Just watched some episodes in the video section and wow, I've really been missing out...

I want this show to continue.

Was the cancellation due to ratings?

Loren described it as creative differences between him and the network, though if the show had gotten extrodinary ratings I'm sure things would have been different.

So the ratings weren't quite their downfall, but I'm sure they didn't help.

Along the way, Loren had described the show's ratings as "good," but what that means among other AS originals, I don't know. The primary reason would be the creative differences you mentioned.

Good.

That garbage is off TV finally.

Family Guy isn't funny.

Tim and Eric isn't funny.

Squidbillies isn't funny.

Shut up.

I remember the first time I watched Lucy's pilot episode.  I had to stop laughing and catch my breath when I was watching the part with Lucy's dog forcing her boyfriend Jeff to kill himself, mostly because I was still recovering from laughing my lungs out from the airplane scene before that.  "Your mother [sukks] *BEEP* in Hell, praise Satan!"  Cue everything on board going berserk.  :smileyvery-happy:

The rest of the series didn't disappoint, either; the scene from the Burning Man episode with Satan just casually trying to rehash the temptation of "Haysoos" with a food court in the desert remains one of my favorite Lucy scenes.  It's a shame that Lucy had to die after 11 episodes, while trash like Tim and Eric, Squidbillies and Seth MacFarlane's banal cookie-cutter cartoons gets thrown in our faces over and over.  I'm really not liking this Eagleheart that they're hyping all to Hell and back, either.  Where has your soul gone, Adult Swim?  :smileysad:

Lucy/ Home Movies were trash, good riddence, make room for shows to come back aka Assy Mcgee/Xavier etc.

........Okay, given that you listed one of your favorite shows in another thread as Minoriteam, I think this about sums up that.

Xavier and Assy were good in their own unique way. Xavier is one of my favorite shows alongside Home Movies and Lucy, and the random stuff is not the meat and potatoes of the show. The underlying philosophy and wordplay was. Same with Assy McGee, the random humor wasn't the important stuff, it was a literal take on an arsehole cop drama. Assy McGee, the character, is a pure visual pun to the fullest degree.

Home Movies and Lucy don't play the random card, and have no reason to. They play it straight and take it slow. It's all about completely character driven dialogue. That being said, if it isn't for you, it isn't for you. I could write 10 pages worth of text describing how Home Movies and Lucy are wonderful programs, but it wouldn't change your mind. Especially if you are watching for randomness and not subtle humor.

While I don't expect you to change many of your opinions, I suggest you try to look at your favorite shows in a different light. Xavier is a completely different and thought-provoking show when you understand the philosophy that went behind every episode. It's way more than just random humor.

I made this account today for the sole purpose of **QWOP** about the low quality of Superjail season 2 versus the brilliance of season 1...

But I'm moved to come to this thread and say how much I loved Lucy. This was a great show with a thousand sunny echoes of Home Movies, and I miss it. It's a real treat if you haven't seen it yet, and AS usually has about half the season up to view on the Fix. I miss H Jon Benjamin's ridiculous Italian accent, and all the other great things the show had. My favorite episode has to be the Vampire Choir Boys.. Shame this show got canned while shows like Squidbillies get a 6th season... Squidbillies has some real aesthetic value, but the writing is usually pretty poor, while Lucy succeeded on almost all fronts.
