What!? Spencers? That's weird. I didn't know they still had Spencers. I guess they don't still sell black light posters, that would be 70s memorailia. Yes, I sang the theme song. That was actually my audition for the role. I had a cold. I can hear it.

As for Bloberta staying in an unhappy marriage... have you ever been married??

lupinfan83 wrote:
Did you sing the opening theme to Jem? Did you know they play it all the time at Spencer's Gifts along with other classic 80's openings? Also, being the voice Bloberta Puppington, why do you feel your character stayed in a relationship that she was obviously so unhappy with?

We scored a film for Morgan J. Freeman, the director, not the actor.

Holy crap, you were the talent side of 'Jem' ? :smileyvery-happy: I so tried to copy that voice growing up and would run home from school to watch that show alongside ThunderCats and She-Ra.

I...I don't think I have a question that hasn't been asked already right now but felt like sharing that bit of nostalga because 'Jem' was a shiney spot in my childhood, resulting in a battered notebook somewhere of song lyrics which morphed into writing which was really for the best. :smileyvery-happy: And I really like Moral Orel and Frankenhole now as a supposed adult so it's like a weird sort of entertainment cycle thing for which I thank you. :smileyhappy:

It did get more and more exciting to read the scripts as the seasons went on. Sometimes it was dificult to imagine this as an animated show. It was especially fun to sit down with everyone and see the script grow and change when we recorded it live. But seeing the finished episodes after the animators gave such great life and depth to the characters was the best part. They were so real that I could watch and not be thinking, "oh, I wish I'd done that line differently" all the time. I just got caught up in the reality of the show and forgot about the real people behind the voices.

Majikthise wrote:
Thanks for agreeing to do this.

Forgive me if I'm repeating or rephrasing a question that somebody else has already asked, but what was it like to get the scripts for Moral Orel and see how the characters grew deeper and more complex as the show progressed?

Oh yes, the live group recording was essential to the whole thing. And very rare in the world of animation.

How locked down were the scripts when you got to that point? Was there still room for tweaking and rewriting?

1. Working with MGMT was great. I'm a fan. My friend Pete Kember (aka Sonic Boom) was producing so I'd met the guys quite a few times. They are totally unpretentious and just really great musicians and arrangers,  and they know exactly what they want.

2. Well, I don't really have too much in common with either of them, superficially, but I've spent a lot more time being Bloberta, so I feel more at one with her. I'm still getting to know Elizabeth.

3. Ummmm... I'm drawing a blank. That's what happens when I get a huge question like that.

Dark_Lord_Khrima wrote:

1. What was it like working with MGMT? Any other artists you'd like to work with in the future?
2. Who do you relate to more, Bloberta Puppington or Elizabeth Frankenstein?
3. If you could voice any character on any show for a few episodes, which one would you choose?

The re-writes were finished by the time we all sat down to record, but there was usually some tweaking or ad-libbing done during the read-through rehearsal and/or the recording.

Hmmm.... I can't really remember... I think he wasn't sure, but thought it might be funny if it was a woman's voice and I'm usually the only woman in the room, so I leapt at it.

I'm not good at describing what kind of music I play but we have music up on our website (www.deanandbritta.com) or maybe we don't have music up there... it might just be on myspace and our facebook bandpage (www.facebook.com/deanandbritta)
I sing and play bass, primarily, although I do also play keys and guitar. And drums, poorly.

Good morning, Ms. Phillips.

Did you come up with the lyrics "Jem is truly outrageous"? And do you think that Jem is truly outrageous? Truly, truly, truly outrageous?

If Jem had Bloberta for a mom, what would that be like?

Thanks. :smileyhappy:
