Game note: please post suggested next posts for this thread in the floated "exquisite corpse" game thread, I will then cut and paste them into this one (that will keep this one from getting cluttered up with conversation, questions, post suggestions, etc)

Reading the topics on this board I can't help but notice that there are a lot of comedy vs. anime discussion, as well as anime fans questioning the existence of many comedy shows and comedy fans questioning the existence of many anime shows. I myself can't say I really enjoy what anime I've seen, nor can I say every comedy show on Adult Swim is something I personally dig. I think that to say all anime needs to disappear from Adult Swim or that all shows I don't like needs to disappear would be a stupid thing to say.
I think that these arguments are unfortunate, because of the fact that these very different shows are being put next to each other only because they are intended for an adult audience. They aren't intended for an adult audience of comedy fans, or an adult audience of anime fans, it's just the only possible place where these shows can be put on what is primarily a kid's network. To put them together for comparison’s sake might seem to make sense since these shows do air right after one another, but one has to remember that these are very very different types of shows for people with very different types of tastes.
One also has to realize that the fact that shows that a lot of people (or at least the people I talk to) think s*ck like "Ripping Friends" and "Baby Blues" and "Oblongs" is part of what makes Adult Swim great; the fact that they are willing to give a failed show another chance. I personally don't like Baby Blues or Oblongs, but I think it's excellent that Cartoon Network is willing to take a risk that a normal network wouldn't. Maybe you get more bad than you get good, but when you get something like more episodes of Home Movies as a result, then I say CN should keep it up.

Yeah man. I like some comedy, and I like some anime. And whatever [as] does with their schedule doesn't really concern me that much.

The comedy shows aren't doing so well though. Certainly not on Saturday night.
I for one would watch Futurama, Family Guy, several WS comedies, Venture Bros and Boondocks when it was broadcast along side the anime. Since weekdays went all comedy I might have tuned in for Home Movies but the rest I feel no desire to watch. I could be watching better things on DVD or do other things like go out with friends, see a movie, play a video game, work on video projects and other hobbies, etc. On weekends I throw a tape in for Moribito because it's a freak'n 5:30AM and watch it later (most people I know don't even have a VCR anymore but DVR can work even better if you have it). I might watch a premiere on Sunday but I could just as easily do so on AS Video any other day of the week when I have some spare time. And I really only watch Venture Bros. and Robot Chicken premieres though I'll start watching Superjail and eventually Drinky Crow on AS Video as well. In other words, most of their comedy doesn't interest me. There were better cartoons on Saturday mornings in the 90s.
So without anime to draw me back as a regular Adult Swim is pretty much dead to me and several other anime viewers that also enjoyed the comedy just as much or more than any dedicated comedy viewers.
Dedicated comedy viewers... that's a laugh. You all whine about how much you hate anime and want an all comedy schedule just so you can watch it on occasion when you have nothing else better to do.
