Yeah, the show seems funnier the second time I watch it.  There are a lot more subtle jokes that go unnoticed the first time.  I can't think of any examples right now.

I think that started when whole seasons of television programs were put on DVDs.  Since you can pause the program,

you can look for the little things, like the writing on the posters on the classroom walls, the titles of the books Ms.

Censoritall wanted to burn, and the print on every other object (my favorite would have to be the brand of TV dinners

Rev. Putty was eating: Lonely Man TV dinners.  That sh*t was hilarious!).

It's sad that you think that Dino should not run Orel because of offending people like you. Face it, there are people out there that do not think the same as you do. You need to learn to be more tolerant of others viewpoints, and frankly, not be an **bleep** just because you think it's your God-given right to do so.

I have no control over the show, so it will run regardless of what I think of it. The show doesn't offend me, I just hate the characters, the plot and whole story. I'm not taking any advice, least of all from you. You can take any condescending remarks you made and go fishing. Once you're tolerant to what I have to say, then we'll talk.

"It's interesting to read you talking about these guys like you're watching them as opposed to writing them. It's not new to hear writers say that the characters discover themselves and write themselves, but it is rare -for me anyway- to see it in...action..I guess.

Considering what you said about the focus shifting to other characters in future eps, it sort of raises my excitement level for the coming seasons. The thought that you may not know exactly everything about these folks yet either really makes me curious about where the show is headed. And the dichotomy of the characters we do know is already pretty addictive. Should be good stuff coming."

Yeah, I like to be surprised as much as anyone. I never know where a show will end up when I start writing it. I've been very fascinated by these characters this season. It's a lot of fun for me.

Hey, thanks to everyone for taking part. I encourage any discussion to continue, but I can't really afford to keep posting here. Lots of work to do. It was fun, though.

Thanks a lot. You've given a lot of people a lot of reasons to tune in for season two to see how you put your theories into practice. I, for one, can't wait to see what comes next.

Hrmm interesting answer.

Ok here's a better question, though it doesn't really protain to the show much.

I find the music to be quite brilliant and really helps the satire come to light. Now I know you're no music composer (at least as far as I know) but what advice could you give to someone that is planning on attemping to enter in the TV/video game soundtrack composing field?
Also, this may be asking to much on my part, but do you think you could perhaps ask one of the prefessional composers you've worked with to listen some pieces I've composed  for amature made games (link). Forgive my boldness, but I'd really appericate some professional feedback since I plan to make a career from it.

I've got a few questions that are all over the place.  I think I'm writing them more so I just have my thoughts on the show organized, but if you answered them that'd be pretty cool too.

  1. Obviously the good folks of Moralton are more into repression and maintenance of the status quo than they are into religion as religion.  But they're forced to at least go through the motions of piety to appear the good citizen to others.  So how would the general citizenry react to another reverend using the Bible in an intellectually consistent way?  Or how would they handle someone pointing out glaring inconsistencies in the Good Book?  I'm not really that interested in whether or not you're planning on doing an episode on those things. . . just curious how you think they'd react (since Orel is sort of doing something like that, taking the ridiculous BS the grown-ups are giving him and taking it to its logical absurd conclusion).
  2. I thought it was awesome you mentioned Home Movies as one of your favorite [AS] programs.  I've been infatuated with the show ever since I watched my first episode of it.  As a writer, how do you respond to the way Home Movies is produced?  I mean, the writing on the show is pretty spartan. . . plotlines and dialogues are all almost entirely organic.  Does that sort of production method oppose your sensibilities as a writer, or does a more dialogue (vs. script) driven show appeal to you?
  3. I loved how you were talking about how "real" various cartoons were (you started with the early Simpsons I think).  To me, that's why I was (and still am) so obsessed with Home Movies.  Practically every character, regardless of how minor, was developed.  Not in the cheesy archetypical way where characters have to "grow" or learn a life lesson at the end of the episode or season, but more that you indentified in some way with every character's insecurities, neuroses, thoughts, fears, alcohol problems, etc.  Obviously you're trying to make the characters in Moral Orel more rounded like that, but do you think the satiric setting (since Moralton is pretty much a lampooning of middle America as a whole) sort of restricts you from building completely real characters in a way that a show like Home Movies can because of a less rigorously constructed setting?

1. I'm glad Moral has been in the ratings toilet since it started.

2. Can't wait until it get justifiably canned, and the 'creator' needs to find another outlet for his much needed therepy for his mental defectiveness and transparently pathetic psycological issues.

Like what?  Posting in a Q&A thread on an internet message board for cartoons?  That kind of therapy?

cuz like - if this post is any indication, that doesn't seem to work very well at all.

Dino, I know you're probably not going to read this, but I figured I'd just dump my thoughts into the ether anyway.

My opinion about the show changed completely after seeing the Christmas special.  It was incredible.

Seeing all the other episodes, my opinion was that the show was pretty funny, but ultimately just a lampooning of hypocritical middle American ignorance and values, with maybe a few hints of character depth bubbling under the service.  A good show, but nothing particularly gripping or different from what's out there.

But the Christmas special. . . wow.  The whole episode was just so honest and tender and sweet and sad.  Especially the last scene, with Orel just staring out at God expectantly with complete and total faith and optimism, despite everything.  It was the first episode (outside of a few scenes where Orel interacts with Stephanie) where I felt like the characters were people with real emotions and feelings first and archetypes in a satirical model second.  Usually it felt like the opposite.

If what you've got planned in the second season is like the Christmas special, I won't give two shits even if they aren't "funny."  "Funny" isn't as interesting or compelling as honest and real.  It would be incredible television, easily better than anything else on the [AS} block right now.

A lot of people prefer the "funny", because it's not fun to watch something depressing.

I like the show a lot, even though I am religious. My best friend doesn't like it because he thinks it just makes fun of religion. I don't know why he doesn't get the egocentric jokes about how Americans are and all - he's a Bush and government hater. I told him that Southpark is almost the same way with religion, but his argument is that Southpark doesn't focus on it. I love how the show makes jokes about Catholics - it just seems to me that Catholics are the most immoral among saved people because their rules are more strict and yet they act worse than most other saved people.

Any idea on when Vol. 2 is going to be coming out? I can't wait ^_^ I think that you're doing a great job with the show and keep up the good work.

You shut up, you little pot-licker. I'll put you in a microwave!
