There's a lovely thing called a "volume button" on your remote that was capable of correcting that.

after the show was added back to the schedule, [as] showed the series for one complete run through and then the rights for the show expired. you can watch the complete series on netlfix instant queue if you have it.

The volume on the show was so low I could literally turn it up -all- the way and still not hear it very well.

And then the commercials would come on at full volume.
