Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit

In a recent bump, [as] showed the short list of available anime that could be shown to fill the extra hour available next saturday night when the clocks will be set back.

Missing from that list was Moribito. This means [as] has lost the rights. So that's it, happy trails, see you space cowboy, etc...

Moribito certainly deserved far better than it ever received on this block. At least many of us were able to be introduced to it, though, and I'm very happy to have the DVDs sitting across the room on my shelf as a result.

My question has always been when will [as] pick up it's next Bebop/Eva/Trigun/Champloo? They haven't seem to have picked up any shows as good as those.

Moribito. I might give you another try one day. Maybe the upcomong Blu-Rays. But dangit, Adult Swim. ADULT! And would it kill you to strip the shows Mon-Thur instead of airing them 2:30am on a Saturday? You know, so I can watch them when not half asleep?

At least I got the complete DVD collection.  Yeah, [as] gave it no respect.  Did it even get an entire second run?

No, it never got a full second run. But then again, the ratings it pulled in weren't enough to merit it having one. Not to mention that the contract dispute between [as] and whatever company had the rights to it pretty much killed any hope of a second run.

But what kind of ratings does [as] expect?  Airing anything during Saturday late-nights causes horrible ratings.

Right, but I think they expect something better than the 120k avg that Moribito pulled in.

We don't really know what it wound up pulling, but we do know that it was sort of doomed from the start, even ignoring [as]'s scheduling actions. Geneon's closure left the license in limbo for several months until Media Blasters rescued it, and after that, material delays meant another significant stretch of time until they could get the remaining episodes to [as]. Even a show with massive audience potential is going to wind up DOA if it premieres for ten episodes, repeats those same ten episodes, then doesn't air another new episode for almost a year. And like I said, that's not even getting into the timeslot screw-job [as] put on.

Point is, the show is dead and gone, [as] effed it over, and sooner or later this folder will be gone as well.

Just like the Code Geass, Death Note, and Blood+ folders are gone?

Like I said, sooner or later. The folders will probably be axed when/if [as] gets a new series.

Humbug has specifically stated that he's going to keep the expired series' folders up indefinitely unless he's explicitly ordered to remove them. And even if that day comes, he's more than willing to float any and all wikis for them in GAD, along with any other expired [as] properties.

i'm not sure there are any shows out there that are as good as those. i've looked around and purchased some stuff on dvd but nothing has come close so far...
