Moribito was a good show, although it probably wasn't [as] material.

It actually required serious thought from the viewer. Hack 'n slash fans were severely disappointed.

Moribito was a good show. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a disgrace to all mankind.

It was not a show for [as] though. Somthing as beautifully animated and fantasy driven is not the show for those who want **NaClO** and swords.

Everything else made it a disgrace.  I have nothing to do with it outside of pointing it out.

Horrendous pacing, a dull plot, uninteresting characters.

At least two of those three, and pretty much all of them, are just your opinions. I could certainly go toe-to-toe with you on the first one, as Moribito had some of the best-executed narrative pacing and structure I've seen in any anime series. It felt every bit like the structure of a novel, which only makes sense given the source material.

Except many people did, and the "slow" comment is just your own personal opinion, which doesn't necessarily apply to anyone else. I feel like I have to reinforce that to you at least once a week.

Have we forgotten the miserable ratings?

Look at the gambling episode. It is the prime example of Moribito's slow-as-mollasses pacing.

I've gone over the ratings discussion with you so many times that it's not worth wasting my virtual breath. Could you please at least do people the courtesy of acknowledging their valid points when they're presented to you? You'd frustrate far fewer people than you do right now if you just took that simple step.

And if you can't see how brilliantly that episode was pulled off, you really don't have any judgment when it comes to storytelling. That was a masterpiece of tension-building and character development, all within the context of a few spinning coins.

Are you kidding?  It was like the World Series of Dice skit from Chappele's Show, except without the funny robbery scene at the end.

Do yourself a favor and go take an English/writing course taught by someone competent. Then come back. I'll be waiting.

I want to watch the show you were watching. The one that wasn't boring as all hell with the slow paced gambling and the walking and the Enemy Crabs.

I'm kind of wondering which show you watched, because you apparently wouldn't know the definition of the word "subtlety" even if someone wrote it on a brick and hurled it at you. I don't pretend to be an English major (and in fact have few regards for such), but I could write up one hell of an analysis about why that episode was pulled off so well and what it meant for Chagum's character development. More than anything else, I think it's a damn shame that you (and certain other people I can think of) simply couldn't see it. Storytelling is a craft older than human civilization itself, and Moribito executes it as well as any anime series I've ever come across. You have every right to not personally enjoy a particular work, but when you won't even recognize quality for quality's sake, it's a sad statement.

There's a huge difference between subtlety and dragging, one that Moribito fails to see time and time again. The gambling episode was the final straw on this although Giant Enemy Crabs weren't a hallmark of well paced tense storytelling either. It was akin to being in a waiting room.
Adult Swim needs, NEEDS to see the difference and stop getting shows like the above.

I wonder if there's any point in trying to show you otherwise when you can't even see the subtleties I'm talking about. The gambling episode was integral to Chagum's character growth, giving him his first real chance to stand on his own and showing just how far he'd come from the sheltered prince he once was. It didn't detract from the show's progression, but instead contributed to it greatly. As for the series as a whole, considering there was a great deal going on in just about every episode, and that every episode contributed in a recognizable way to the resolution of the plot, I'm really curious as to how anyone who knows their way around storytelling can find fault with it.

And, um, I kind of fail to see how the nature of the series' final adversary has anything at all to do with its pacing.

If you don't care about the character before or after (and Chagum is easily up there with Wesley Crusher and Lana Lane in that forced character type), then the half hour is wasted.  Slowing the pace to a downright crawl only prolongs the pain.

...comparing Chagum to Wesley Crusher kind of invalidates your authority to speak about anything relating to characterization. :smileyvery-happy:

And yet again, let me note, your personal care or lack thereof does not necessarily extend to anyone else watching the series.

They're both horribly written, annoying but shilled by the story, so the only one invalidated here is you.  :smileyindifferent:

And it's not like those DVD's are selling any better, are they?:smileyvery-happy:

See, you're giving us all opinion. Subjective statements is all you can really provide. And then you bring in the old ratings chestnut. If we went by ratings, American Idol is the best quality show on television. Popularity =/= good.

Of course, all I, or anyone, can provide is opinion. So why trumpet the same horn again and again?

Monster, a show you think would have done well on [as], only had the first part of it's DVD set released, and then pulled by Viz due to lack of sales. You're point?

It's a show I thought was better than Moribito.

Their collective failures show the failure of slow moving material on TV and on DVD.  So if anything, it supports my central argument.
