We're first introduced to this whimpering idiot in the first episode, and then it hits you when the Queen is introducing him. Bad enough next to nothing has happened in the first episode other than Balsa going "Lol middle age" but introducing a plot element that's considered lame even when attached to the strongest of leads? It was terrible.
The next episode has the character's importance presented- Through a 5 minute speech about mystical bru-ha-ha that no one cares about. Really lame and not endearing.
The kid doesn't pull his weight, an attempts like the godawful gambling episode to try and establish his plot importance just bore. Really, why would you invest time in such dull characters?
If you expect an entire plot to be handed to you in a shows first episode, you must hate all television. But again, you present opinion as fact. From my own opinion, the first episode sets the tone for the show rather well. Most of our main characters are introduced, the water spirit is seen planting the egg, the reason Chagum will be on the run is established, the reason for Balsa's commitment to his protection is hinted at, etc. It did in one episode what Kekkaishi hasn't done yet in 20.
Mystical bru-ha-ha no one cares about? It's the premise of the show. Pretty sure plenty of people care.
The gambling episode was not there to show plot importance. That is presented in the first episode, and later on when the old women reveals what the egg is all about. The gambling episode was about character development, to show that Chagum is more then just some wimpy kid, he's also got some intelligence behind him.
In the end, this is all just a big waste of time, neither of us is going to convince the other of anything
