Their player is terrible. If the membership player is anything like the non-member player, I ain't paying to use that thing. If it were FUNi streaming it, I'd probably end up watching it legally. :/

The member player is the exact same as the nonmember player, only there are no commercials and it takes forever to buffer the video.  And if the video doesn't buffer, the video will freeze, you need to resent, and it may or may not decide to stick you back at the same point in time that you started on.

Also, it happens to do this about 2 times per episode.  At least.

Last time I tried using it was on Steins;Gate. It had the habit of forgetting how to load the next part of the episode after any commercial break. Buffer was pretty bad as far as I recall, too. And the video quality was absolutely terrible, one way or another. So, I'd be paying for the same thing without the commercial part? For 1 show? And a show that looks promising, but I don't definitively know whether or not I'll like?

I haven't had many problems with Crunchyroll's player, even before getting the membership. I think the last issue I had was that I was watching Kore wa Zombie desu ka? ep. 11 and it stopped loading two-thirds in and I had to reload the page. I think it usually depends on the internet connection. At least it's better than TAN's crappy player, which loads the video every **noel** second.

I'm a free user (I wish I had the membership, I have the money, just no way of actually paying for something online.), and I rarely have problems with their player. The only problem I ever encounter these days, the commercials don't appear ever (This has been happening the last few days for me, but then again, I'm having the same problem on FUNimation's player on some anime.), so it's like I'm watching it in SD as an Anime Member.

Also, are you saying the FUNi player is better? There were probably literally OVER 9,000 complaints about FUNimation's old video player. All I saw from it was absolute hate, more hate than I see for hated anime. I think I see complaints about their new player still.

Try NicoNico when it came to A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives. For me, after like episode 4, every single week it was the same thing, it would take so long to buffer. It would take me an hour to two hours (It literally did take two one time.) to watch just one episode, and every episode was just like 24 minutes each. Luckily that's the only anime that ever would load that slow on NicoNico. Everything else, it's a breeze.

Funi's old player was even worse than Crunchy's.

I prefer simulcasts on Hulu or Nico Nico.  I like Hulu since they have 480p for free and Hulu is a good player, and NicoNico is great since they have no adds.  Nico does take forever to load, but I generally let it load while doing something else and then it was good to go.

I don't know about the connection thing. When I attempted Steins;Gate, it was on a public network. The connection itself was designed to have a very high bandwith, and there were only a couple other laptops in the place.

TAN's player... you've got a point. Getting a video to play on that is an accomplishment.

I hated FUNi's start-up player. They had most the issues worked out by the time Tatami Galaxy aired. I was able to watch the whole show on it without feeling cheated. Plus, a lot of their shows shift over to Hulu after a week or so, and Hulu has a reasonably good player.

Doesn't take forever to load for me. Let it sit there for 3 minutes, then I start watching, and it doesn't stop. Only show that took forever to load for me, A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives. That was gawdawful, taking an hour to two hours to watch a single show.

On a side-note, how do the streams on NicoNico earn money without the ads anyway? A certain amount of money per view?

Don't quote me on this, but I think they are actually owned by one of the Japanese production companies.  I really have no idea; go ask the people on Fandom Post or Answerman or something.

I honestly don't think they can find anybody that would give them ads to play to be honest. Niconico.com has a laughable Alexa Site Ranking at 130k. Compare that to Crunchyroll.com with 6k or Funimation.com with 30k (Only available in NA so quite low on world ranking). Niconico needs to get the word out or they will die. Notice how they haven't even announced any new streams for this upcoming season?
