Beelzebub

The first scene.......

The first scene alone has officially placed this as one of the absolute worst shounen I've ever seen.

This is horrendous. After the OP finished, I threw up a little in my mouth. :smileyindifferent:

I think Miyuki Sawashiro wins best seiyuu for this.

I was afraid of that. The manga isn't anything special to begin with, so I was keeping my expectations low anyway.

It was just stupid joke delivered through stilted dialogue that flowed as well as Bleach, followed by an endless string of jokes about how the baby has electric tantrums.

Over and over and over.

I mean, Bleach is a pretty awful shounen, but this was like if you gave Bleach a severe concussion and told to tell you a bunch of bad jokes.

This is actually one of the anime ive been looking forward to for a long time.

Classic Shounen style.

How do you beat the stronger guy?

No powerlevels or secret attacks... you punch him harder.

Youre just too cynical to appreciate such great shows as this!

The baby uses electricity. He's already used it a couple times to win fights.

That's not "Punching the other harder". That's cheating.

I thought it was interesting, and Miyuki Sawashiro did a great job as baby Beelzebub

I mean, it's not Idea Factory bad. But as far as mainstream shounen go, this was virtually unwatchable for me.

I think the humor is what bugs me. Like, it's supposed to be a surrealist comedy, but gives the vibe that the creators just weren't sure what they were doing. Like they were uncomfortable being weird.

From the pics I've seen on line it reminds me of the beginning of Reborn and how campy it was.

I'm going to check it out in a minute...

Little of both...

I honestly liked the first eppie.

It wasnt trying too hard, the production values were high, and the characters were likable enough for me.

I don't know how you can live with calling this "decent".

Every minute and a half, there's yet anoher "Oh no, the baby is crying and now we're being shocked" joke. EVERY minue and a half. Yes, we get it. The baby cries, it shoot electricity - you DON'T have to **pickle** tell us a hundred times a **pickle** episode. Once or twice in the first couple episodes is enough. It wasn't funny the first time, for fuuuuuudge's sake. I have about 4 minutes left in the second episode, if there's another **pickle** crying gag, I'm out. This is so un-**pickle**-believably tedious.

Dropped. It went 3 minutes. I was so **pickle** proud, that must have been a record.

But I knew it was coming. It was so obvious that they'd do it.

Well its setting up the series...

I dont expect shonen to be amazing from the first episode.

You know what they say... patience is a virtue~

This is also coming directly after my Creative Nonfiction class.

"When writing dialogue, you don't need to force traits on the reader. If a character swears often, you only need to have them cuss once or twice and the audience will get it. If the character has a fear, you only need to present the fear once or twice and the audience gets it."

**pickle** baby wouldn't shut the everloving fuuuuuudge up. There was such an unfathomable amount of time wasted on the crying gags. They're predictable, they're boring, they're not funny. Every scene ends with one, and most scenes are rather short. All that time spent dicking around with he kid could have been easily spent on something worthwhile. How about establishing a character - give them a personality, even if it's vague thus far. Or, how about a punchline? Crying and zapping people is not an amusing punchline - certainly not when you do it a million time per episode. The transport guy is an example of a quirk that could be utilized in some interesting fashion. Has it? No, because we're **pickle** around with an annoying baby.

I like Miyuki Sawashiro's performance as Beelzebub (mostly cause it reminds me of her voice for Maria from SZS) and Hilda's pretty hot. Aside from that, the electric crying does get pretty old fast (doesn't make much sense either, considering I'd think that the spawn of Satan would be surrounded by fire everytime it cried rather than electricity) and I could see it getting stale if they ever introduce a main villain to the series considering that the meat of the show is the MC raising the Demon King's baby and not the fighting. Still, it's pretty entertaining for shounen affair, and I can actually see this potentially getting interesting.

How many shonen anime dont overely express characteristics subtly?

(One Piece aside...)

Youre acting like this show was made for older people.

Its a shonen... essentially made for kids...

Its your own dammn fault for expecting too much.

As always Nara-chin... youre far too pretentious~ :3
