Skip

Rin Daughters of Mnemosyne

There were ideas in this one that could have been great. They just weren't. The parts that were promising were overshadowed by the parts that preferred some very, unusual sexual-- I don't even have the words. I wish I had skipped this one. It weakened my faith in the goodness of humanity. Still, I found good parts in it. It is a shame that those parts were not the pillars of this one.

Maybe Watch

Basilisk

I started watching it on Friday and am about to finish it in a few minutes. The ending is great. Couldn't come soon enough. I am unhappy that I didn't like this one better. I was happy that the characters (barely any of which I cared about and mostly disliked) were fighting to the death. To its credit, the first episode and the last few episodes were the best. It goes from good to disappointing to good. I did not like the superflat personalities of most of the characters. The anime artists did a good job of rendering unappealing characters. Don't get me wrong, it was the original manga artist that picked the original character designs I didn't like.

This is another one I should have liked more, but didn't.

Milquetoast Spoiler (somewhat weak as a spoiler) highlight to show.

I don't know why the two people that were supposed to be in charge didn't say, 'Go %$#@! yourself, we have decided to end the hostilities without the truce. Flip a coin buttlickers.' Maybe I just don't understand the culture, something. If they could have chosen some other reason driving the conflict, I maybe would have liked it better. I liked how the last person alive ended things; however, the real beneficiary of the win didn't seem to deserve it. It only seemed like one had any reason to really hate the other side on account of the parent being killed. Also, an innocent musician was killed which could have been of more use in the story somewhere later-- but they didn't do anything particularly interesting with it (they did use it again, but meh).

Need help in choosing my next anime on Netflix. These are the ten choices I've narrowed down based on my interest. Which one (or two or three) do you guys think is best?

- Darker Than Black

- Monster (is it worth going through all 70+ eps?)

- FMA Brotherhood

- High School of the Dead

- Nabari no Ou

- Kenichi

- Samurai 7

- Gurren Lagann

- Elfen Lied

- Jyu-Oh-Sei

In the past I've liked original FMA, Yu Yu Hakasho (wish I could rewatch on Netflix!), Eden of the East (highly reccommend). Want something violent (MA), but no revolting.

I have seen all of these (well, only part of Monster, as I haven't gotten around to finish it yet)  Samurai 7, and depending on who you talk to, Elfen Lied are the weakest of the bunch, so maybe save them for last.  I personally enjoyed EL, but a lot of people hate it.

I'm not experienced. Hell, I don't even know what I am talking about. It's a good list, lots of good stuff on there. The one I liked the least was Gurren Lagann and it was decent.

- Elfen Lied -- Awesome. Period. Praying for a second season that probably won't happen. Top three. Acceptable ending.

- Jyu-Oh-Sei -- Solid ending, one of my favorites. Top five.

- Samurai 7 -- I liked this one a lot. Specific and satisfying ending.

- FMA Brotherhood -- One of the first anime's I watched. Ending was a little weird, but satisfying. Great story. Not necessarily violent. Better than FMA.

- High School of the Dead -- It was enough of it's own thing to be noteworthy, few surprises, very violent, I liked it, tons of fanservice though.

- Kenichi -- Entertaining. Not great, not terrible. Needs another season that will probably never happen.

- Darker Than Black -- Not bad, I liked it. Needed another season that will probably never happen.

- Gurren Lagann -- I watched the whole thing. It had an interesting and specific end. So many unnecessary episodes.

- Monster (is it worth going through all 70+ eps?) -- Watched one episode on my own time, subbed so I skipped it. Looked promising though.

- Nabari no Ou -- Haven't seen it.

Watch

Trinity Blood

It was on the bubble for maybe watch though. Too many characters were acting like complete weenies. I don't even know how to describe it. There is a batch of vampires of which one is a super vampire in an elite group of ?warriors? for a faction called the Vatican which protects humans. Then there is the Empire which is mostly regular vampires. And then a third terrorist group. There is a larger story that comes into focus later. This is another one with an initial episode that hooked me a middle that was meh and the last few hours were pretty good, good enough to bounce them up to Watch.

Darker then Black does have another season, though its not really that good and most fans don't even acknowledge its existence. I am probably gonna be cursed for 10 years by some people reading this post.

Hey, you can only feel what you do. When you start saying stuff that you don't  believe in, then you are lying to me and that is terrible. So, go ahead and have an unpopular opinion. I think if everyone said more of what they think maybe we wouldn't have such a high ratio of people that don't think talking. It is the smart people that stay quiet while the idiots are yelling. I'm not certain whether I am an idiot or not yet.

I've been watching High School of the Dead recently, its definitely a show with solid action, hot fan service and it looks like it has a cool story too. I haven't finished watching it yet though.

My favorites are Jyu-oh-Sei, HOTD, Excel Saga, Kenichi, and all of the Slayers titles.  I think Slayers has become my second-favorite franchize behind Dragon Ball.

Watch

Blue Gender

Maybe Watch

Blue Gender: Warrior

The 26 episode Blue Gender series almost made definitely watch. It is a whole story that finishes. It has a few good plot twists. The animation seems dated, but you can tell someone that is skilled did it. It is an apocalyptic, alien/mutant, recapture home type of story. I liked it a lot. If it picques your interest, watch it.

The ~1.5 hour movie on the other hand is a collection of cut scenes from the series. It tells a similar abridged story as the series. One of the best plot arcs is completely removed. Ten minutes of fighting happens for seemingly no reason due to a missing explanation. Maybe watch this one if you are really interested in seeing how the general story pans out and you are pressed for time. It could be satisfying, but it is, without a doubt, vastly inferior to the series.

Hmm, never heard of it. I definitely want to watch a little more anime today, I was thinking of jumping into some Gintama of which I haven't watched an episode in months. I actually just watched the first episode of Stand Alone Complex. I don't know if you have seen the movie or the series yet but it's pretty awesome. Blue gender sounds good though, I'll have to check out the first episode to see what it's all about.

Maybe Watch

Tokyo Majin

Tokyo gets the most destroyed in this one so far. It is another apocalypse type that snowballs from the beginning. I've started googling a little about the ones I like-- this one also has a game based origin like Devil May Cry. (It was very similar to Devil May Cry in it's mediocre and meandering plot development.) So, it is a bunch of school kids fighting bad guys, fate of the world rests... The ideas in it were good, the art was better than average, most people will like the fight scenes. and most importantly the character development was very robust. The character development was fantastic, it is a shame that the plot lines weren't better. The ending was not satisfying. They should have wrapped things up better.

Ah My Goddess (AMG) - Season 2 Only on Netflix, waiting for Season 1

Edit: Season 1 was added, says my RSS feed of new Netflix streaming titles...

Maybe Watch

Sekirei

Who knew you could make clothes out of tissue paper and gunpowder? It seems like their clothes blow off in an explosive manner every time they sneeze or a butterfly farts. If you want fan service-- this is your series. It is not completely without merit, but meh. If you are in the mood for naked chicks fighting then by all means enjoy yourself to the Nth degree. Otherwise, there is better stuff. I generally dislike it when the motivating force for the story is irrational and mysteriously pointless. It wasn't horrible, I could see why some people really liked it. The nakedness was over the top, but it wasn't 'forced'. It did seem to blend into what was happening-- I guess, for lack of better words.

I've seen all of FMA:B and Elfen Lied, some of Monster and Gurren (watched them on SyFy, but I'd forget they were on a lot).  I cared very little for Elfen Lied, but I can no longer remember why.  Samurai 7's been on my Instant Queue for as long as I've had my streaming account.

Other things on my Instant Queue:  Speed Grapher, Desert Punk, D. Grey Man (started watching, only on episode 30 or so), Casshern Sins (don't have cable, so I'm just watching it as if I was watching it on [as]), Queen's Blade, High School of the Dead...that's all I can remember offhand.  Darker than Black is good though, just throwing that out there.

Watch

Baka and Test

Maybe Watch

School Rumble: Extra Class

Baka and Test was a kind of different school type of anime. The first episode was less than good. The third episode was awesome. The ending is terrible. It is short. It was funny. I looked forward to people having 0 points by the end just to see where Iron Man would pop up from. I don't like the ridiculous embarassment thing, it pisses me off truthfully. ####ty writing. But, at least in this one there is gratifyingly equal nosebleeding. The copius, impossible streams of nose blood seems to make it okay.

School Rumble: Extra Class was more of the same if you watched the regular season episodes. I wouldn't watch it if you haven't seen the previous episodes or didn't like the previous episodes. But, I'm curious as to what becomes of Harima. I didn't find out in these two episodes, but meh.

I'm working late from home, so I get to watch it on a regular size TV instead of my phone (since my Linux workstation won't play Netflix). I will keep in mind that AMG is on Hulu.

Yeah, there is so much out there. At $8 a month for Netflix, I may not have everything-- but I am never wanting for something. I will check out the hulu episodes. I already have the app on my phone.

I've been toying around with the idea of paying for Hulu and dropping my cable (~$100 per month cable/phone/internet) also bouncing around my melon is paying for a Funimation subscription.

Watch
Initial D

So, I got through 65/67 episodes and a movie. Just the animated and dubbed stuff. Season 1 through 2 I liked better. The two episodes labeled "Extra Stage" were okay. Season 3 (the movie) was the last one I liked. Season 4 got a little boring. This was the first anime where the chicks acted like I would think they do in real life. And the awkwardness was believable. The later seasons focused on the driving more and more and that got boring for me. By the time it ended (supposedly there is another manga to get animated, but anyone's guess whether it will happen as far as I know) I was hoping an avalanch crushed Project.D. For me it started off great and petered off for the worse until the end. I like underdog triumphs and coming of age stuff in general, but it gets old if you keep pushing it. I skipped the extra racing episodes called "Battle Stage".

Having owned a 1.6 liter toyota motor-- the things they got wrong were barely noticeable. You're a nit picky weenie if you let it spoil the good parts. I barely learned anything of worth compared to the guy on the second page on this thread. It also did not make me want to drive crazy. I'm piloting a minivan for God's sake. Mind you it's a sporty Mazda 5, but still. Also, Bunta, are his eyes ever open? Everytime when I started looking-- eyes shut, running his yap, smoking a cigarette... I am tempted to go back and see if he is reading that stupid newspaper with his eyes shut.

This is where I watched the "Extra Stage" episodes
