In this show with an English title thought up by Bill & Ted, a spirited high school girl named Marika (Mikako Komatsu) who keeps herself busy with the space yacht club and her part-time job at a high-class retro café alongside her friend Mami ( Chiaki Omigawa ). One day, two men suddenly appear and claim to be subordinates of her dead father and reveal to her that her mother (Yuko Kaida) was once a well known pirate. They demand that she assume command of the space pirate ship Benten Maru. A privateer ship's compact was made during a war of independence a century ago, and according to that compact, the ship must be inherited by the captain's next direct descendant. Marika finds herself embarking on a new life as a space pirate alongside transfer student Chiaki Kurihara (Kana Hanazawa).
I definitely say that this show is starting off on the right foot, creating a solid narrative and it's shaping up to be an entertaining show. Also, the OP is pretty amazing with Momoiro Clover Z teaming up with former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman to create a unique song. The show is available on Crunchyroll for those who want to be legal pirates and Sentai Filmworks has picked the show up, so if you haven't seen it yet, give this show a watch.

Well, the first ep was... watchable. They did a good job on the various futuristic gizmos and whatnot. It does have some potential, though I'm not expecting much.

Short skirts seem somewhat inappropriate attire for a zero-G environment. Must use a lot of starch.
Meh show is meh. "I barely know what electronic warfare is, but my daddy was a space pirate so surely I can do it!" Because high-level computer knowledge is clearly an inherited trait.

They are space skirts. It's just like their space hair-spray.
My biggest gripe is that they have a fully pressurized hangar for that big ship. Why? That's possibly the worst way to preserve a space ship.

What does being an all-girl school have to do with it? That doesn't mean that they're all ok just randomly flashing their panties at each other; although I am sure a lot of people have that fantasy of all-girls schools. And there was a male teacher right there. But they weren't even at the school; they were on a space station.
There isn't any reason for it, or course. They're schoolgirls therefore they wear schoolgirl uniforms. Welcome to anime. It was merely the stupid cherry on top of a stupid sundae. Any analysis beyond "schoolgirls who are also space pirates" is just mindless banter.
First post in three months and already arguing about something.

Miniskirt argument aside, I don't think this is a valid point.
She never mentioned her father and even admitted to knowing nothing about computer warfare, she wanted to try it because they were being attacked. Obviously, she can't learn unless she tries, the whole point of Marika's character is that she's adventureous and willing to try new things - this is why Chiaki was constantly warning her that if they turned on the computers they were likely to lose. But still, Marika insisted that they should do what they could.
Now...when they did turn on the computers neither of them actually did anything. An automated system kicked in and did everything for them, she sat there cheering at the screen. So, no, high-level computer knowledge is not an inherited trait - her willingness to try led them to discover that the ship actually has a fairly complicated automated defense system, most likely because as we've already heard it's one of the seven original pirate ships.
Whether or not this scene was worthwhile is up for debate, but your description of it was completely off.

Ep 5 was pretty cool.
Although not every little detail is explained, I appreciated the focus on strategy and just the way the "battle" unfolded.
Marika seems pretty confident, should be cool to see what her crew will be like in the next episode. And finally, pirate hat!

And thus the Lightning 11 went the same way as the Lightning 1-10.
So far I'm really liking Eve Online: The Animation. I loves me some space opera, and this is great stuff.
Kinda off topic, but I'm still waiting for Star Trek: The Anime. This is same genre, but not too close. Probably the closest was Crest/Banner of Stars, but that wasn't quite it either.

They didn't actually burn the Lightning 11 though - did they?
Marika said something along the lines of just wanting to blind them - and then the backup arrived.

No, but the it was said the infrared level of the Lightning 11 was rising and Marika said that they didn't need to burn them. But that she had actually measured that a possibility, if it were necessary, then there is no doubt that the Lightning 11 would have fried. Marika isn't going to shy away from killing people if it means the Bentenmaru/Odette's protection.

I'm really starting to enjoy this show. How it's setting it up.
Can't wait to see how Marika takes over next show.

This show is really fun. Seems like Marika has a lot to get used to before she's true captain material. I like how they didn't bother to introduce the crew and just threw her into it, I also like how one of her training exercises was apparently building a scale model of the ship. But it's nice to know they have the classic flair of pirates - swords and eyepatches glaore. Not to mention the good old, "don't bring a sword to a gun-fight" trick.
Marika's gotta work on her pirate laugh though.
"GAAAAHAHAHA, GAa-ack-*cough* U-wuagh!!"
Also the next ep looks awesome, was that some warp drive action I saw?
