Believe it or not, I haven't seen any of Fate/stay night (I do intend to. But it being out of print and me basically abandoning fansubs probably for good doesn't help.), but considering Fate/Zero is a prequel, I wasn't too confused.

The first episode wasn't all that great, but the animation, it's so beautiful you want to cry.

Well, not entirely, since the original thread is archived on SA, but since the Something Aweful forums are indeed something aweful, you have to pay to view the original thread. But my link will go by a lot faster, since you don't have all the forum chatter and stuff. 

And that's way better than the anime, trust me.

Not that you need to have a background in F/SN to watch Zero, since almost everything is explained up front, it looks like.

Just watched episode 5 myself. I was worried that there was only 13 episodes and so far there had been only a limited amount of interaction between the Servants and Masters, but that was cleared up today.

Pretty sure Fate/Zero has been confirmed as a split season series, 13 eps in this Fall season and another 13 next Spring.

I only had ya watch UBW for getting to know certain characters (Shirou/Rin/Sakura/Ilya/Saber/Kotomine/Gil) and for the awesome fights.

There is no other way to appreciate the Fate/Stay story other than the VN. Watching the TV anime which mucks up so many things would probably be worse than not watching it at all. But as I also said in that thread, none of it was required. You could have watch F/Z without having any knowledge of the Fate-verse beforehand.

Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed it, just I really only understood what was going on because of Kara no Kyoukai rather than the movie's exposition.

Fate/Zero actually cleared up more than the movie.






The fights were totally worth the confusion, though. >.>

Im really enjoying this series so far. Its been pretty good and interesting to watch because i loved the Fate Stay/Night series.

The importance of names/identity is a rather common occurrence to see in the Fate-verse. It could be possible that Kiritsugu's little special gun can only work in close range after shouting the name of its target to activate some sort of anti-magic thing.

I won't second guess it until that particular encounter is over.
