First episode was good. It definitely felt like Last Exile, although I could have sworn that Dio died in the original series.
Also, dat princess.

I really can't say I care much for Fam yet. Of course we have plenty of time to explore her backstory and abilities, but it seems to me like she has an unreasonable amount of skill for being so young. That and with all those air pirates around I don't understand how someone doesn't beat her to punch on the first harpoon. That and I miss Claus. ![]()
Anyway, I thought the episode was good. I guess I have forgotten a lot of the original series since I can't really remember where they are anymore (earth or the other colonized planet). It was neat to see the vanships again, I always thought they had an awesome design. And the battle between the pirates and the evil nation was pretty well thought out, especially since they escaped in the end. I still feel very "thrown in" to the story though, since we don't really know what happened or how long the gap was between series. Hopefully we'll get to see Tatiana and Alvis soon.
I am a fan of Dio's return though, I feel like he didn't get much of a chance to do his thing in the first series and it seems he'll have plenty of chances to do so in this one. That fight with him in the opening seemed pretty awesome, too. Speaking of the opening, if you play the footage with cloud age symphony it seems so much more appropriate.

From what I've heard the artbook confirmed that ages ago.

I saw him and wondered who the chick was. Then someone called him Dio, and I was all

Apparently you can hear him in the engine room right at the end, or something.

I had always assumed that was supposed to be like a memory echo or something like that to indicate he was still there in spirit or that people remembered him. Supposedly there's something in an artbook that hints he survived though.
I'm not unhappy at all to have Dio back. I just don't understand where this is taking place. Did the Guild stowaway on Exile, or use their super tech to follow it?

How come nobody is talking about this?
The most recent ep was incredible. Tatiana using the Silvana to charge through enemy lines just to blow up a mountain and start conflict between Ades and Glacies.
Feel bad for Giselle, but I hope they don't focus too much on the Fam/Millia/Gizzy triangle especially since it seems we might be getting to see Anatoray soon.

I shelved it to marathon when it's done. I just wasn't able to get into it on a weekly basis, since I'd spend too much time trying to remember what happened the previous episode and sorting out the characters again, and by the time my brain had caught up and was in the story universe, the ep was over. Rinse, lather, repeat.
I know I'll love it, but weekly just short changes it with my stupid head. ![]()

As I said elsewhere, this series gives me everything that I want with this kind of show, and better than the first season.
Also, those Not-Russians sure have some advanced tech there.
And it looks like Fam made some new future friends for Gisey to get jelly over.

Dio did die in the first one, this series lacks the same things that made Last Exile interesting.
That, and it's too cutesy.
I disagree.
While I conceed to the cutsey bit, although parts of it seem to make fun of the genre (i.e. the Millia cosplay bit), this definitely has a lot interesting elements. Of course there's all the political and military action on the part of the various factions, each with their own unique technology. The motives behind the Ades Federation are still a mystery, as I think there's some debate as to whether they actually stayed on Earth or were simply the first to return to it. Not to mention all the manipulation and plans of Luscinia, who seems to have access to Guild technology. There's also plenty of mystery surrounding Anatoray and it's establishment on Earth. Although Fam may not be the most interesting character to follow, I think her story is pretty versatile in the sense that she belongs with the Sky Pirates and therefore has no real affilitation (except now with Turan, I suppose). Further, she seems to have a lot of potential as a pilot, though I'm curious how she'd handle a Vanship over the Vespa.
Anyway, I've heard a lot of negatives about the direction the sequel took but frankly I'm enjoying it just as much as the first.

but I don't like that Millia was the navi in the latest episode. Her being the one to shoot the flare (?) to bring the ship down was really unbelievable and stupid.
I'm a bit torn about Millia being the navi for that bit. One one hand, we already knew Gisey had failed to bring down a ship previously and that she had her reservations about wanting to stay and help the Silvana when they should be back with the Sky Pirates. But at the same time, while I would enjoy seeing Millia become a more useful character, I don't really want to see a focus on the inevitable drama that is to follow. Furthermore, I'm not really sure how much Millia can gain from participating when she really should be focused on restablishing Turan. Then again, it seems to be working well for Teddy.
However I really don't think her bringing down the ship was that unbelievable. Improbable perhaps, but with a stroke of luck it's certainly possible.

To be fair, there was a lot of Skyfish Hunting that we didn't get to see. It's perfectly plausible that they had taught her something about it beforehand, I honestly don't think Fam would just take her out there on a whim and tell her to shoot with nothing.
Then again, none of what I'm suggesting was implied either so...it's perfectly possible it was just a stupid script decision.

That's the fuel of Anatoray.
We do not know that is the fuel of either Ades (Gloria Augusta!) or Glacies as far as I know.
They're flying Vanships, right? I'd think that would be the same fuel as the first but I guess this story wanted to be different. This story isn't grabbing me, there's a lot of failed character introduction, they throw you right into the story as if you're to know who these people are. The reintroduction of Dio is a surprise, and not a good one but a continuity flawed one. Dio is dead, he fell off the vanship in the grand stream and there was nothing there to save him. From the imagery you have no other conclusion than to think he was dead.
But voila, he's resurrected and one of the central character of the series. It's this kind of continuity flaw from the first that makes it hard for me to watch this.

Dio is immortal. /s
But seriously there were hints he was still alive at the end of the first series, I believe that was already mentioned earlier in the thread.
Also the first Last Exile took place on a completely different world, so it's not safe to assume things on Earth are the same. Ades might not have had access to the same technology/fuel that Anatoray had back in LE1.
