Yeah, they're going too far. helpme, this will even s.crew company websites. YouTube would go bye-bye due to all the copyrighted stuff on there, even though there are legal anime streams on there.

It hasn't yet, because all those letters, petitions, and protests did make a difference and as a result Congress delayed the vote further until after the holidays.
I hope you're being sarcastic, but something tells me you aren't.
Here's a hint: The bill can't pass without the Senate being in session, and the Senate is away on "vacation". The payroll tax cut extension is of far more importance for legislators than this SOPA thing.

Basically review sites like ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com and others could be shut down. The Nostalgia Critic had a bit of a rough spot when he tried to review The Room. Picture that times a thousand.

How about YouTube? I expect YouTube to definitely be affected by this.

But they will.

They don't catch much of the stuff, and they don't really until someone reports it to them, whether it's a valid claim, or someone pretending to be the company.

Yes, because people never eeeever abuse their power.
As the bill was originally written, "offending" sites could be delisted from the internet without prior warning. All because some suit files a complaint.
Also, if you think YouTube won't be affected, then why has Google been so adamant against it?

Or if there are a couple links to illegal streaming sites. You could have like two, someone files a claim, and bam, gone.
Also, SOPA will kill Google.

Our politicians are corrupt these days. You know what, we should all just move to Japan. Sure the anime is expensive as fuuuuuudge, you have to pay for streams, and other things, but at least we'll still have internet.

And unless you can cite me precedent of the government abusing federal regulation of the internet, then I'm not going to entertain your babble.
Actually, Google stands to lose a lot, given that they link to sites with pirated content, and sometimes get paid for every click-thru.
Don't know about you, but to me, this sounds like over-reaching.
"But under British law, the site is not illegal."
The Fail Toys guy, who we all know is crazy hyper in his presentations (try to endure that to hear what he's saying), makes some interesting points about SOPA here. I wonder if anyone will actually take the companies pushing for SOPA to court for providing the piracy software under their own branding banners, with instructions on exactly how to find and download even their own copyrighted material. That's some testimony before Congress I'd love to listen to.

We're talking about a government who took the liberty to blow up a citizen into itty-bitty pieces without even sniffing a courtroom. But you're right, I'm sure if they're willing to kill one of their own citizens, they'll surely not abuse any legislation geared toward the internet. ![]()

Yup, the possibility of them going after more than just illegal streaming sites is high. Hell, I heard this could lead to people getting in trouble for using a Skyrim avatar on a forum for example.
It's a shame that every time they make a bill to try to stop piracy, they always go too far. Can't anybody get a piracy bill right?![]()

Gina already made a valid argument, so I just figured I'd point out the obvious point that the government will readily over step its bounds if it feels it serves a purpose.
Of course, but you'd much rather sit back and call me names. That's something only petulant children who know they can't win the argument resort to.

Just like with the PlayStation Network hacking incident. We had certain parts of the government get involved in that. The guys responsible for that were in Sweden IIRC.
