you should stick with the dub...bob buchholz does a splendid job as gene, and the supporting cast is mostly excellent.

I've tried watching it subbed, but being that I first watched it on Toonami dubbed, and I really have no issues with it or anything, that's how I like it. Never went more than an ep or two subbed. I'm not the type of fan to be so concerned over things like that unless there's really something irritating about the dub.

I'm surprised there's so many that didn't care for the end song. I personally love it, and don't really care too much for the opening. It's ok a time or two, but I wouldn't want to sit through it every ep.

Nice thread. I do think Outlaw Star deserves one more run on TV though, but i'm content with the DVDs i own.

A bit of trivia for the new viewers:

As Toonami starts up, Tom chants the same chant as the Tao masters. A nice nod to the days of yore.

Indeed. One thing to remember is that Outlaw Star was originally on the Toonami Midnight Run. And considering how big it was for Toonami, it's only natural that they would give it props.

does anyone have Clean Caps of those panels???? also, when everyone is done with Outlaw Star, there's a show called Angel Links that's a Sequel/Prequel to OS, and if you remember the episode Law and Lawlessness, two of the chars in that Ep are main chars of the series Angel Links.......and if you look close you see Fred Lou in the first Ep of Angel Links......

If no one's got them, next time I pop the DVD in, I'll see what I can do. I would like that green one with the girl and fox-like animal as a wallpaper...

Just to clarify, when people mention caps, are they referring to still screen shots? Regardless of what they are, I will not be able to make any for this series because I do not have a DVD player in my PC. But sometime in the not-to-distant future I might be able to start doing that, for particular series.

Thanks for the link. That whole process seems pretty self-explanatory, but it provides some nice fine details about the settings and buttons to use on Windows Media Player, which saves me the time of tracking it down at a later date.

OT: I like the opening, similar to other people. It has a strong upbeat melody to it, which all action shows must have for the mood, of course. The only problem is that it sounds quite repetitive to me. So, I'll probably only listen to the whole thing every once in a while. The ending theme, meanwhile, has a very different style to it. It has a much softer melody that helps to promote a sense of peace or tranquility. I'm not sure where that's going, but that's the feeling I got from it.

Ok! OMG! I finally got around to watching these episodes and I am totally blown away. I mean... I still have old VHS tapes of the Toonami run (and if I can find a VCR somewhere, I'll be happy to let you guys know how the edits were handled), so the Toonami run was basically all I've ever known and I loved it so much. But the uncut DVDs are even more awesome. Personally, I think Gene is hawt ** spammity spam ** and I totally fangirl him now, but I had no idea he had this other side to him b/c it was cut out of Toonami. So... I'm going to be raiding Dream's bucket for Gene pics. :smileyhappy: <333 the club temptation scene :smileywink:

As for sub vs dub, I have both on the dvds, but seeing as how they used the same script for both, I see no point in watching both versions since there are no differences. I rewatched episode 1 with japanese audio and the subtitles were almost word for word from the dub script. The one thing I did learn from it was that Jim calls Gene "aniki" and it's totally adorable. He's much more grown up than in the Tooanmi version, what with all the "space cherry" talk. So... the only time I'll be listening to the sub is when the new characters are introduced to see how everyone sounds with their seiyuus. I actually prefer Japanese Jim, but other than that I'm loving Gene and Hilda in the dub. I kept thinking Hilda was voice by McGlynn, but wasn't really sure. I looked it up, and because it was under another name, I thought it wasn't her. Then I clicked on the name and found out it was just an alias. But I'm wowed at her resume. I had no idea she did all the staff work/singing/voice directing and so on. I think she even directed an episode of Cowboy Bebop. Kewl.

Also... Hilda and Gene should totally hook up after they take out McCoy or whoever it is in the dumpling suit. ^_^

Yay, I'm glad you were finally able to watch the episodes! ^_^ Thanks for telling us about the differences with the sub and, yeah, I'd be interested in finding out about the Toonami edits. :smileyhappy:

Also, yeah, McGlynn is one of the most important people in the dubbing world. Even if she didn't star in an anime as a voice, chances are she probably worked on the English version in some other way instead! :smileyvery-happy:

Oh, and at some point, Dream's got a whole bunch of caps he's promised us, so you'll be able to find the Gene shots you're looking for. :smileywink: Same goes for you, wolfpriest. Maybe RPD or Dream could screencap the ED for you. :smileyhappy:

@rpgamer: Actually, I did notice the similiarity between the Tao chant and Tom's utterance back when I watched these episodes, but I wasn't sure if it was reference to Outlaw Star or not, so I didn't mention it. Thanks for bringing it up! :smileyhappy:

Thanks a bunch, la la. ^_^ I think I actually remember seeing the 2nd ending once. A couple of those panels looked familiar.

Again, I think that may have been concept artwork or something of a similiar nature. In fact, a couple of those gals almost reminded me of Melfina....
