I'm anti-mac.

I think apple computers are for hipsters with money to burn.  If you open up a mac and look at the hardwre, you'll find that they're using mostly the same stuff as everyone else.

The only thing that macs have going for them is the easy-to-use interface.  It's pretty, and it's great if you know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about computers.

Macs are actually great for programmers and the average computer user. Unix-like OS on properly supported hardware? Sign me right the hell up. The only reason to use OSX over virtually any Linux distro is supported hardware and some program compatibilty. The only reason to use Windows is if you need to use specific hardware for whatever reason and program compatibility but the latter is solved by running the OS of choice in a VM. The only reason really not to use a Mac is cost which I'll grant for a lot of people, myself included, is a big barrier to entry. If you want to be able to do virtually anything on a computer, the Macintosh family is the way to go since the OS is pretty good and you can install almost any other operating system on it alongside OSX.

That is very much false. Cost plays the biggest factor, at least in my opinion. If a properly supported machine running OSX were ~$500, a majority of the Windows using population would switch to it overnight. Most people are morons and are tired of "mah winduz got da virus agin" situations. For your average person, Macs just work.

Neither the government, or the majority of public school boards in this nation use Macs. They did, but over a 6 year period they all moved to PC's. The world used Mac, and the world tossed Mac aside. Dale with it.

Ask your average computer user and I don't mean your friends who have half an idea of how they work, I mean the true average user, and they would take a Mac every single time. When public schools were using Macs that was before widespread cross platform compatibility. Today, Macs just work with #### near everything.

Depends on the language. If you want to use a proprietary Microsoft platform, then yes, obviously Windows is better. If you want to use essentially any other language, then a Unix system is better.

well, what I'm talking about is just overall usage. like, you can't even process (well you can but it's in early alpha) action script on an iphone. and even on the apple it's kinda limited (as I have read).

I'll just stick with pc. gaming, music(recordingediting) and programming is all I want.

Flash doesn't really have any issues running on OS X. True it doesn't run on iOS, but we're not talking about phones. Windows Phone 7 purportedly does not support Flash either. Neither do many Android phones.

Saying Windows is better for programming is not correct, though. You have to set up a lot more stuff to enable every programming language on Windows in comparison to *nix. On *nix I can just open a terminal and start writing Ruby, Python, Perl, Bash, PHP, Java, C, etc. I don't need to install a separate IDE/interpreter/compiler for each language, modify my path, and hope the system doesn't need to be rebooted in order for everything to integrate. It's all already integrated. The file system is a lot more sensible, the terminal is great, I prefer the UI, and so on. It's sort of a personal preference thing, but having an entire development library fully integrated with the OS versus having a dozen or so separate applications that are almost always Unix ports is definitely a lot easier and more productive.

Action Script is a single proprietary platform developed by Adobe. It's capable of some cool stuff, but it's nothing like Java, for example. If you want to say Windows is better for a tiny subset of proprietary languages that have limited use, then sure. But it's certainly not better for programming, by any means.

I use my PC for gaming, and my Mac for everything else. I'm not saying either is inherently better, but I prefer Unix over Windows.

I don't know where you're finding those. This state just upgraded to top of the line XPS systems three years ago.

The computers we had at my Reserve unit, were upgraded every two years.

I'm sure some offices do eventually upgrade their systems, but the point is that judging a thing's worth/usability on public institution usage is illogical.

You wouldn't say the Crown Victoria is the best car available because of it's widespread use by police departments. That wouldn't even make sense.

But, you appear to be saying that Dell is the best computer manufacturer because of it's widespread use in public office.
