Prof: Form a research question
Me: Research question
Prof: I don't use that, you need to form a question that can appeal to people outside of your lit
Me: New research question
Prof: This new question... I don't like that word, you're using that word wrong and even though I told you to form a question that could be readily understood by someone who doesn't do what you do you should really consult your literature for the right verbage.
Me:

Prof: What's your hypothesis
Me: Hypothesis
Prof: What does that word mean?
Me: word
Prof: Oh, you should use that word in your question
Me: You told me to make it readily apparent and you also just showcased that you didn't know what that concept meant so how does it make sense to include it in my question
Prof: Look, I don't do what you do and haven't read it so I'll get back to you
Me:

Be critical or be inconversent. Don't be both and then make it my problem.
