Jerk stole my parking spot at the mall

So there I was, waiting for a woman to back out of her spot. It must have been at least 30 seconds of waiting with no one else in the aisle. Then at the last second, a van whips around from the other end. Because of the angle that the woman was back out at, the guy in the van had the advantage to steal the spot--which he did without hesitation. What a jerk! I was pissed off for like the first hour of shopping. The lot was packed, too. It wasn't easy finding another spot else where. I chewed him out, and as a group the best defense they could come up with was "I don't see your name there on the spot." Really? That's all you can say about the situation. I told him he should be a man and do what's right, that he was pathetic and (sarcastically) I bet he makes some girl really happy. What a bunch of jerks.

Haven't had the pleasure of that happening to me yet. I think the best way to handle something like that is to get into their head rather than let them get in yours. A comment such as "Yeah I guess it IS public parking ... That's probably also why the mall isn't responsible for vehicle damage, cars getting keyed or tires getting slashed .. stuff like that" Then read his license plate outloud and quickly drive away. That way the jerk will spend the whole time in the mall worrying about his vehicle and you have a satisfaction of knowing just that :smileywink:

"No, it doesn't gross me out. I have learned a long time ago to accept the fact kids will forget to flush the toilet. It's when they leave a floater and no TP with it, THAT'S when I get grossed out"

You actually chewed him out over that?   People are inconsiderate and oblivious to others especially at the mall parking lot.  It's all about me me me,  I have to buy #### now or the world will end.

I'd say you wasted your breath and time.

Whether that's true or not, he deserved to hear what I thought of it. If he's too awful to realize he was wrong on some level, that's pretty sick. I regret nothing. It truly is a pathetic thing to do.

No offense, but...

Did you even consider the possibility that he didn't see you waiting?   Also he most likely can't read minds, so how would he know that you where going to park and not just waiting for the car to move so you could leave the lot?

Deserved it?  Who are you to make that call?  Did you even consider that you overreacted?  Did it even cross your mind to be the better person, no I bet not.  Perhaps you are the one who is sick.

And wow, just wow...  You really are quite bent out of shape about this huh?   Wasted effort over something rather trivial and inconsequential.

He saw that I was waiting with my blinker on, there was even a brief moment of eye contact. The way the car back out put him at the positional advantage to swipe the spot. As he was turning into it I honked at him, but he didn't stop or back out. The guys got out and were laughing and clearly didn't care that they (quite obviously) took my spot.

I could have just driven on saying nothing, but I don't like backing down when someone was clearly doing wrong. It took a minute of my time and afterward I didn't feel like someone who doesn't stand up for herself. Bullys bully because no one stands up to them. Maybe I made him feel bad about it on some level. Maybe I didn't, but I still stand by the decision to speak my mind.

Well that is clear, sorry didn't have all the facts.  Hence the questions.  Never said you shouldn't stand up for yourself and good for you.  It takes courage to stand up for yourself when you have been wronged.  Can't say the situation merited such a strong reaction though.  Another question if you don't mind,  can you stand up for yourself against yourself or better put against your own anger?

I do admit when I'm wrong and even when I could be wrong.

It might seem like a strong reaction, but it was so outrageous given how deliberately he took the spot with no hesitation or regret (just smugness) I felt he deserved to hear my thoughts.

Good for you, it's not easy is it.

To me or in my opinion the situation perhaps did not call for a strong reaction, however the more you tell me about what happened the more I am changing my opinion of it.

No doubt the guy was a jerk.  And you did well in that situation.  An overreaction in this case would be to key his car.

lol--yeah keying his car would be going too far.

When I was a kid and at the grocery store with my mom, we went out to the car with all our groceries to find that someone had slashed one tire. I was too young to really understand the whole situation but it was done by a neighbor that my parents did not get along. I will never forgot that day and how upset it made my mother. Ever since then I've thought that people who vandalize parked cars to get revenge are despicable.

I totally agree,  that taking out ones anger or rage with vandalism is down right despicable as you put it.

My best friend used to do stuff like that, he even slashed all four tires on his ex.'s car.  He did own up to it and pay for the damage, since then he  doesn't handle his anger that poorly anymore.  Facing ones own anger is a hard thing. Not letting it get the better of you is even harder.

That's certainly true. Glad your friend is over all that. It's also a pretty immature reaction to a given situation. Maturity (or lack there of) can play a role as well, I suppose.

Oh absolutely you have a good point, maturity plays a huge role in how people handle things.

Well I don't get to say this often in rants,  but it has been great pleasure discussing these topics with you.

I have to log off now, it's been fun:smileywink:

Would it kill you to walk?

I don't know where you live, but in the southeast US, the weather has been REALLY NICE for the past couple of days.

Anyway, you really shouldn't be upset over this.  Yes, the world is filled with jerks, but you shouldn't be bothered by something as trivial as a parking space.

Last year I had parked on the side of the street a little down the the street from my work. It snowed, the plows plowed in all of the cars on either side and there was no parking ban because It was a freak storm of 6 inches. Anyway the spaces obviously were covered by snow by then and someone dug out a spot behind me, and parked too close for me to edge out on the street side. After clening the snow off of my truck and dropping it onto the driver seat of their car because they were dumb enough to leave their window slightly down, I was able to drive up on the store front to the end of the street to get into traffic.

A confrontation wasn't necessary.

I have roofing tacks in the car for when people do that. I "innocently" drop them right under the tires where they'll catch.... >.>
