My Little Pony

[ Edited ]

I can't believe how much I'm seeing crap about ponies.

When did the original come out? Like 20 years ago? Who's the target audience for this cartoon? People in their mid 20's?

How many kids do you know that actually give a **noel** about My Little Pony and compare that to how many people are way too old to go on and on about it.

I know I enjoy silly things, too, like beer and women, but this is My Little Pony.

I'll just leave this here.

Horses are cool. I don't have one.
I can't afford one and even if I could, I'm sure my landlord wouldn't let me keep it.

We could make it do stunts and drink beer and chase cats!

But.. they **noel** a lot and eat a lot. I have a hard enough time feeding the dog.
He eats a lot, too. He's a growing boy, though, what can I say?

I'm tired of it too. It's everywhere no matter where I go online. I hated it at first, then I tried to accept it, then tried doing what other pony lovers said and watched a few eps, still don't like it.

I guess I'll just have to learn to live with ponies everywhere until the meme dies down.

Yes the original came out some time ago but this version is NOTHING like the original.

The original had a target audience of young girls and it showed (lifeless boring ponies about friendship and love and sparkly blegh).

The person that worked on this current version (Lauren Faust) wanted to make a kids show that wasn't all sappy and giggly or whatever.

The ponies were given actual personalities and are fun to watch.

As a fan in my mid 20's; I enjoy this show.

It's not for everyone though. ~shrug~

Same here. I tried watching one episode while I was trying to find something to distract my nephew.
I got about half way through it and I was like "F**k this. we're watching Yo Gabba Gabba".

Okydokey, then. No, it is not for everyone. I can see why young ladies would get in to it.

It's colorful and cutesy and all that.

I'm not going to lie, I enjoy some kids shows. I like Yo Gabba Gabba.

I don't watch it habitually, but when I'm around the kids, I'm more than happy to watch it with them.

The other day I even watched a few episodes of the Super Mario Brothers Super Show.

Man, that brought back memories of Saturday mornings.

But it isn't just a giant pile of cutesy girly mush.

I've had times where I was on the edge on my seat waiting to see what happened next and i've teared up a few times.

Then again, I am a VERY sentimental person so maybe i'm just different. :smileytongue:

Man, you cat owners. I just don't get it.

I just couldn't spend like kind of money every week on cat food because the cat is too spoiled to eat anything else.
It's a CAT!
I'd just give the cat normal, cheap cat food.
It'll only turn it's nose up at it for so long until it gets hungry enough to compromise.

It helps if you're predisposed to enjoying good kids' cartoons.

It's hard to explain the exact appeal of the show. It's endearing on many different levels and everyone has their own reasons for watching it. Sure, there are those caught up in the whole "meme" aspect, but a good chunk of the fanbase truly enjoys the series. I compare it to South Park in a way: on the surface you think "this is stupid and terrible, why do people watch this?" but then you look deeper into the content and the true cleverness sinks in. It's not apparent or appealing to everyone, but the show has hit upon a perfect mix of surface childhood charm and deeper adult themes/references.

It's ok if you don't like it; as I said it's not for everyone. :smileyhappy:

I was behind you until this point.
No. Just no. South Park is nothing but empty pop culture humor covered in shock value to make itself look "edgy." To call it clever in any way is insulting to comedy, intelligence, and entertainment. I honestly don't get how people can recognize how sh*tty Mind of Mencia is, then turn around and say the latest ep of South Park is awesome. They're pretty much equal in how annoyingly unfunny they are.

Let me elaborate:

I do not find everything that South Park does to be clever. A lot of it is, as you said, empty humor and shock value; but for me it has its moments where a real intelligent humor pokes its head through the the rest and that's what kept me watching for a long time. Their subtle presentation of the problem of there being one "correct" religion (in their interpretation of hell) turning the whole concept of spirituality into nothing more than a multiple choice question is one example of hidden cleverness.

But this thread is about MLP. If you want to get into a more detailed discussion about South Park feel free to send me a PM.
