Subtitles never bothered me.  I don't understand why some people get so worked up over them.  Bad voice-over dubs are more offensive.
Quit talking about math. This thread is about wanting to be raped.

Yeah, but we're talking about 9 year olds here.

I recently had a class where some people were b-tching because the documentary we were watching (on Africa) was originally in French and subtitled.  And most of the people in there were graduating seniors.

When I entered medicine I realized that 99.9% of all that I've learned and studied is completely irrelevant to my degree track.

All the better.

Break their 10-second attention spans while they're young. Use soft restraints and mild electric shocks if necessary.

Another day, another f--king blown interview, another day spent rotting at home.

*sigh* I need a f--king drink. Might as well bump this as a reminder--this is the first day of the rest of your goddamn life.

Would love to continue my education and actually use my knowledge for something other than repetitive mindless sh-t, but it's not a viable option for me right now.

I'm in that same boat as you, my friend.

And it's a rapidly sinking ship.

Here is my rant on the matter.

That seems to be an evergrowing problem for undergrads. They exhuast their funds, credit, or loan limits in college.
A BA doesn't even get you scrapes anymore. I wish there were more resources for people. Or if you're talented, you could opt for some sort of grant/scholarship.

Ideally, I need to either go back for my Masters' or work a sh-tty job for long enough in order to save up enough and move from this dead zone and go to DC where the poli-sci jobs are at.

Right now, I'm a mercenary careening from place to place on temp duty. And it blows.

im all for reforming the standard in school systems. but that would take some coordination with the work force, knwoing whats required and whats personal. i think most subjects should be sought independanty.. slumping everything together for a growing price and wasting it sooner than later is a scam. the largest problem is everything i was taught in school had no connections with parralels with each other, or to anything outside of school or on the job.

ive made my opinion that schools should aim each student earlier and earlier towards specific feilds (of the students choosing, or where they excel).  they way schools are set up dont allow any room to excel, unless you achieve a standard. and even in the case of college you can only honor what your most able to excel at (had you had the disciplined study in the past). but the earlier and earlier approach only papers over the cracks. we dont need herded,.. already we're shifted to meet the market.

i think it would take a job market looking for people and not numbers, and a school system gearing towards fundamental disciplines to turn things around. work should be an extention of need in the community (economic the least of which), and school should be by extension a focal point of each community. where the community excels, the school should reflect, and where the school applies disciple the job market flourishes.

i doesnt sound far off, from whats in place now. but that only what each project,.. like a temple to statistics built upon the ruins of a flea market. when did mass production amke its way into education? from as ideal a proposal i make, as would make a case for church in schools.. i think thats been the problem. building upon an "everything is within our reach and our domain" concept has clogged the pipes. i could trail it all back to big business if i took the time.. but if anyone want to argue against that - they're proabably disalusioned at their current education and job performance.

and by the fundamental disciplines in schools i mean less breifing, and cursory glances about subjects. they would need to tie into each other. a basis of math, and subjects where it applies in later years would work for a community dealing primarily with commerce. history might be a great basis for trade, and craftsmanship. familys that put emphasis and esteem in each market would naturally seek out those schools and communities. natural selection as an applied reform. i doubt big business would fair so well in that atmospere.. how would a community prepare for that? sensory deprivation, thats how.

**that looks like alot to edit, so you'll excuse me if i dont** :smileyindifferent:

This my friend, is how the good get beat...

...by readily accepting their own defeat.

"Mr. Rearden," said Francisco, his voice solemnly calm, "if you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with the last of this strength, and the greater his effort the heavier the world bore down on his shoulders--what would you tell him to do?"
"I ... don't know. What ... could he do? What would you tell him?"
"To shrug."
