I just don't think that opportunity is as present in the pilot they ultimately went with just due to the constant beating over the head with the "HAH LOOK I'M OVER THE TOP WACKY AND TYPING IN ALL CAPS!!!" feel.
Excellent point. Seems to show a lack of confidence, which is NOT conducive to comedy success.
And it makes the jokes that actually are weak stand out alot more.
the stillborn joke was obviously intended to be a non-sequitor in terrible taste to the point of being unfunny to the point of actually becoming funny again, but the joke wasn't strong enough in the first place, and THEN they put in an awkaward beat where you can just feel them acknowledging the joke's crappiness. If you're gonna go for that kinda thing (and leave in a sub-par joke), you have to carry it through with confidence and keep moving like it was nothing, leaving the viewer only a second to react. For me, that completely broke the flow of the humor. I think my girlfriend completely gave up on the show at that moment, i dunno if she's even gonna watch it with me next week. It didn't offend her because of the content of the joke, i think it offended her intellectually with the terrible quality and execution of the joke.
When i watch something, the more i have laughed, the more easily i continue to laugh and laugh harder. (i'm sure this is true with most people, to the point i feel stupid explaining it) But a crappy moment like that can easily break my flow, and it made the laughs come slower for the remainder of the ep. I'd rather have a second or two of dead air than a really crappy moment, cuz it just dulls my overall enjoyment.
Moral Orel and Pushing Daisies are both cancelled.
I love King of the Hill, but i don't know if it fits [as]. Better than Family Guy again, though.
Atleast i can look forward to anothr season of Xavier and Squidbillies.
R.I.P. Moral Orel
