I feel like i need to put something in as well. Anime was the thing that brought me back to Cartoon Network. During the major anime frenzy, I watched cartoon network every night. I also relied on it to introduce me to new anime I hadn't seen before. I know that everyone made the announcement that everyone was going to try Comedy and do a Comedy frenzy and get rid of the most of the anime, and I know that when I saw that announcement, I thought you guys were all kidding. When I saw that it was true, let's just say that for me, it was a very sad day.
Personally, I dislike a lot of the comedies because of the art form and some of the themes presented. To me, the art is ugly and the jokes are vulgar. When I look at anime, I see an old art form that I grew up on. In my own opinion, Anime is one of the greatest art forms ever created. Putting the art aside, most animes have deeper stories as well, things that make you think, give you a feeling or a deeper understanding of life, etc.
I'll admit, I tried watching a few of the comedy shows. First I tried about 8 seconds of mcgee, next I tried Harvey Birdman (lasted a few minutes), and finally the Boondocks (lasted a few seconds). Maybe Adult Swim is attempting to go for a younger audiance, I don't know.
Just consider this for a moment... Adult Swim was designed for teenagers and adults correct? I just don't see how anyone but someone around the ages of 10-12 would like most of the shows put on there. While anime is more geared for people from the ages of 14+ (depending on the type of anime, some are more of 8-12) a lot of the shows up there at the moment are a type of humor more for a pre-teen age. Maybe you simply had more viewers in that age range, who knows. If that is the case, I'd say you made a pretty wise move. If it isn't, I'd have to disagree with the move. The only comedy show I like on cartoon network is Family Guy, and even that is starting to get old.
After seeing that a thread like this started up, I think much of the community really wants the anime back. But, I don't know the viewer figures and I doubt anyone on this thread does, so I can't say that it's our call to make. The only case I can present is that you should act based on the figures. If there is a significantly smaller amount of people watching cartoon network during the late nights versus how many people watched it when anime was on, I'd deffinitely suggest that you switch back to anime. That's common sense = ).
In the end, I hope you guys do the right thing.
By the way, I do have a list of shows to suggest to try and bring others back to anime. A lot of them are older classics, so I doubt many people have seen them.
Rahxephon or Escaflowne (for your mecha)
Dragonball (i wouldn't watch it, but I know others would) (for fight)
The Original Gundam or Gundam Seed (second mecha)
Outlaw Star (somewhat comedy + science fiction)
Rurouni Kenshin (more fight)
GunGrave or Trinity Blood
Serial Expriements Lain
Well, here's an entire list of anime to choose from. This is a list of the top 196 rated anime in the world -.-
http://www.animenfo.com/statistic/top.php?type=anime
By the way, there are well over 300 different anime shows because I just looked at a list of 284 and it didn't list some of the ones I know of (The Legend of Arislan etc). And I would recommend The Legend of Arislan to any anime lover. It was never completed and I only suggest episodes 1-3. Episode 4 has different voices and terrible voice acting. The names also change... If you watch episode 4 ,watch it only for the story, the art, and the music. Ignore the voices and names ><.
Now to go into each of the anime shows I suggested:
I'm going to be using plot summaries from other sites since I haven't seen some of these ^_^. This'll save everyone the hastle of looking this stuff up at the least.
Rahxephon: Bandai Entertainment

But no one has been able to get into Tokyo-until Ayato Kamina, a young resident fleeing a horrifying attack on the city, unwittingly breaks out. An extraordinary mystery unfolds as Ayato confronts a world he has never known, and begins to learn the horrifying secrets of RahXephon, a humanoid super weapon which apparently only he can control.
Escaflowne: Bandai Entertainment

"A smoothly structured, earth-toned and well-drawn Japanese anime." F. X. Feeney, LA Weekly
"Beautifully animated epic is never dull." Maitland McDonagh, TV Guide
Dragonball Z- City Hall Records
I'll write this one out, I saw this when I was 8 and I can't find any good summaries of it. A crap load of fighting. Goku fights Piccolo (a guy from Namek). They join up and become really cool friends. Saiyans come down and everyone fights them. Goku finds out his real name is Kakarot or w/e and him and Vegeta (the saiyan that came down with another saiyan) become friends later on. Goku's son turns into a giant scary ape (one of the saiyan's powers). Goku dies and goes to train while he's dead under this super master guy. When he comes back. he goes on this vessel to Namek to stop Frieza from collecting the Dragonalls to make his wish. Everyone kills Frieza (terribely long fight episodes. Goku's fight was maybe spread over 3 episodes with Frieza). Goku achieves Super Saiyan 1. They all go back to Earth but wait! Frieza was reconstructed as a robot! Trunks comes from the future and kills Frieza for good in like 1 blow. He warns of the clones. First attack by the clones happens in a city. They rape the Clones, but wait, those aren't the real clones. The doctor guy unlashes the real clones. Suddenly Cell is unleashed and the Cell Tournaments begin. They all fight cell on this arena he made (-.-). After that, we start meeting Hercules and his daughter. His daughter later learns how to fly, and I think he does too. Bibbidy and Bobbidy and Buu saga begins (yea...). And this is the point where I simply stopped watching it and I'm sure you can imagine why that was ;p. For fighting, this is probably one of the better fight anime shows created. A lot of people really enjoy this season. I enjoyed it when I was 8. At 12, when Majin Buu was coming, I couldn't take it ;p.
Mobile Suit Gundam V09- Bandai Entertainment
The first of the immensely popular GUNDAM anims, MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM begins in the year 0079 of the Universal Century, as the Earth Federation is fighting a losing battle against the rogue Principality of Zeon. In these episodes, the tide begins to turn in the Federation's favor as the Tyanm fleet wins a breakthrough battle against the Zeon forces. Later, Armuro is linked with Char Aznable and Lalah forever when he discovers that he holds a power that could have an incredible effect on the war.
Gundam Seed- INFINITY RESOURCES INC
The Gundam anime series dates back to the 1970s and is one of the first shows to use the concept of giant fighting "mecha" robots piloted by humans. GUNDAM SEED, which originally aired in 2002 and 2003, is set in the parallel dimension "cosmic era" of the Gundam fictional universe. The show won the Animage Grand Prix prize in 2002.
Outlaw Star- Bandai Entertainment
Gene Starwind and his partner Jim Hawking run a small business on the backwater planet of Centinel 3. But all that changes the day that Hilda hires them for a bodyguard job. Now, thrust into a mystery they don't fully understand, they're on the run from the cops, the pirates, an angry alien, and a mysterious assassin. But they've got one thing going in their favor - they have the galaxy's most advanced ship!
Rurouni Kenshin- Media Blasters Inc.
Our saga begins over ten years after the bloody Meiji Revolution that marked the end of the rule of the Shogun and the Samurai in Japan.
In Tokyo, where swords have been banned, Kaoru bumps into the wandering Kenshin while looking for the man that is tarnishing the name of her fencing school. This proves to be the beginning of a long, exciting adventure for her... the beginning of a journey with a master swordsman that wields a reverse-bladed sword whose skills are only rivaled by the weight of his heart.
Now the adventure starts as we are thrust into an era long gone, not only of blades and duels, but where honor and reputation were still a person's most prized possessions.
GunGrave- Paramount Home Video
Based on a manga and videogame, the action-packed anime series GUNGRAVE blends the science-fiction and organized crime genres into a supernatural tale of friendship, betrayal, and vengeance. Brandon Heat and Harry McDowell were best friends and partners in crime until Harry betrayed and killed Brandon in his quest to become leader of the crime syndicate Milleneon. When a doctor finds a way to bring the murdered youth back to life, Brandon--now known as Beyond the Grave--returns from the dead to pursue the destruction of Milleneon and bring vengeance upon the man who betrayed him. This first volume of episodes introduces the story through flashbacks of Brandon and Harry's early friendship and their eventual descent into enmity.
Trinity Blood- Funimation Prod Inc
The supernatural, futuristic, and mythological converge in the engaging, action-packed anime series TRINITY BLOOD. Set in an apocalyptic future where vampires and humans are engaged in a constant battle between good and evil, the anime centers around a priest, Peter Abel Nightroad, who deals with the unholy bloodsuckers in a rather unorthodox fashion.
Serial Expriements Lain- Geneon [Pioneer]
