Hunter x Hunter (2011)

(When it gets licensed that is.) Currently can be watched on Crunchyroll. http://www.crunchyroll.com/hunter-x-hunter

So I saw the first episode just now, and I must say it possibly could work for [adult swim] depending on the direction it decideds to go. Though that first episode was much too tame for [adult swim]. It could earn a TVY7-FV rating even.

If the anime follows the manga relatively closely it gets pretty brutal

It's not GOING to get a license...

OMG... I can't believe what I'm about to say... so... don't have a heart attack okay?

I've heard the first dub didn't do very well for Viz Media.

So because of that I've also heard that they won't pick this new series up at all.

It'll be subbed only unfortunately.

So... yeah... it won't happen... unfortunately...

Just air more anime................... Please?

*Facepalm*

Yes I know, VIZ Media as I heard dropped the first anime due to poor sales. I haven't been able to confirm this though, but since Rightstuf put counters up for the box sets, it's most likely true. But just because it got poor sales for them doesn't mean there will be poor sales for a different company. You're forgetting FUNimation Entertainment. That's who I'm expecting to license this, and as you know they dub everything they release onto BD/DVD.

IF Funimation gets it, then sure, put it on Adult Swim.

But I don't see Adult Swim doing this because of their "issues."

They don't have "issues". They're not getting as much money as possible by airing anime. They don't have to air anime, but they choose to. Why? Because they like anime as this has been explained to you OVER 9,000 times.

I'm done with this. It's time we stop beating the dead horse. It's clear-cut they like anime, and if you still can't get it after all the posts we've posted, you're probably never going to get it.

That depends on how violent this adaptation becomes. So I'll give this one a "wait and see".

Hunter x Hunter's first anime was another one of those series that was kind of hard to place on American television. It's clearly a show targeted at young boys but it could get brutally violent. Not that much more so than Naruto but some scenes might have been difficult to edit for Toonami. Depending on how they handle those scenes the new series might be tame enough to air somewhere other than Adult Swim but with no less than a PG rating.

HELPeR for the TOONAMI, Mobile Suit Gundam, Dragon Ball Z, Harvey Birdman and Perfect Hair Forever boards. Feel free to ask me anything on those topics.

Rather early on in the hunter exam, Killua rips out a guy's heart. That's about the most graphic thing I suppose. At least before the OVAs.

Content standards are the reason and according to the people that regulate what is aired for which audiences on television it matters a lot. The system is fine really. There's only two anime that are getting a lot of violence edits on US television right now compared to the good 10+ shows back in the "good old days".

It's too early to call with Hunter x Hunter anyway.

But should it end up on a youth venue because it's not too violent for one then whether or not you watch it is entirely up to you. So don't watch it. I don't care. Just don't steal it because that's the last thing the new Hunter x Hunter needs after the first one didn't sell well. I bought every Hunter x Hunter DVD released here so far for the record. I figure I've already paid my dues to that franchise.

Sorry but Japan has been editing anime since the first day anime got on TV. That's been decades worth of edits.

Such whining about 2 shows that are getting violence edits and blood clean up. Just 2 shows. And both those shows (DBZ Kai and Naruto Shippuden) are available uncut for those who prefer to watch them that way.

Compared to years when over 10 shows were getting major violence edits and blood clean up and not even most of those got uncut releases.

Stop being unreasonable.

Nobody likes edits but sometimes they happen (ironically we get uncut Bleach here, they don't on Japanese television).

If any edits are enough to make you not want to watch a show that's fine.Though lest we forget the hypocrisy that you still watch 4Kids dubs of Yu-Gi-Oh! series which get much more significant edits that alter not only the content level but sometimes even the storylines.

But you can choose to not watch whatever you want, just don't steal the uncut dub because that'll just mean less dubs in the future.

That's not entirely true.

But, the Japanese broadcast of Mirai Nikki will be cutting out a lot of the violence and you will only be able to see it uncut on the DVD's and Blu's.

So, yeah, Japan sometimes gets the same deal as us! I don't think they mind.

Yeah, but you know what I mean. Also remember this censorship?

http://boards.adultswim.com/t5/Other-Anime/Best-censorship-ever/m
-p/60800230#M2488701

Japan rarely gets uncut broadcasts for the more violent stuff, or stuff that isn't really tame like Squid Girl.

Finished episode 2 before Bleach came on. I'm more convinced this could work. Also we just saw our first bit of violence, so it could get less tame from here.
