The old thread got locked, and I'm starting up this new one that will have a much better OP that hopefully will turn out way better.

To DA: Don't post about One Piece season 4+ (It will happen, you just have to be patient.), or saying [adult swim] are idiots. You're free to ask why it wouldn't air, but we don't want it to end up like the previous thread.

Now anyway, One Piece is an excellent show (Scratch that, that's an insult to it even. It's a masterpiece of an anime.) that could do well on [adult swim]. It could be well worth trying, and 205 episodes are dubbed ready to go. Unfortunately this means the fee to air the show is going to be pretty high, probably more so than Bleach as this title is way more popular in Japan, and it cost more for FUNimation Entertainment to license it than VIZ Media to license Bleach.

So if it's a viable option, it would be worth trying maybe the first 50 episodes of the series.

Yes they certainly could start with just 50 or so episodes and see how it does but I would recommend double stripping it anyway because the show is already dubbed and would likely catch on faster if it was double stripped after Bleach.

Bleach has been very successful for Adult Swim and One Piece is one of the only anime on the market with the same level of mainstream appeal and ratings potential. The story is ever expanding, the characters are entertaining, the fights are well done and it has just the right mix of action, comedy and drama.

Agreed. Also if this gets locked, I won't be making another thread, and I doubt anyone in the near future will, so the chances of the show airing would probably decrease. It would be very counterproductive.

Incidently, right now would be ideal with FMA: Brotherhood ending but they wont be able to make it happen that fast unless they already have the rights which is quite unlikely.

True since it takes weeks to months for these airing deals to be made. Plus I doubt [as] has the funds right now to get the airing rights.

Doing so would cause them to have less money. All those shows they made cost absolutely nothing to air, and earn more money than anime does (Anime can't pay for itself. It has to rely on comedies to renew rights.). Those comedies are what give them the funds to get anime, so taking them off means less anime.

They're not missing out on those ratings. They'd have to make it beat Bleach which is unlikely since that's more popular in the US than One Piece.

Anyway what you can do is in a constructive manner (Caps, and screaming is not constructive.) post why (Not "Because it's awesome.) you think they should air it. Also by getting rid of something do you mean Bleach? It would put a big toll on the anime budget to have two shows with 200+ episodes. Bleach prevents them from getting as much shows as they could due to the costs to keep and get more episodes.

God I'm glad you're not in charge of AS.  Then they wouldn't have any anime at all.  In fact they'd be bankrupt...

One Piece has never gotten "AWESOME" ratings on American TV.  You don't know that it will get awesome ratings so don't assume that it will.

Which is a big reason why I suggested trying 50 some episodes as it wouldn't cause as huge of problems if they got all 205 currently dubbed episodes.

Guys, I think it's best we just ignore DA's ramblings here. Because the very idea of them taking off the high rated comedies is laughable.

 Respond if he ever makes a sensible post but otherwise don't feed his bad habits.

You're right he shouldn't. DA thinks any show he likes will get great ratings but that's unlikely as his tastes tend to differ greatly from what AS audiences want to see.

The only ratings data we have for One Piece was with kid's demographics, at oldest 9-14. When it was on Toonami it did really well with 9-14 for a time being one of CN's top rated shows with that demographic. And I was looking up some old ratings data for it and saw it was getting around 694,000 with 9-14 and 622,000 with 6-11 and it was #1 in it's time period with boys 9-14 when it was at 9:30PM after Naruto.

And I figure the ratings dropped over time but supposedly the FUNimation episodes were getting better ratings than the last batch of 4kiids episodes. I don't know how good those ratings were.

There's really no telling how well it would do with adults but if we based it on what Bleach pulls in and the fact that the two of them have very compatible fan bases it would likely do well with the viewers who tune in for Bleach... you know... if they're not turned off by how cartoony it is but IMO One Piece is more capatible with Family Guy and American Dad than Bleach is, since One Piece puts a lot of emphasis on comedy. But the filler episodes tend to make it blatant that the show is supposed to be marketed at kids. Perhaps the smoking and the 3 B's (blood, boobs and booze) will be enough for casual observers to get over the fact that it was marketed at kids here but if Kekkaishi can maintain most of Bleach's audience like it did earlier this year I'm sure One Piece could at least do better than that... since it's well... great and Kekkaishi is just kind of okay in comparison.

Content with One Piece is a bit odd.  The fillers and most of the content is family friendly.  Then you have the sexual content being ramped up every arc till you get to Amazon Lily, which is basicallly straight up ecchi.  Oda's been upping the fanservice content in every arc, as well as upping the violence.  In a way it's a bit of brilliance (the manga growing up with the readers), but I'm not sure if that really classifies it as adult, particularly given it's very cartoonish art style.

Then again, Bleach is THE only anime not failing at ratings, so One Piece should theoretically fit right in.
