Really, I'm not a frequent poster, but this is not rocket science. I'm sure plenty of Anime nerds would rage over this because it's not the latest hipster nerdcore anime, I like those too, but for purely a ratings/ business standpoint, they should consider a long term investment in One Piece
Yes, this show has been tried many times to be successful in the American market, and so far has failed twice. In this case 3rd time is the charm! There is a lot of eBuzz on the series, and it is growing more and more popular in the anime community despite not having an airing TV show. There is a lot of hype as to why this has become one of the fastest and best selling comic in Japan, why the show has a regular 10-12million audience over there each, and, best of all, Why is it worth watching and different from the Fox Kids version. It should be noted that the Show failed Twice, but for the same reason each time, 4KiDS. Many people familiar with the show were only familiar with that version despite that CN showed an entire season with the funimation version. I've seen this so many times first hand, it didn't get the ratings it deserved because everyone thought it was business as usual despite the advertisement. In 2011 people know otherwise, they are more curious. The comic has become about as equal in popularity to the Naruto comic in fledgling and anime communities, Naruto, which still is America's most popular Manga! Bringing this attention back to the masses as a new show, as uncut, as something they haven't seen before can explode big.
Adult Swim has no Anime cash cows left. Inuyasha has ended. FullMetal Alchemist is completely over. Bleach is going to continue to go on the down-end of ratings from here on out, I wouldn't be surprised if the anime or comic gets cancelled in the not so distant future, so you should be preparing yourself for that if you haven't. I'm NOT saying drop the show for One Piece, nor am I saying cancel it altogether; but put the shows back to back! Maybe One Piece at 11:30 or 12:30 and wane fans from Bleach into enjoying both, such that it's an easy transfer when it ends. No other long running series has the potential to bring in as much capital as one piece just because of how short they are. 56 episodes will come and go in a year, 2-3 years on a stretched with breaks schedule.
If you air the funimation version from the beginning, from where cartoon network left off, or where ever funimation wants you to start, you will be in a good position to build up momentum. There are enough episodes done to marathon the show and more if you start from the beginning, and the show seems like it can continue on for another decade. If a long running show is what you want, something to draw Inuyasha and Bleach fans, this is your show. If you want to have a show Teenagers can watch and kids that shouldn't be watching watch without having anything overly controversial this is the show! If you want something that probably will never rate higher than a coveted TV-14 rating, this is your show!
Comedy, Action, Drama, Long Running, International Success, potentially a bargain bin license fee. No Matter what other programs you might air in the short run, Gurren Lagann, Blood-C, Blue Exorcist, Deadman Wonderland, (All great shows and choices) etc. I'd run to chase down One Piece, put it on TV, and wait for the money to roll in as it's fanbase will probably explode after each season. I say this as a tip with love to [as], but really to say "no" to this now, when things are starting to turn around, would be a missed opportunity of carrier ending proportions. Buy it while people still believe it is an American Failure, you won't regret it.
