From the people who brought you Evangelion, FLCL and Gurren Lagann comes this new, messed up series in a style highly original for anime.  After so many western animators have borrowed styles from Japan (i.e. Teen Titans, Avatar, etc.) it seems Japan is returning the favor with an anime that has a more Americanized sense of humor (immature and otherwise) and somewhat more of a cartoony style.  It's like Powerpuff Girls meets Bo-BoBo.  Looks like a perfect fit for Adult Swim, amirite?

Interview with Yoh Yoshinari and Atsushi Nishigori about Panty & Stocking was published in Chara-Mel Febri magazine. Some new info:

-Yoshinari did conceptual design, Nishigori did the finalized character design.
-The cartoony style was chosen to allow for super-violent and stylish action sequence without losing some sort of twisted cuteness.
-The whole Gurren-Lagann animation team is involved: Sushio, Chikashi Kubota, Akira Amemiya, Tadashi Hiramatsu, Shouko Nakamura, Takashi Mukouda...
-Yoh Yoshinari is trying too do as many big action sequences as he can.
-Even if action sequences are the main dish, there is some sort of story going on in the background, as well. Panty & Stocking are supposed to be "angels", but they have problems with the bosses at "Heaven". Panty & Stocking's "Heaven" is a "blissful and peaceful" place filled with politeness, rules and pretending. Panty & Stocking are characters are extremely honest and don't go around "pretending" just for politeness: if Panty thinks someone is hot, she won't go around bull**werd**ing her way by claiming she likes him for his personality and will just tell him that she wants to fuuuuuudge him; if Stocking thinks someone is being annoying, she won't quietly ignore it, she will make sure, usually by force, that whoever is being annoying stops being annoying. Why hasn't "Heaven" gotten rid of them? Because they're some of the strongest angels around and they need them to fight against the monsters called "Ghosts" that "Hell" is sending to terrorize Earth.
-They managed to get a broadcaster that promised them to let them do whatever they wanted with no censorship whatsoever. The show will begin its run in October 2010.

Panty & Stocking info from NewType

26 episodes long... except they're 12 minute episodes. The show will be aired as 13 blocks of 24 minutes with 2 episodes each. Staff and summaries for the first four episodes, aka: the first two blocks:

Episode 1: Ruthless Elimination
People are being eaten by a Ghost while in the bathroom. Panty & Stocking have to go into the nasty Daten City sewers to find this Ghost and destroy it.

Panty & Stocking have to fight against a gang of cycling Ghosts in a race of death.

Panty & Stocking infiltrate a school to discover the secret of the disappearing students.

Seriously i hope that this is at least considered to be picked up by Adult Swim although it most likely won't be.

This is the anti-Adult Swim show.  Everything Kimmeh hates and fears is on this.

I dunno she probably would like that it features strong willed young women as the heroes.

Doesn't seem all that fanservicey despite being a Gainax show but the use of underwear as weapons is probably enough. I distinctly remember Codename: Kids Next Door getting away with that though.

It's about a sex-crazed blonde and a goth lolita and it's all done to be some sort of sick combination of Powerpuff Girls and Dead Leaves.

And GIR is there too.  The preview comics are depraved enough on their own.

Gainax has said mutiple time that Action will be the shows main focus, unless you think that's "depraved" too. Frankly i don't see what's so much more depraved than what AS already shows anyway. Look at shows like Super Jail and Squid Billies and tell me this is more "depraved" than that!

ANIME is held to the highest of Kim Manning standards.  It's not getting more adult than Kekkaishi types unless you mean endless dialog.

Kekkaishi isn't really the measuring stick you know, right now it's more the exception to the rule among FMA, Bleach which are considerably more violent and darker stories and Bebop and GItS which certainly plenty mature. The show it's most comparable to is Inuyasha but even that is more violent and has good 'ol perverted Miroku in it.

You might get your comedy swim in 2013 when Cleveland shows up and American Dad will be able to air on the weekday strip. Though that's more like FOX Swim but whatever. As for now anime isn't leaving and you're just going to have to deal with that. Kekkaishi and all.

Now that I've seen the first two episodes I can honestly say that even if Kim didn't mind fanservice, Adult Swim wouldn't air this show. The content makes some AS comedies look tame in comparison. Turner S&P would flip.

It would take a miracle to get this on Adult Swim.
