Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Due to the fact that Volume 1 just went on sale, and they're being released roughly every 2 months:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=12120 and see release schedule:

DVD (Region 1)

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (DVD 1) 2012-02-14 (from $39.98)

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (DVD 2) 2012-04-10 (from $29.98)
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (DVD 3)2012-06-12 (from $29.98)

The best time to start airing this would be mid-March if [as] wants to show the whole thing prior to the DVD release of Volume 3:

March 17, 24, 31: Episodes 1-3

April 7, 14, 21, 28: Episodes 4-7

May 5, 12, 19: Episodes 8-10 (Black Dynamite is purported to take over May 26).

June 2, 9: Episodes 11-12

I know what you're thinking: "It's a magical girl series, and would be a terrible fit, bawwwwww...", well it's darker than most magical girl series, and its absurdist art battle sequences with bizarre techno background feel like they'd be at home on [adult swim].  Plus, Kyubey just has [as] written all over him.  So holla back if you agree!

This Saturday Night, on [adult swim]: TOONAMI'S BACK, BlTCHES!! A New Bleach Episode (255) kicks us off at Midnight, followed by the SERIES PREMIERES of Deadman Wonderland at 12:30 and Casshern Sins at 1! Then, we've got 3 back-to-back classics: FMA:B Episode 32 "Fuhrer's Son" at 1:30, followed by GITS: 2nd Gig Episode 17 "Red Data" at 2 and Cowboy Bebop Episode 15 "My Funny Valentine" at 2:30! Also, watch lots of [as] ACTN shows including Durarara!!, The Big O, and more online any time you want at http://video.adultswim.com/action/index.html

Elsewhere: New season of ThunderCats continues Saturday at 9:30 AM on CN! Avatar: The Legend of Korra continues Saturdays at 11 AM on Nickelodeon!

The only way this subversive and unique series is ever going to air on Adult Swim is if Aniplex pays Adult Swim to air it and even then it would probably take a lot of convincing for Adult Swim to even consider it.

Good luck, you're gonna need it.

I'd like to watch the series (more than the clips I've seen) but the price of the DVDs is pretty brutal and I'm going to want to have all of it on hand before I even start watching according to people I've talked to about the series. I really wish Aniplex would stream it like they did with Durarara but so far all they plan to do is stream one episode of the English dub live on Nico Video.

HELPeR for the TOONAMI, Mobile Suit Gundam, Dragon Ball Z, Harvey Birdman and Perfect Hair Forever boards. Feel free to ask me anything on those topics.

I've heard about this series.

I seriously doubt they'll air it but I'm all for them airing it as well.

Just air more anime................... Please?

That would be amazing. This series is amazing. And a really good fit for AS. But Sketch is right that they probably won't air it.

While this show is indeed a masterpiece, I have to agree with Sketchor. This would be a really hard sell for Adult Swim, but I would watch it if they chose to air it.

Pretty much this.  Quality of the show aside, I think it's "too Japanese" if you want to put it simply.

This Saturday night, it's a heavyweight collision! Newly crowned UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos, fresh off of his 1st round knockout victory over Cain Velasquez on Fox, returns to the Octagon to battle submission specialist Frank Mir in an all heavyweight card! Cain attempts to bounce back from his devastating loss against Brazilian wrecking machine Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva! Plus, Jason "Mayhem" Miller returns on the FX Prelim show to battle CB Dolloway! The action starts 8pm on FX and 10pm on PPV! I mean, what the hell else would you watch?

I think the protagonist being a young girl is pretty much all that's required for Adult Swim not to touch it. They generally steered clear of shows with female protagonists. InuYasha is the only major example of one that was successful on Adult Swim for a time and you can argue that had plenty of InuYasha himself slicing through demons and he was equally the protagonist.

I'm not sure why so many people say it's even a decent fit for Adult Swim much less a good one. Is it because it's subversive and artsy like Adult Swim Action tries to be at times?

But I can't judge this show for it's merrits based on anything but the good things I've heard of it and I aim to change that but I haven't been able to watch it yet. Aniplex US isn't exactly making this as easy to watch as say Blue Exorcist or Durarara. Though that probably would benefit a potential broadcast of the show due to it having less open exposure in the US.

But really guys I don't see it happening. Why would Adult Swim pick up a show that subverts the magical girl genre? Even if they ignore that hook and are interested in it for other reasons I just don't see them going for it despite the uniqueness. Maybe a few years back they'd have gone for it but they play things a lot safer with acquisitions these days. And if they did get it I would be shocked if it didn't bomb or at least do worse than Durarara and Adult Swim doesn't need another anime that doesn't bring home the bacon right now.

A show doesn't necessarily have to be bad to be a bad fit for a block. Good shows don't get on the block, and POS's like Kekkaishi do. Is Spice and Wolf a bad show? Most would say no. Would it sink like a #### luxury liner after hitting an iceberg? YES.

In Madoka's case, the show has aspects that make it an ill fit for the block, but not a bad show. That's all.

Actually, Madoka IS getting a stream weekly ("new" episodes on Wednesdays) on Crunchyroll (subtitles only).  [as] needs something to buy time before Final Act might hit in August, and if Aniplex is willing to pay to get the dub on the air like they ostensibly did with Durarara!!, [as] might premiere it in the 1 AM timeslot after FMA:B (but not after Bleach).

It wasn't until after I said that and believe me I'm thrilled to hear it.

I almost felt a moment of weakness leading to piracy... oh the shame!

But now that it's only 1 episode a week I think I'll wait until it's all up on Crunchyroll because it's one of those shows I'll want to marathon straight through.

How do I afford anime?

I have a job and beyond paying the rent and other bills I make enough money to buy some anime on occasion.

But nowadays I watch anime on Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll to avoid buying every thing that even remotely interests me because I already have too many DVDs of cartoons (not mostly Japanese) to ever finish watching them all.

It's about 15 bucks a month for both which is much cheaper than buying even one anime box set that isn't on some crazy sale.

I don't typically pay for both at the same time.

First I tried Crunchyroll but found I didn't use it that often so I cancelled and got Netflix instead.

Crunchyroll has free streams as well so I don't have to pay the 6.99 membership fee every month to watch most of the shows on there.

I only momentarily had both. I could afford both but I don't need both.

Netflix has over 100 dubbed anime for me to watch and if I'd rather watch any of those subtitled then they are probably on Hulu.

And I watch a lot of America shows so I rarely make time to sit and watch an anime. Only when I find one I am very enthused about watching and that seems to happen less and less.

Maybe by the time all of Modaka is on Crunchyroll I'll re-up my subscription to watch it in HD because it has great animation from what I hear but more than likely I will be content with watching it with lower video quality on CR or Hulu.

Netflix just happened to be the one chosen.

We work for it. Also, do you have any idea how much money you could earn with a full-time job paying much more than minimum wage? About $40,000 a year. Take out bills and everything, and you're left with maybe a few thousand dollars.

Netflix suits your preferences much better than Crunchyroll. CR only has a small amount of dubs. All of those dubs are free to watch I believe.

It's probably only for the DVD option and not the streaming option.

Well getting DVDs on Netflix instead of streaming would solve that problem for you. As would buying it.

Look how cheap these sets are now.

16.99, 17.49, 21.99, 17.49 and only one 34.98 or you could buy them used for cheaper. For around 100 dollars you can buy all 153 episodes of Dragon Ball. That's less than a dollar an episode. That's dirt cheap.

Z is on Hulu dubbed and by the time you get through Dragon Ball probably all of DBZ will be on Hulu.

Yes I know you're going to say you don't have the money but for the price of 2 new 59.99 games you could have all of Dragon Ball. That's very affordable.

Of course you could just start with the first 30 episodes for 17 bucks rather than buy them all at once. That'll last you 15 weeks at a rate of watching 2 episodes a week.

If you really want to watch Dragon Ball again there's ways of doing it. I think you just don't want it enough.

HELPeR for the TOONAMI, Mobile Suit Gundam, Dragon Ball Z, Harvey Birdman and Perfect Hair Forever boards. Feel free to ask me anything on those topics.
