One Piece is by far the best show not airing on US television and Adult Swim could remedy that. It is tremendously successful in Japan and in various other parts of the world and both the manga and the DVDs are selling pretty well here. It had a rough start on US television due to some unfortunate circumstances but with the current FUNimation dub which is entirely uncut with over 200 episodes in the can as we speak One Piece is ready to take the current young adult generation by storm. Adult Swim has seen a lot of success from Inuyasha, Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist and One Piece is entirely cut from the same clothe. The ensemble cast is entertaining and each story arc is more thrilling than the last. Admittedly it does start out a bit slow but it ramps up quickly and right now it is simply unmatched in the shounen genre. That's just an opinion but sales and ratings in Japan speak volumes. The series outsells Harry Potter for pete sake.

I've heard all the arguments, most of which aren't very good. People say One Piece is too immature for Adult Swim but that's hardly the case when Adult Swim plays Bleach, Kekkaishi and Inuyasha. It's at least as mature as those shows if not more so at points. One Piece does have a cheery exterior but it doesn't skip on gritty bloody violence getting a TV-14 rating here. It IS a kid's show but so are Bleach, Kekkaishi and Inuyasha and since there's no problem airing those why not play the best shounen anime out there? The ratings will speak for themselves. If Adult Swim truly wants a show that will interest the Bleach audience then One Piece is the ideal pairing for it. With a steady time slot One Piece could very well surpass Bleach in the ratings.

200+ episodes in the can means Adult Swim could air the show without rerunning a single episode for two years or more though an hour block or a weekday airing would be better given the massive episode count that is still growing.

One Piece desperately needs a TV deal to reach the audience Naruto and Bleach have been able to in the US and Adult Swim could make it happen. If you're going to play any anime it ought to be One Piece because as far as shounen action goes it's the best Japan has to offer.

One Piece had its chance and royally blew it. It is DEAD in the US. DEAD! Dead as disco, dead as the US anime fandom. Dead.

The sad shell that remains of ASA should have a few non-shounen's on it. It's not Toonami and everyone needs to stop pretending it is such. If that's what's it's going to devolve into, you're better off firing everyone involved with anime and just airing King of the Hill on Saturdays.

So in conclusion, there is no place for One Piece (of failed TV) on Adult Swim.

heard a rumor that Toei was talking to [as] about something.... and also heard that Funimation constantly offers it to them.

You know that crappy 4kids dub actually got pretty good ratings. Better than what CN's shows get these days. And the FUNimation dub saw an improvement on those ratings but at that point Cartoon Network was so done with anime for whatever reason that they hung even Naruto out to dry which was a ratings smash hit which maintained strong ratings into the filler season.

If it's so dead in the US then why does it do well on Hulu and FUNimation's website? Why do the DVDs sell? Why does the manga sell? The fact that both the DVDs and manga sell completely contradicts your theory that the franchise is dead in the US. It is however struggling because it's difficult to get a lengthly series to sell if it has no exposure on television.

Nothing can be Toonami and nothing should be Toonami but if they're going to play shounen they ought to play One Piece. And shounen does well. Kekkaishi made the top 3 beating King of the Hill and 1 of the airings of Boondocks, Inuyasha, FMA and Bleach have already proven their success.

I'd rather see Adult Swim air more mature anime yes but s.crew it, One Piece is magnificent and I fully believe it would do well with their target audience. 

And hey... it's more likely than you think.

I thought we established that small hardcore fan grops (all 4 of you) don't count for jack in AS ratings, which is why Death Note bombed, Geass bombed, Moribito, etc...

The show is dead.  TV executives will not touch it, and they are right not to.  And like I said, better King of the Hill rule Saturdays than a lame shounen block form.

Oh my god, YES! Even if you don't like One Piece, which I do, it really is more of a stepping block to reviving the almost dead Anime-side of Adultswim! If they aired this, it would be incredible! I totally Cosign, and will spread the word to all the sites I can.

if put at the right time... and targeted to a teenage audience... One Piece can work.

heck just because [as] is getting the 9pm time in 2011... doesnt mean that the possibility of them & CN joining up and using the 8pm - 10pm time as a join venture into another demo couldnt happen.

of course that's just hope. and if that doesnt happen... what other show is there for 9pm? The Simpsons? that would cost a bit and could easily bomb. why take a more expensive risk when one piece is right there?

You have a point with Death Note and Geass but One Piece is in every way more like Bleach, Inuyasha and FMA than those two bombs. Moribito didn't even have buzz from otaku so that's not the least bit comparable.

Again One Piece is not dead. It's struggling but it is not dead. Sales speak volumes. One Piece still sells without TV. It would sell better with it. The ratings could top Bleach or at least be as good as Bleach.

I'm all for AS playing more mature anime though. They should do that as well but along with that by all means play One Piece.

The slippery **snarf** of shounen stupidity was opened wide with Bleach, and went further with Kekkaishi (a terrible show which I still hope fails catastrophically). If the block is to avoid further fail the proverbial buck has to stop here. One Piece is a kids show. A failed kids show. The company was 4-Kids. For children. If you're going to go that far, why not just air pro wrestling? Ring of Honor reruns from HDnet might appeal to adults.

well... 4Kids thought they could market it to kids... did a fairly good job. of course Funimation has its hands on it now.....

right now... Shounen is the best for [as]. FMA:Brotherhood. Kekkaishi. Bleach. & more then likely Inuyasha: FA will all be on [as] and be pulling in decent ratings.

sure Kekkaishi's first episode didnt make it to the top 3. but it's 2nd did. and sure i dislike the series right now (trying to hold out till later as many have said it gets better)

but shounen's were its at. and if Kekkaishi can pull in around 300k ratings... One Piece surely can and do really good for the block.

You keep calling it a failure but it wasn't. Not on Toonami anyway. It didn't do well on Saturday mornings but that very same dub crappy as it was did well on Toonami for years.

What part of the DVDs and manga sell well do you not understand?

You've just lost all reason at this point in your new found pass time of trying to get Adult Swim to throw anime out entirely. Really man why can't you just ignore the shows you don't like? I know I do and always have.

Shounen shouldn't have to air on Adult Swim but it does and it does well. It has proven the most successful for Adult Swim anime and those ratings are solid. Especially Inuyasha at it's height.

You're completing losing this argument by not offering evidence toward your point that shounen does badly on Adult Swim  so do us all a favor and preach your way of thinking elsewhere.

Though to anyone saying One Piece isn't a kid's show, stop fooling yourself. It's a kid's show but Adult Swim has always played kid's shows and if the content makes it worth while its not within reason for them to play more.

Exactly. One Piece would do great if it had another shot. Second chances are rare in television and I'm aware of that but One Piece is absolutely worth the chance.

It would be no different really. FUNimation has pitched One Piece to Adult Swim already all that's left is for them to take the bite and the same can be said for a lot of shows.

However, there's hundreds of episodes of One Piece that would be entirely new to US audiences and given the old 4Kids dub and the current FUNimation one are as different as night and day you could consider those previously aired episodes new. If not new to people who caught them on Toonami then new to all the people who didn't.

I would wager One PIece has more 18+ appeal than Kekkaishi does. Since it has older characters, plenty of violence and swearing in the dub. All things that tend to appeal to the 18+ casual audience as far as anime is concerned.

somedude used to be pro anime but he's off his rocker these days or so it would seem. Hopefully he comes to his senses again some day.
