Also by hardcore otaku, I think you're referring to the weeaboos and otaku close to the point of weeaboodom, or also the Japanese moe-otaku. Not to mention the corrupt R1 anime fans. DA is prime example of a corrupt R1 fan.

well, i suppose so lol. normal also meaning "people who don't rely only on anime for entertainment". i, for one definitely don't. in fact, i think i've really scaled down the amt of anime i watch. i used to watch a ton. now, i just read the weekly/monthly manga, and if there's a good anime, i might watch that. now i'm more into football ('tis hard to be a Baltimore Ravens fan at the same time).

Well with me, I'm watching like 5 some episodes of anime every day. Though it's many shows at once. I mean look at this.

As for anime being what I rely on, I also have manga and video games, but that's pretty much it these days.

As for R1, I just use that to refer to North America. R2 I use for Japan. Comes with talking about both the Japanese and NA industries I guess.

So, if the American market collapsed, and we just had Blu-ray box imports for about $350 subbed-only, would you then be watching more subs than dubs as none would be produced afterwards?

Your actions pretty much are causing companies to not dub. Why dub at all when people are just going to steal it, and you probably will lose money off of making a dub?

oh, so the R stands for "Region". i see. 

i have video games to rely on as well (sometimes), though its dummed down since i entered college. manga's been my main thing these days.

It hasn't, but we've seen companies collapse/have financial problems, and less dubs being made as a result. Remember Bandai Ent. and Media Blaster's situations in January? More and more shows are being released limited-edition and subbed-only compared to years ago.

Why is this happening you ask? Well part of it has to go with anime going down in price (They're making less money despite it being cheaper.). Another part is piracy. You have all these people not buying shows, no matter how much they loved them. They'll just go out and buy $60 PS3 games, and don't see the point in buying anime, and in turn, companies are having less faith in anime, and seeing less of a point in releasing it. I foresee the industry collapsing completely in 10 years if things don't change. After that, all we'll get is subbed-only Blu-ray imports, meaning everything getting the Garden of Sinners and Fate/Zero treatment. $300+ imports that contain English subtitles, but that won't be too much of a problem for me, even though I'll have to choose what I want to get as I wouldn't be able to get everything.

People like you are the reason R1 is struggling so much, so how about you do us a favor, and change your ways. You know, try to buy at least one S.A.V.E. release from FUNimation every few months, or watch legal streams instead of pirating the #### out everything.

Though if the market collapses, I don't want to hear excuses from you as you didn't do anything to help it.

Adam Warren made a manga, known as The Dirty Pair, which is essentially his re-imagining of the series. Adam never directed any anime, OVAs, or movies.

Wah? But the second one is all about how dub haters are unjustified. Seems right up your alley.

Well if you wont watch them then here's the short of the long.

Anime isn't doing that great in Japan much less America. Anime has lost key time slots in Japan to live-action programming so more shows are ending up in late night slots. Time slots later than Adult Swim's occasional 1AM anime premieres.

They are becoming more reliant on the American distributors forking over those licensing fees to help break even much less make money.

So now more than ever for the sake of both the industry in the US, Japan and even world wide it's important that fans support the industry however they can. Watching legal streams suffices for those who don't have the money to buy DVDs or other official merchandise.

If we do not support the industry as it tries earnestly to be as efficient at battling piracy as possible then we are dooming ourselves to world with less and less anime every year.

We can't point our fingers at the companies trying to appease the fans nor the television networks that no longer have interest in airing a bunch of Japanese cartoons they don't own any part of. We have to be self sufficient instead of being a bunch of overly entitled whiners who complain about what we are not paying for.

Convention attendence continues to rise while sales continue to drop. We've long established a fandom in which you can be a fan without giving even a little bit of support to the people who created these shows we enjoy much less the ones that make them more available in America than ever before. We're quite frankly spoiled by fansubs and the ability to pirate even dubbed anime with remarkable ease because the internet makes it all possible. But we have to discipline ourselves to not eat from that tree of the knowledge of good and evil just because it's there or we'll be the makers of our own demise.
