This Day in Space Ghost History

On August 14, 1998, the episode "Toast," which was written by Matt Harrigan, Pete Smith and Dave Willis, aired for the first time. It features the return of guest Merrill Markoe, who had previously flustered SG in "Zoltran" and is back again because he has somehow convinced himself that he is in love with her. Somehow he also thinks he should get dating advice from Moltar, Zorak and guest Adam Carolla, which works out about as well as you would expect. (At least he doesn't take his shirt off and chase her around.)

This episode can be found on: The 1998 Episodes DVD

Great thread idea, Majik.

I'll try to watch some of these episodes and post discussion. I haven't Made My Own DVD to cover the last several episodes yet, but I have the first five volumes.

Question for the group:
Was this Space Ghost episode the high point in Adam Carolla's career?

Thank you, coaster.

As for your question, I can honestly say I haven't monitored Adam Carolla's career very closely, but I can't imagine anything on his resume being half as cool as his appearance on this show.

In honor of today's episode I present these two icons that anybody can use freely. They are 80x80 and are good for use on ASMB.

Here they are, they are the CGI video-game-looking figures that Moltar had on his screen:

If you want to upload them to your Image Gallery, be sure to name it something descriptive like this:

Video Game Moltar - SGC2C #59 "Toast"
Video Game Space Ghost - SGC2C #59 "Toast"

On August 15, 1997, the episode "Zoltran," which was written by Matt Harrigan and "Alan Laddie" (the pseudonym used when the whole writing staff wound up tinkering with a script), aired for the first time. The guests are Robin Leach, who turns out to be Zoltran, Moltar's brother-in-law, and Merrill Markoe, who flusters SG something fierce with her probing questions. (How interesting, then, that it comes right on the heels of "Toast," in which he had her back on with the intent to woo her.) Zorak and Moltar go into their "Blah diddy blah" routine and Zorak eats musical guest Bananrama. Sorcerer, the trumpet player in the Original Way-Outs, speaks for the first time, and Puff the Magic Dragon puts in an appearance. And Moltar watches a clip from Cartoon Planet and wonders why he's not in it.

This episode can be found on: Volume Three

Question for the group:

Does Space Ghost know any of his personal data at all (where he is, how old he is, whether or not he's dead), or is he too self-conscious to reveal the truth?
Also, Space Ghost mentioned buying a blender. I don't have one. What does that make me?

Icon of the day (free for everyone's use): Magic Dragon

If you're going to use it on ASMB image gallery be sure to name it something descriptive like this:

I wouldn't say he's too self-conscious. He probably just got dropped on his head too many times during his many space battles.

Also, Space Ghost mentioned buying a blender. I don't have one. What does that make me?
A man who cannot blend things, obviously.

You're right, I am in need of a margarita.  Good call.

More questions:  Has anybody thought about what Moltar's home life might be like?  His wife is Linda and his brother-in-law is Zoltran.  Who wants to write the fanfiction?

On August 21, 1998, the episode "Lawsuit," which was written by Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer, aired for the first time. The premise: Space Ghost's cast-off sidekicks Jan and Jace are suing him for back wages, mental cruelty, emotional distress and arrested development, and they've hired his old foe, Dr. Nightmare (Attorney at Law!) to do the job. Guest Greta Van Susteren offers Tad some legal advice and Dorkin and Dyer throw in the usual array of pop culture references: fizzy-lifting drinks, the Wonder Twins, I'm Not Rappaport and Dawson's Creek. And there are callbacks to some of the guests that SG has blasted over the years -- plus the entire country of France. If he ever had to make amends, that could take a little while.

On August 22, 1997, the episode "Pilot," which was written by Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer, aired for the first time. It shows us what could have been if only Birdman hadn't required the rays of the sun to function (which kind of begs the question, what did he dod on his action show when it got cloudy out? And was he really completely useless at night?) As first Birdman Coast to Coast has Lokar as its bandleader (sorry, musical arranger), but after one 50-cent word-laden quip too many Birdman sets Avenger on him and, well, it's a good thing the director had back-up bug Zorak on standby.

This episode can be found on: Volume Three

For all you icon fans, here's one of Lokar at the keys:

60 - "Lawsuit"

Nyaaah, good one Jace!

Zorak: "That's my sound effect! I'm suing!"
Moltar: "Me too! I don't have any lines in this show!"

I also love the multi-split screen going on when Dr. Nightmare, Jan, Jace, Mrs. Van Susteren, and Zorak were all arguing."

Question for the group:
Certainly you, too have claims against Space Ghost you'd like to take to court. What charges would you like to be filed?

Icons of the Day:
Dr. Nightmare is already available as an avatar on the forums.

Here we have another Space Ghost pose, as well as Jan, Jace, and Blip.

As always, if you want to use these in your image gallery on the boards, name it something descriptive.
Example: Character Name - SGC2C - #60 "Lawsuit"

I have abandonment issues (he just up and left my TV screen without telling me where he was going or when he would be back), but I don't know whether that's lawsuit material.

I saw Space Ghost crossing the street in the middle of the block, and I have pics to prove it.

That's jaywalking, Space Ghost. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

I then began wondering why he didn't just inviso across the street.

39 - Pilot

I feel like I've seen "Pilot" like a billion times.

Question for the group:
Were Moltar and Zorak still Space Ghost's slaves even though they were working on the Birdman show? Was "Birdman: Coast to Coast" just a devious attempt by Space Ghost to discredit his fellow superhero?

Icon of the Day: Majik already did one upthread, and I won't dare try to upstage him =P:

Well, as "Rehearsal" showed us, Zorak and Moltar were only "acting" the part of Space Ghost's prisoners.

Perhaps they are such poor actors that they need to be instructed to act like prisoners on the show, even when they already are prisoners.
