My problem with Superjail.

When it comes to the animation, its briliant but storytelling-wise its very thin.sure there were a couple of episodes that had a good story innit like the Bar,the little cancer girl or the Time Police and they were always the better episodes and the ones like the terrarium(?) and in particular the gruesome killer guy episode just kinda of wondered off into plain animation wanking.Alot of adult swim shows proves that you can fit a good story in an 10 minute episode even if the story is a complete mindscrew,i felt that alot of the episodes of Superjail were just kind of showcases of the art medium and no real backstory and i kinda wanted a better story behind the exciting visuals.

I'm hoping that season 2 will have  better episodic storylines

Stoked on the DVD release, though i'm gonna have to wait till April when it comes to Australia.

if i didn't make sense..well its 10pm over here right now and i dont feel like thinking.

p.s this is my opinion so any negative feedback is welcomed but i'm not changing my mind.

p.p.s i forgot what's the proper term of "story" and the name of the episodes, its 10pm over here right now and i dont feel like thinking.

I would agree that the plots are kind of simple and formulaic, but I think they're trying. And, I think that's exactly the kind of thing [as] is giving them a hard time about. So next season it should be better (if next season is gonna happen).

i agree with you 55,they are trying and sometimes they pull it off really well.If next season does happen (seems pretty likely) I can only hope aswell that it gets better.

On the contrary, I think the charm of the show is in its simplicity. There's a sort of whimsical and primitive feel to the show and I think any deeper plots would just distract from that.

Jackson Publik co-creator/writer for the venture brothers said on his personal blog that he was helping out the superjail guys with scripts for the next season. hopefully this will improve the plot of future episodes. i can't wait.

venture bros is amazing with a very convoluted story with deep character development. and that is something that the warden is lacking. sure we know that his dad was mean and was the warden of a jail as well, but thats about it. i agree that the brilliance of the show lies within its simplicity and the primal vicarious violence that we all seem to have fallen in love with. but if the show maybe filled a thirty minute time slot instead of a fifteen minute one, we would have time for advancements in the show, and the credits wouldnt come so soon.:robotsad:

It's meant to be simple.
Look at the simplicity of the drawing STYLE. It's got a "Simple Style". But buried in there is some CRAZY meaning. You're just watching a story line. Watch the CHARACTERS. Characters are a representation of a person or thing from real life, and in comedy, it's just STRETCHING the truth a little.

I bought the DVD despite the negative reviews because it's well...Superjaii

It seems less stream of concious like the first season and more like Simpsons style pacing.

The warden has lost his diaoblical spirit and the show seems lukewarm now.

I remember being blown away by the psychedellic underwater scene in the first season.

That kind of stuff is nowhere to be found.  I don't regret the purchase, because I'm such a sucker for the

show.   Maybe it will grow on me with repeated viewings.

I have to agree.

Though i have written this quite a while ago (in 2008 apparently?) my stance with this show still stands, though i have bought the Superjail DVD regardless (Season 2 has yet to be released locally here)  its still a good show.

I dunno,  some people say the charm is in its simplicity, and well thats fine, i like simple shows, most Adult Swim shows are simple to a T. However with the premise that Superjail has been created in, I felt it had a great oppotunity to get a little more deep and I suppose intricate into the characters and the storytelling, something that Metalocalypse (albeit Season 3 had more time to do so), Delocated (ditto for S2), Frisky Dingo and definetly Moral Orel has done.  It seems to have taken the road of Squidbillies where "heres a 10 minute nonsensical plot of something with exaggerated sexual and violence overtones" which is fine, i like that, but i find the most memorable shows are the ones that have put some effort into the story, and overrall I reckon Superjail had a chance to go that far.

I still watch the show regardless, i love the animation.
