Is it me or is The Big O underrated?

While it's not one of my all time favorite anime, it's fairly good. I feel it's fairly underrated for some reason. Does anyone else here feel the same? It has a lot of action, a good storyline, cool humor, and very likeable characters like Roger Smith and R. Dorothy Wayneright.

considering it was a toonami anime, then on midnight run, then one of the 1st anime's on [as] its not, it was played at decent times, and it was on weekdays for years

Even in the realm of anime, Big O seems like an acquired taste. Perhaps it's the western style elements, or some of the cornier battle quips? Or the confusing nature of the ending? I'm not sure why, but I've met many people who enjoy giant mecha but find some exception with Big O. I've never had a girlfriend that enjoyed watching the series with me, either. I'm perplexed, but it's never really harmed my appreciation of the series. I realize that it must have performed decently in the past to merit the production of Season 2, but it was not a resounding success or we'd have had a Season 3 already.

It's a great show, yes, but it is quite different from a lot of anime. Unfortunately, I believe it'll always be doomed to be a "cult" classic, which isn't bad, but it does have a pretty final ending :smileysad:

About time to go back and re-watch it, methinks.

Immoral behavior...

One thing that makes it very different is the animation style, it looks similiar to that of an American cartoon. If only I could get my hands on the season 1 box set, then I could finally see season 1.:smileysad:

I kind of know what you mean. The idea behind the show having to do with people carrying on w/o their memories was put together well. They should have at least been nominated for an award or given good reviews in magazines.

As noted in the other thead: Big-O may not get the followign of other series because one has to think to fully appreciate it.
