I reason I brought up the Davinci Code it that it talks about the sacred feminine. The idea that god is separated into both genders ( a ying-yang scenario). At the end of Big O, Big O and Big Venus fuse representing the true escence of God. Any thoughts?

You ever read Kafka's "The Metamorphisis"?  It reminds me of Big O.  Dark, confusing, full of symbols only a drunk German could possibly understand.  Anyway, I just get more and more lost the more I learn about the show.  I don't understand how they lost their memmories, if it ever gives any hints.  The ending made me even more lost.  It's all some sort of Virtual reality, Matrix sort of thing?  Who is real in this show?  What is real?  As is the metamorphisis, Big O seems full of symbolism, but short a bit in overall story.  This is why I failed English in High School.

Well, s/he sure isn't talking about the one here on the board; I just read several pages of it, and it's only folks theorizing like we here...some good ideas, though.

Metamorphosis- isn't that a book of myths where people change? I think Bacchus and Philemon is one of the storys included, at the end of their story they are changed into intwinded trees. I doubt it's the same book. Anyways symbolism is everywhere, you just need to know for what to look.

You're confusing Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" (ordinary man wakes up to find himself turned into a giant roach) with Ovid's "Metamorphoses". Ovid's is the mythological one. "Philemon and Baucis" is indeed one of the stories in it, if I recall, along with "Apollo and Daphne" and "Lycaon the Werewolf".

Paradigm City, the eternal puzzle

[ Edited ]

Reply to aeternus_flammus - Message ID#: 4301609

In my opinion Big O way too Japanese for us gaijin. They have funny ways of weaving clues into their anime and shows. Like... uhm... Roger Smith up there said. :smileywink:

"Cast in the name of God, ye not guilty." Taken from the Catholic benediction over medieval executioners. So it could be deduced if you look for discreet clues that have direct meanings, that the megadeus' (megagods) executed our civilization. Destroyed it for some reason. They weren't "cast" or forged in the name of God, they were the instruments of God in Judgement on all mankind? A war of some kind, but why? I see no clues, except that Roger and the others are terrified of what happened 40 years ago. What was so awful?

Perhaps Paradigm City was some laboratory experiment performed by some defense industry to try to restore human civilization using genetic engineering of some of the bigwigs involved in the company, and their families, like the Rosewaters. Does Rosewater signify anything?

But the city has some weird dreamlike qualities to it in the course of the show, so is it real? Or is it a simulation in a virtual reality, a pure experiment in trying to understand human nature? If so, is it important to mankind's survival? Are the Bigs and the other weird things that go on in the show, like the Underground, is this merely an expression of the collective phobias and inner demons of the simulated people? Like our own psychological quirks and barbaric behavior, under the surface of a civilized and hopefully well behaved citizen? A facade over a nightmare, like Paradigm City?

I did my work, copied my post... Sleeepy...

The sad thing about all of this is on the Japanese website for Big-O they out and out tell you that Paradigm city was originally Manhattan which was quite a disappointment simply because it gives the city a location thus somewhat removing any concepts related to the idea that the city is somewhat ethereal rather than a true location in a real world. Though I have to say I truly enjoy the conversation just because I was under the impression that I was the only person who gave Big-O a second thought from its Toonami days till now. It’s strange but Adult Swim is doing nearly everything I would do if I was in charge of programming a station. First Big-O now reviving Family Guy, it’s like they said "Let's go into this guys mind and see what he would do with a station." I can even remember looking back though some old websites I made for a Half-Life clan I led and pondering the meaning of the name Inu-Yasha and it seemed not long after that Adult Swim aired Inu-Yasha. I had even seen a few pictures of Vash thinking they look cool and then it appeared on the air. Now if only they can bring back the Critic, and create an adult oriented Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon we'll be in business.

Attempting to derive meaning from Big O always seems to bring more questions than answers. Perhaps that is its purpose. It would be nice to have an authorative opinion from the creative staff, but much to Big O fan's chagrin, that will probably never happen.

Word from someone who knows one of the voice actors says, that the people who made big o where told to change several things in order to leave the show open for a third season, but then later CN decided that they weren't going to go through with the 3rd season.

It doesn't seem right to purposely make a cliffhanger then decide that you don't really care anymore.

A thrid season sounds fantastic, but there is not much we can do now, since Big O is not airing right now. Purchasing the DVDs could show CN the demand for a third season... To the store!

I think that season one is out in one box set and season 2 is out on 4 seperate DVD's.

Anyway, I don't even want the full 3rd season, just anything that would finish up the story, even a cheap little movie, heck, even a letter from the writers telling me what he was trying to say.

Yeah, a movie would probably be the best out of those ideas.  An entire third season would be okay if it was the final one.  As far as a letter from the writers is concerned...probably not, dude.

Anyway, I tried to join savebigo.com monday, and I have yet to get an email reply to activate my account. Is it something a mod has to do manually?
