This is something that should have been up some time ago, but with me being the only HELPeR in here and twiddling my thumbs for too long, it hasn't happened yet. In the interest of upping the activity level in here, it's well past time to get this thing rolling. So without further ado, consider this the grand opening of the Big O folder wiki project!

For anyone asking, "What the heck is Top Gun talking about?", here's a quick explanation. I'm sure most of you have noticed the individual show pages here on the site, which contain brief character descriptions and episode lists for each of [as]'s current series. When the HELPeR role was first created, we were originally supposed to act as editors of those pages themselves in a semi-wiki format. (For anyone not aware, a wiki is a website which allows for the creation and editing of content by any visitor. Wikipedia is the most famous example.) Unfortunately, due to legal and technical concerns, that role never came to pass, and so the show pages remain static. But fortunately for everyone, our awesome admin SwimHumbug came up with the idea of replicating the wiki concept via threads in the show folders themselves; the HELPeRs would act as general organizers and editors, and everyone would be able to submit content to help build and improve them. And that's where you guys come in: the more help I get, the better the wiki will be as a resource for everyone.

As of right now, I don't have the overall layout of the wiki completely planned out yet, but I can at least give you an idea of how things are going to look. I'll probably have a single floated, locked thread that contains an overview of the wiki and links to other threads that hold the actual wiki contents. Each of these other threads will be dedicated to a particular category of information; they'll all be kept locked, so that random posts don't get mixed in with the show info. This thread will remain open and floated and will serve as the place where anyone can submit new info or edits to get added into the wiki, or else just make suggestions about how to improve it. I'll then append/edit any new submissions into the locked info threads. By setting things up like this, I can limit the floated threads to two, but still keep everything easy to find.

As for the info threads themselves, here are the general areas I've come up with so far:

• Characters: Pretty self-explanatory.  The way I see it working, the first post or two of the thread would contain an index of every character in the series grouped by association (main characters, megadeuses, season 1/2 one-off characters, etc.), maybe with a thumbnail and one-sentence description for each one.  Each of these would link to a full post on the character, which could include full details, the actor who played them, screenshots, and anything else fun.

• Episode Guides: Again, self-explanatory.  Like the characters, I'd have a post or two at the top with the names and brief descriptions of each episode.  They'd link to full posts with a much more in-depth episode summary, screenshots, and whatever else makes sense

• General Info: A grab-bag of anything of a more background sort related to the series.  Things like info about the series' staff and production, soundtrack listings, release information, the prospects of a third season, and any other useful general knowledge would fit in here.   A section about the infamous Big Occident would definitely be fun.

• Manga Info: I haven't read them myself, but Big O received a several-volume manga series spinoff.

• Figurines/Toys: The user g2kmaster made this thread a while back discussing sone of the toys and figurines that have been created for the series.  If he's willing, we could set up a section dedicated to that topic.

• Anything Else: Have a good idea for a new category?  Just post it!

I think that's all I have for the moment. I'll probably go back and edit this original post a bit once  I get some of the more mechanical details worked out. In the meantime, feel free to start talking wiki!

(Oh, and as far as spoilers go, if people are going to be submitting in-depth information about the series, it's probably going to have to wind up including spoilers somewhere by default. Having the whole thread as a mass of blacked-out posts seems kind of silly, so it's probably easier to just allow them. Still, if you are posting in-depth stuff, it'd probably be a good idea to include a note at the top stating what it's about, just as a common courtesy.)

(And yes, before you ask, this is almost a straight copy-and-paste from the post I made about the GITS wiki.  I didn't spend all that time typing it up so I could use it only once. )

How about a section to showcase collectable/promotional items? e.g. domestic and foreign magazines with articles featuring The Big-O, calling cards, production designs for internal distribution only, the Big-O credit card, etc.

I’d advise against displaying cels, since we know they exist merely from viewing season one. Therefore, there is no value-addition by doing so.

It’s a cool gesture to introduce otherwise fabled merchandise. Just my 2 cents.

If you have some information on items like this and were willing to write about it, we could definitely get it in somewhere, whether it's in with the figurines or in its own section.

And cid, the way I see it, any character with a name and an actual purpose belongs in here, so Pero's definitely fair game. I think we'll leave out Random Background Extra #6, though.

also i plan on collecting the big o manga, sometime hopefully soonish, so maybe i can help you out with that afterawhile or something. i flipped threw it artstyle looks cool about the same as the anime, story looks significantly different tho. so im curious.

I'm not sure this belongs in the Wiki thread, but since AS  does own the rights to season 2, if I were to make ringtone length mp3's of some of the music, would it be legal to have them posted here or get permission for it? For AS to be the official home of the show, there just is not a lot of Big O stuff available for download.

I'm not really sure that that would be legally acceptable, to be honest. Officially-provided ringtones have to have the approval of the copyright-holder before being made available, whether they're sold for a price or given away for free. Likewise, for [as] to distribute material like that, they'd presumably have to get permission from whoever holds the copyright on the soundtrack. Remember that Cartoon Network only co-produced the series, and what rights they have may not extend to distributing its actual artistic content. You could try firing off a PM to SwimHumbug, our admin, just to see if he knows the right person to contact about this.

Crap yes I am willing.

Yeah, I am back. Again. These breaks are not because of me loosing interest, but rather because of the apparent slowness of any news reguarding our fave Nippon mecha (next to Mechagodzilla of course ). That plus the daikaiju fandom is one which is quite breakneck. Anyway, back to topic... Yeah, I am willing to set up a section dedicated for such stuff.

As for the new categories, we should defiently have a "history" section. Talking about the production history of Big-O, any importance it could have had in the American Anime Boom, and the mark it has left (if there is any). The DVDs would be a good place to start, along with the old paradigm-city.com site. However, if someone if anyone can find Japanese materials to translate, that would be good. After all, I am itching to find out more about the Chogokin Big-O figure. That was out of the blue man. Bandai had a new line up and canceled it. Max Factory had a line and canceled it, and then all of a sudden we were blessed from Chogokin a full metal Big-O figure. I would like to know the buisness details about that.

And in reguards to the manga, some may find it cool that while I do not have the thick volumes like you can buy off of say Amazon.com, I do own the individual issues which are no bigger than maybe an American issue of "The Incredible Hulk" or something of the sort. So cover scans and such may be in order.

Anyway, that is all the things I can really talk about now. School is in accouple of hours so my brain is basicaly dead. XP

It'll be great to incorporate whatever you can offer, and I think that the other suggestions you made would be good stuff too, though some of them are topics I don't know much about personally. I'm on vacation at the moment, but as soon as I get back, I'm going to sit myself down and start a rewatch of the series, and then finally get working on the structure of this wiki.

Hey guys. Since I'm new to the forums and can't make a new thread about this, I thought this would be the best place. It's been 7 years now since The Big O Official Guide was published. What all has already been translated? I found that Paradigm-City.com had the epilogue from the work-in-progress Act 26 script. That's all that I've found so far, but I didn't want to skim the entire AS and PC forums in search of what google couldn't find. Thought I'd just ask the veterans here, since they probably know by heart already, and any info gleamed from the book should really make its way to the wiki. Thanks in advance.

R. Dorothy Wayneright Bio

(with first time watchers in mind, yes?)

Dorothy is a mysterious girl that Roger meets on his job in the first episode of The Big O.  Roger is contracted to a Mr. Waynright, the girl's supposed Grandfather.  She seems to be low-key, demure, but not afraid to speak her mind, and not quite what she seems.

Once the job is finished, she is left with no other option than to live with her rescuer from the danger of the negotiation on the behest of her Grandfather.  Roger Smith makes her wear black.  She actually likes colorful outfits.  Dorothy sings, but is silent, for dramatics... which is nice... but also sadly means we never get to hear her singing voice.  Such a tragic, missed opportunity this was, a rare mistake in Big O.  Still, Dorothy is a very beloved character, and has her own fan club floated in this very folder.

R. Dorothy Wayneright is the female lead of The Big O, and Roger's partner in battle, and perhaps in business as well.  Pleasure too?  Hard to say, but stay tuned.  The Big O, and Dorothy, will not disappoint you, my friends.

Okay, Top_Gun, I finally watched all of Big O. I've seen most of it before, but never in order and I always would seem to miss an episode. But in honor of my finishing this series, I decided to write up a character biography. I hid everything under a spoiler bar. You can be the judge as to which parts are spoilers and which are not. Feel free to correct anything that I may have messed up.

Alex Rosewater

Alex Rosewater is the chairman of Paradigm Corporation, the organization that operates Paradigm City. He apparently has absolute authority over Paradigm City, including its military police. Rosewater is not a particularly benevolent dictator, as he does not appreciate the less privileged Paradigm citizens who live outside the domes, and while attempting to fulfill his megalomania, he seems not to care about the collateral damage he causes.

Alex is the son of Gordon Rosewater, who is said to be the founder of Paradigm City. Alex becomes more interested in gaining greater power, thanks to Gordon Rosewater's apocalyptic book Metropolis, and (as Dan Dastun recalls) the Book of Revelation. He becomes fascinated with megadeuses, and develops a particular interest in Roger Smith's piloting of Big O. He believes that a megadeus dominus is doing the work of God. In his quest for power, Alex contracts with a foreign entity called the Union to deliver lost megadeus parts to Paradigm City.

Alex and his associates begin reconstructing a megadeus called Big Fau, which he intends to use to destroy Paradigm City and become the god of a new society. Alex betrays his contract with the Union and orders the military police to capture its members, which prompts the Union to attempt to destroy Paradigm City with their own megadeus. Alex activates Big Fau and easily defeats the Union megadeus, however Big Fau stopped functioning during its confrontation with Roger Smith and Big O because it lacked the memories necessary to continue. Alex sends Jason Beck on a mission to capture Dorothy, whose memories are sufficient to fully activate Big Fau.

Alex and Big Fau are eventually defeated by Big O's Final Stage, and removed from existence by Big Venus.

Michael Seeback (aka Schwarzwald) - Michael Seeback was a reporter who became obssessed with the "truth" after mainly rejections of his news articles. He eventually took on the alis Schwarzwald (meaning Black Forest) to uncover the "truth." However as time went by he grew more and more into Schwarzwald to the point of even leaving his wife and kids. He ended up in an accident due to prying too much and thus resulted in him being burnt and ending up in bandages. He continues to pop up from time to time still trying to find the truth and running into roger smith. Schwarzwald also finds another Archtype called Big Duo and even engages in a fight with Roger Smith while piloting it.

It's revealed in Act 17 after thousands of papers littered the streets of Paradigm City predicting the comming of Leviathan supposidly by Schwarzwald, that he was actually long daed before then.

he also appears as an apparition to Rosewater and tells him that he is not the rightful pilot of Big Duo.

Pero - (** note to TG: i actually dont rmember much about this char. and since it was a pretty minor one doesnt rly reveal much about pero on the internet lol sooo il come back and edit this after i watch big o which im aquiring now >_> ) Appears in Ep. 8 In Paradigm City where cats and dogs are practically non exisistant Dorothy comes across a small stray cat whom she takes a liking too and takes it back with her. As per Roger's rules of everyone in the house must wear black she dresses Pero up in a small tux.

It's revealed that Pero was part of a gruesome experiment (i forgot what it was but i rmember it being disturbing, erm i think pero may of been created from humans or something)

Also Pero's real owners come to claim him but then end up getting brutally killed at the end.

I don't know who voices Pero, or even if he meows really he probably does, but hes a cat so i guess VA isnt all that important

i am planning, in the very near future, to rewatch the entire series b/c i want to introduce it to a friend that's never seen it and has no idea what i'm talking about when mentioning it.... anyway, if i am able, i can write up episode guides as i go along, but i was wondering if you have any specific format you'd like?

like, i figured i would name all the characters that appear and a basic plot, but i didn't know if you'd want all the locations or the megadues' fighting moves or random facts or what else... i suppose i should just say that i'm better at filling out forms, b/c if i try to give a full summary, it'll be a bunch of jumbled paragraphs, so is there a form i could go by? if not, could you make me one?

If you want to just give a basic plot summary of each episode, keeping things light on the spoilers, that'd be great. Jingai's been writing up in-depth episode summaries for the GITS folder's wiki, but I'm definitely not expecting anyone else to take that on. I need to rewatch the series myself one of these days, so I can put together something more in-depth then, since I have the free time and general level of boredom to sit down and do it. What I have set up in the GITS folder, and what I plan on doing in here, is having a thread where all of the episodes are listed with brief descriptions in the first post or two, and then link to individual posts with full-length summaries, so I could list your submissions as those initial descriptions.

i had noticed what you had going on in the gits folder and what jingai was doing, and i'm too scatterbrained to attempt something that in-depth without some serious direction, hence my question on a form... but i can totally handle writing up a brief for each episode... i'll even try to use correct capitalization and punctuation when i do it

Yeah, I'm not really sure what sort of form I could write up that would work for every episode. I guess maybe one thing that would work is listing what notable characters/robots show up in a particular episode.

Roger Smith, who is also known as The Negotiator, is both affluent and eccentric. He used to work for the Paradigm's Military Police, where Major Dustin was his superior, but quit are he learned about Paradigm's motives, now choosing to do things his way, ways that law cannot approach. He carries out his job with both professionalism and class, following he strict code of conduct. He lives a life of set rules, and expects the same from those who live with him. He also has another agenda, to maintain peace in Paradigm City.

Norman Burg

Voice Actor: Milton James

Norman is the very loyal butler to Roger Smith, and follow rules digently without guestion, doing his commands by the letter and never failing to aid Roger whenever he can. On top of his household duties such as cooking, cleaning, he's also well rounded when it comes to electronics, so he's in charge of fixing Big-O when needed. He is always prepared for the worst in any situation. 

Dan Dastun

Age: N/A

Race: Human

Voice Actor: Chuck Faley

Major Dan Dustan a long-standing member of the Paradigm City Military Police. He used to work with Roger Smith as his superior, until Roger quit, Dustan understand his reason for quiting and agrees with it, but knows that even though the higher-ups might be corrupt him as a cop would remain on the force abd represent the law to the city. For this reason he is very loyal to his position but not so much to the people in charge.

Angel

Alias: Agent #340 (And Many Others)

Race: Human

Age: 26

Voice Actor: Wendee Lee

Angel is a mystery, she is often sent to perform selected tasks for Paradigm from it's CEO, Alex Rosewater. Because of this she often takes up different aliases, but always tell Roger to refer to her a Angel, often leading to Roger call her a fallen angel. Angel searches for Memories, until she quits Paradigm and sides with no one.

you want help on that? for awhile ive been meaning to help out with the wiki more lol i got the eps on my computer and i was gonna try and help out with they spynosis. if TG wants you can always do a brief one and i can try and do a more indepth one.

Hi!

I was wondering if you'd be interested in something I had done for the old "Welcome to Paradigm City" site (which has been pretty much abandoned to hackers and #### near poisonous with malwear and viruses and other nasties now. DO NOT GO THERE!) 

I did extremely detailed transcripts of all of Season 2, including all dialogue. You're welcome to all of them, if you'd like.  Although I use the name "lunamoth" here, I'm also known as Cloudwalker (from back in the old Anime Jump days, if anyone remembers) and that's the name those transcripts were submitted under. 

I also have the translated transcript of "Yellow Brick Road,"  which was a kind of Big O radio play by the original writer of the series. You're welcome to that too.  It's interesting in that it gives further insight of how he thought of his characters; for example, at one point Dastun says Roger and R.Dorothy argue like brother and sister.

Anyway, absolutely love this series (although the second season still gives me headaches!)

It's been ages since I've been here, and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do a private message, despite checking out the help section.  Can't find the envelope icon *rolls eyes, annoyed with self*...so, should I simply post the transcripts as messages? I'd title each one appropriately, including spoiler alerts.  What should I do?

The PM icon is actually really difficult to find if you don't already know where it is. It's that tiny gray jellyfish-looking icon in the upper-right corner of the board layout. I might send a message to our admin asking if we can get that link change to something more recognizable, or at least get the help section updated, since it really is kind of silly.

Anyways, if you're able to post the transcripts right on the boards, that would be just fine. If it's something that would be more convenient to send some other way, we're not actually allowed to post e-mail addresses on the boards, but if you send me a PM, we can work something out.
