I don't think Aaron McGruder ever meant for it to be an anime, he didn't even consider himself a good artist. He had help developing the art style.

No. The artists just love anime and decided to try and copy the anime style of drawing. Americans can draw like Japanese people if they want and vice versa. Not a big deal.

Aaron has specifically stated he does believe himself to be doing real anime in several interviews before the show even began. Boondocks is anime of western origin, not to be confused or grouped along the likes of anime-inspired stuff like Teen Titans and Totally Spies.

The Boondocks is an american cartoon.

The animators drevv it in an anime style, but that does not make it anime. It was not made in Japan.

Boondocks = American

Correct. Anime litterally means "animated" in Japan. So an anime is any animated cartoon from Japan.

I can think of a billion art movements that started in one country, but were pioneered by people in others. Would you tell those people their work wasn't authentic just because they didn't create them in a specific country?

2 .if the boondocks was watched in japan it would be called an anime, even though it originated in america, becasue its ANIMATED

3. just because most animes originate in japan, doesnt mean ALL of them have to.

After listening to the Season 2 DVD commentary, I most definitely do not consider The Boondocks anime. On the DVD, the writers succinctly explain the process used to create an new episode of the show. The reasons for my argument are quite simple: the show is written in the US, animated in Korea and then shown on an American network before being translated in to other languages. A show properly categorized as anime must at least have some connection to the nation of Japan according to my definition.

I understand it looks like anime, but Japanese animation is distinct from American products in other noteworthy ways.
