Will there EVER be new Drinky Crow episodes...?

[ Edited ]

Ok, this has been discussed ad nauseum, to be sure, but I would like to determine (once and for all) whether or not the series has a chance at ever being resurrected, if not by AS, then perhaps on another, competing-for-the-same-audience-and-time-slot network, such as Comedy Central, Spike, et al.  Is it possible?  What do any and all of you think / know?  Tony Millionaire himself says (via my communications with him over Facebook) that "Drinky Crow is dead," and seems resigned to this 'fact,' however, there is a Facebook fan page for the series which currently boasts 2,354 members (as of Mon 27 Feb 2010).

Many of these fans are definitely very interested in seeing the series revived for more seasons, including of course, myself.  I thought it was wonderfully wacky, albeit somewhat twisted and gross at times. I take weird humor very seriously, and know of the secret power that it often has, to actually change things for the better.  Now is not the time to get into the philosophical details...  The 3D-to-2D animation style itself was pretty groundbreaking, and certainly will inspire generations of animators to come.  The episode stories ranged from pretty good to great, in my opinion, and of all of the shows that AS has rolled out over the past five years, I feel strongly that TDCS was definitely one of the best (along with "Stroker and Hoop" and the "Snake 'n' Bacon" pilot).

If anyone else here has similar feelings, please join the aforementioned Drinky Crow fan page on Facebook, and also be sure to friend Tony Millionaire on Facebook as well:

There will never be new Drinky Crow episodes. AS is done with that. Sorry for your loss.

Somehow, I have a hunch that you (and also, Tony Millionaire) just might be wrong - at least I certainly hope so.  This sort of thing has happened in the past (animation cancellations), and thanks to the efforts of fans, more seasons were created.  The most notable examples, that we're all aware of, are Futurama and Family Guy.  Of course, the vast majority of television shows (animated or otherwise) that have been cancelled, remain that way.  We'll see...

That's pretty rare though. Family Guy and Futurama were both unbelievably lucky. They were extremely popular in syndication, and had huge fanbases. Drinky kind of just fizzled away without much of a bang at all. But yeah, guess we'll see.

Well, not to drag this on infinitely, but...  If you take the time to look into the history of how certain shows were renewed after being cancelled, it had a lot to do with people slowly discovering and enjoying them well after their initial debut.  Then, they clamored for more...  This is what is slowly happening with Drinky Crow.  Go check out the Facebook forums, and also the bootleg Drinky Crow merch available on eBay.  People are buying that stuff at a steady clip, which indicates that there's a 'meme' effect occurring.  Animation fanbases often have to fight for respect from network executives.  With the obvious exceptions of Disney, Dreamworks, et al, animation in America is still largely seen as B- or C-list entertainment.  This is particularly true for more offbeat, adult-oriented offerings.  People here just don't "care" as much about the artform here in the US of A, in general.  And although some AS fans will resent me saying it, the programming has been trending toward extremely low-brow comedies (far less artistically 'worthy,' IMHO than TDCS).  I like this sort of humor myself (it's a large part of what I love about TDCS), but some of the lamer stuff that continually gets renewed by AS just leaves me scratching my head...

Well, you are right about the fact that there have been shows that have gotten renewed for more than 11 episodes (Even here on good old [AS]) that are just plain crappy and are far worse than The Drinky Crow Show . But I do not think Drinky's cancelation meant that animation is unpopular in America. I mean, look at Disney. They've been around for like a buh million years and they are stil going strong. Thats because they're new form of entertainment (Which is animation) changed entertainment for the better and not the worst.

I think tDCS's death was due to the majority of people being so offended or confused by the series to like the show. There have been great cartoons that have died young. Stroker & Hoop, Baby Blues, Mission Hill, Freakazoid, Perfect Hir Forever, Frisky Dingo, Lucy, the Daughter Of The Devil and Korgoth are great examples.

Sometimes a show is just niche like that and not for everybody. There are shows that are good and given a respectful run, shows that are bad and meet the Grim Reaper, shows that are bad, but are on air for at least a relativly long time anyway and, in tDCS's case, shows that are great, but do not find that fanbase they need to keep from winding up unpopular and/or short lived.

How would you like a Rusty Venture?
There are 5 original seasons of Futurama, not 4.
Cartoons!

The guys who made Drinky are probably working on something better......I felt just like you when Frisky Dingo fizzed out only to find the one of the guys was making Archer.....I still felt like it could never be as good as Dingo, but I was wrong.....I didn't keep up with Drinky, but I'm sure you did so check and see if they have any new projects.....You may be pleasently surprised.....Here's hoping.
Kaitlyn brought a wolf for me to fight, and refused to speak to me until I'd bested it in battle.
I did so, easily. Because there are three things that I'm the t!ts at: Barbecuing, Mega Man 2 and finding lupine pressure points.
I thought we'd mack a little after that, but she just laugh-cried manically over the wolf corpse until her face turned purple. Also, she was driving an Aztek and that's literally my only deal breaker.

And the demise of Home Movies paved the way for Metalocalypse and Lucy: DotD. :smileyhappy:

So @OP: Every show's gotta go some time. Maybe Drinky's death will bring about a new and exciting show, that might be better or more popular. Ya never know. But yeah I don't think it's coming back.

I did mention Disney, etc. as being the obvious exceptions...  I still stand by my statement that the average American hasn't yet really advanced to the point of taking animation (and cartooning) seriously enough.  Your point about people not understanding or being offended by TDCS, I totally understand.  It certainly is very crass and gross at times.  The darkness of it is a guilty joy to me, in spite of my realization of this.  Although I don't consider myself to be a complete prude, I do have conservative views on many issues - however, cartooning and animation are notable exceptions.  If TDCS was a live-action show, I'd probably not be a fan, because nasty humor of that order is usually only funny (to me, personally) in an abstracted (i.e., animated) form.  Cheyenne Cinnamon, seems to be exploring along that same vein of black humor, and if your pronouncements about AS viewers being offended by certain classes of humor holds water into the future, then we can very likely expect that show to not last very long, either.  That pilot really moved into some strange territory, eh?

If there were enough fans asking for it the show could come back on Adult Swim or some place else, since Millionaire retains control of his characters.  Networks just try to maximize value for the share-holders of their parent companies -- fans control the culture through their watching and consuming choices.  How many fans are enough?  I'd say 25,000.
the muscular one
the powerful one
the insubstantial one....

...these are THE THREE

If there are not 25,00 fans of this Drinky Crow in this world, then this world is not the place for me. Who wants my scuba gear?
