Hurlan "undid" it with his "powers." When he finishes, the preacher walks into the office and they replay the scene from earlier in the ep, except Hurlan opens the drawer of light this time. Gemberling's character (from what I could tell his name is "Clemm") offed himself too, but returns.

 

This means that N-WORD is not necessarily dead.

 

However, the town still wants jeans, and Clemm secretly likes to have raw hamburger meat shoved up his butt.

 

This is my theory, of course.
