Massively Multishow Programapalooza

[ Edited ]

welcome to the [adult swim] Programaramapalooza extravaganzathon from hell of doom game thread.

first one ever.

rules:

If you want to see more of a show, or see it on the programapalooza game schedule, give it a +, if you want to see it less often on the game schedule, or see it off the schedule, vot it a -.

Each time you post you may post two votes.  They can't be for the same show.  IE, you can't vote +2 for one show or -2 for one show.  Your two votes have to be for different shows.  Also you may not cast double minus votes.  Your post must have at least one "+" vote to be valid.

You can vote each hour, meaning you can vote once between 6:00PM and 6:59PM, and once between 7:00PM and 7:59 PM etc.

So you can vote, for example at 4:59 PM and again at 5:01 PM.  But you cannot vote at 3:07 PM and again at 3:58 PM

You may also vote for an acquisition.  IE a show that has never aired on Adult Swim, but you wish to acquire for the block.   A show is considered "acquired" when it reaches 100 votes.  You may suggest Movies as well as shows.

Votes will be tallied the morning after a round has reached page 5, at which point it will move on to the next folder.

When a show dips far enough below other shows, it will be eliminated from the schedule.

If a show currently not in production reaches "200" it is considered revived, and will be generating new/premiere episodes.

Folder Immunity: The folder in which the traveling game is currently taking place is considered immune from negative votes, also gets a + vote for hosting.

Previous folder: Frisky Dingo

Current Folder/Immunity:  the Mighty Boosh

Next Folder: 12 Oz Mouse

Additional notes:

If a movie makes the schedule, it is considered a slot of "adult swim movies" and all movies on the list will be cycled in that slot with priority given to the highest rated.

If a bump series makes the schedule it is considered to have been made into an 11 minute show.

This Adult Swim channel takes place in a fantasy world in which every show ever to have aired on Adult Swim is still within the realm of possibility to air on the block.

also for additional shows check out the "I Remember Betty" thread, the first few posts contain a comprehensive list of Comedy and Action (and drama) shows, including unaired projects, possible future projects, and things that have aired on the block/site.

The other day, I tried following this whole thing on a whim, and I have a few questions:

1.) How does the schedule you've been posting the last couple nights reflect the standings in the poll?

2.) How long are you going to continue this, until everything either reaches 0 or 200?

3.) The thread it moves from and to seems somewhat random. Is there any logic behind it?

4.) For that matter, what's the point of moving it? Why not just have one giant thread on the topic in the General [as] Discussion folder?

5.) Isn't the "host folder immunity" thing unfair to the bump series (i.e., Not For Air), pilots (i.e., Saddle Rash), and shows (i.e., FLCL) that don't have folders to move itr into?

1.) How does the schedule you've been posting the last couple nights reflect the standings in the poll?

basically timeslots are alloted by importance.  The shows with the higher points get the higher profile slots.  IE, the highest point show gets the mn-th 10pm slot, the 2nd highest gets 10:30 etc.

there's a master list with all shows, then a separate consideration for action only on Saturdays, comedy only on Sundays, and Premieres which go on Sat for action, Sun for Comedy, and are repeated (one on monday night, the rest on thursday).  Firday is a "theme" night, so whatever show falls into the 10:30 Friday slot sets the tone and then the rest are filled in by similarity and point standings.  In this case, Bebop was the anchor show for Friday (because that's how it fell in the point standings) so the theme was classic anime.  So filled out Friday by going down the list from highest to lowest point totals of classic anime shows, filling those into the friday grid.

basically though there is a hierarchy of importance to timeslots, and the higher point shows go into the important slots, on down.

2.) How long are you going to continue this, until everything either reaches 0 or 200?

Basically it can be played whenever or for however long anybody feels like it.  Shows will go up and down in the point totals.  The 200 cap was eliminated when the games merged.  And it seemed keeping the elim elements alive weren't particular pleasing the people that it was designed to, so it's more about the programarama now.

Basically you can still view it as an elimination game if you want, but the idea is more to eliminate shows you don't want to see from the schedule rather than a generic list.

So it's sort of morphed into more of a building game than an elimination game.  The point is more to build a schedule and/or see your tastes reflected in the schedule rather than attack/eliminate a specific show.  Though eliminating a show from the schedule can still be a goal in the game.

3.) The thread it moves from and to seems somewhat random. Is there any logic behind it?

The order of folders it moves to is based on folder health report that I generate for the helpers.  We're going least trafficked to most trafficked, then once all folders have been visited, we will loop around again.

4.) For that matter, what's the point of moving it? Why not just have one giant thread on the topic in the General [as] Discussion folder?

It adds an additional element to the game, allows people to explore the board more, or people who might not otherwise notice it to jump in.  Also people seem to post/play less when it's static.

5.) Isn't the "host folder immunity" thing unfair to the bump series (i.e., Not For Air), pilots (i.e., Saddle Rash), and shows (i.e., FLCL) that don't have folders to move itr into?

this is covered but the trigger mechanism hasn't yet occurred.  There are things in the game that only happen when certain actions are taken.  for example, there is a "secret show" that, if voted upon, as soon as I read the post, the thread jumps to IB for an hour and no show is immune.

There are similar triggers for things to happen regarding your post (shows without folders having a shot at immunity for example)

I like it because there's a lot to do.

Between the acquisitions, schedule moving etc, there's more to think about in a vote.

Like with this sometimes even a show somebody likes, they might give a "-" vote to just to get something else into the more frequent spots etc.

It also allows for things like - today I might be in the mood for Saul, so I'd vote that up, and then once it's been on the schedule for awhile I might vote it back down for something else.

I think it works pretty good as a longterm/open ended sort of mindless message board game.
