Agreed. Gervais & Merchent really knew how to end the series perfectly.

The US version was really good the first two seasons, but they really don't know when the end the **BLEEP** thing and it's just felt like it's been dragging on way longer than it needs to. The only thing I've liked about the newer US episodes is the addition of Ed Helms.

Eh, I'd say the  3rd season was good too, after that is when it dropped off dramatically

Yeah, the show does an effective job getting its audience to feel for the characters. I especially like how it ends happily, but without seeming totally predictable, like many happy endings tun out. It manages to be unconventional enough to make the ending feel like a pleasant set of circumstances that just happened to work out, instead of an inevitable conclusion like so many more formulaic stories that telegraph long before they reach the finish line.

I also agree that it's superior to anything I've seen on the American version. I too enjoyed the first three seasons of that show, and it still possesses some entertainment value in its weaker, more recent seasons. However, that show has always seemed like a less subtle take, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Yet, the characters on the American show come off more like caricatures than real people when compared to the more understated original. My preference lies with the British version.

I, personally, love the American version of this show, I watch it religiously and have seen every episode of all 6 seasons at least three times, except for a few in the 3rd and 4th when I was in greece, but I have to agree that the Christmas finale is better than any episode the US has put out, better than the Niagra wedding two-parter even, or the Beach Day episode, or the Casino Night episode, or The Big Gay Witch Hunt, although each of those episodes is better than any of the UK ones minus this special.

I did not know, and I made it a point not to find out until the end, so I honestly thought Tim and Dawn were not going to get together. I was surprised, and happy.

Thank you, Ricky Gervais.

One of my favorite moments is how The Office almost seems to slowly redeem or show the start of a recovery of David Brent in just about 20 minutes. The moment when he tells Chris to go fuck himself is one of my favorite television moments.

David getting a win of any kind is so relieving. He brings his misery down on himself, but at his core, despite his inconsiderateness toward others, he just wants people to like him. There's nothing wrong with that. Social ineptitude doesn't make him a villain.

Finchy, on the other hand, has a total dearth of likeable qualities. It's more satisfying than tragic to watch him get slammed.

I wouldn't say that, but it was certainly a powerfully subtle ending to the show.
