Brittish

Con: Brittish accents, BBC limitations (access, time slots, etc.), censoring?.

Pro: Funny, back log of episodes to view.

NBC

Con: Censorship, NBC.

Pro: Funny, online stuff.

P.S. where the hell did this board appear from?

I bet the original BBC Office

will be better then the NBC knock off,

because British comedies

are almost always funnier and more entertaining then U.S. live action network sitcoms

that's just common knowledge

P.S.

congrats on being the first post ever on The Office board!!!!  :smileyvery-happy:

Even British people think some British accents are like ear sandpaper. It can be a con, but not always admittedly.

I like the subtle humor the British version uses. Ricky Gervais makes every situation SO uncomfortable, my god. He can be hilarious though.

The US version tries to be louder and more in-your-face with it's humor. Not that loud is a bad thing, but it can get a little old.

Another pro for UK Office; they get away with a lot more than the US version does, since censoring in the US is a lot greater than it is in the UK. We'll see how this reflects in it being aired on adult swim though. Even though I'm sure the only changes made will be some editing for language.

I'm wondering if the giant blow-up wiener will be a black bar on AS.

Office BBC did its thing and cancelled.

Office NBC will continue forever.

:smileysurprised: I didn't notice this folder until now. Cool.

The NBC Office doesn't seem like something I'd love. So I'm told, a lot of it is based around two character's on-and-off relationship. No thanks. I don't think I'd like the characters, either. And the show is very high-budget, and there's a lot of people working on it. The fact that the British office was written by, produced by, and starring the same guy gives it a lot more of a personal feel. It shows he really cares about his show. A high-budget show with a million producers and writers is a lot more detatched, you know? The only think I think I'd like about the American office is the dialogue based, realistic, often awkward humor, which, in my experience, British people do better. Also, since the British one is lower-budget and less mainstream, it doesn't need to rely on things like romance to reel people in.

So yeah, I haven't seen either show, but the British office wins, by virtue of being less-mainstream, more personal, and British.

I just felt the need to correct this. The Office BBC actually wasn't cancelled. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (the creators) chose to end the series after two seasons, because they hate when shows are dragged out, since the quality of the show can suffer as a result. Their other show Extras also only has two seasons. It's just a lot more uncommon for this to happen in the US, since a lot of shows are dragged out as long as they're popular and making money, regardless of how crappy the show becomes. Which is sad.

I watched the first season of the BBC office a while back and while funny I thought the NBC one took a great concept and perfected it. The Jim and Pam characters are not really very personable which I think was one reason the NBC one got so much attention (Tim seems more like a d1cK and Dawn strikes me as an idiotic bimbo). The Dwight character is in no way likable in the BBC version (granted that is his role), but Rain Wilson plays an arse that grows on you in a way you almost root for him to win sometime against Jim. The remainder of the NBC office staff stand out and are characters in themselves while the BBC ones are mostly backround. I enjoyed the BBC version, but you won't find me buying the dvd's.

I'm not completely ignorant about them. I know quite a bit about them, I just haven't actually seen either. I mentioned that I haven't seen either so that anyone who reads what I wrote knows that I'm going off what I've heard rather than what I've seen. That's what I was commenting on - what I've heard and learned, or seen on commercials or clips of either show. Based on all that, the BBC Office just seems better to me. And I'm not completely casting the NBC Office aside as something I wouldn't enjoy. Not at all. I just feel like I'd like the British one more. Shows can surprise you, I could end up hating the British Office and loving the NBC Office. Who knows. I just don't expect that to happen, right now, which is all I was saying. I think I should be allowed to express that opinion.

Whatever you watch, watch the first 2 seasons.

Whichever you watch first, you will probably like more.

I bought the UK version DVD set the second I saw it. And I watched it all but it just wasn't the same for me.

I already liked the US version and it was nice to see the original but I already had my fav.

I'll say this about the US version, it is a bit more obvious. Alot of looks into the camera. Alot of big life changes and scenery changes and more characters.

There is a reason why it was developed for American television.

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant were happy with the show and it's success but why not capitalize on it?

Why not bring it here where shows can run for a bit longer?

I think they were smart to make it more American and the product they came out with is perfect to me.

I live in America. They knew what I wanted. They delivered.

Not to say the British version is technically the first and probably more clever and is better in alot of minds.

I just like US version better.

Still, I'm really excited to watch the show on AS.

I have very little doubt that I'll end up liking them both, but, eh, I don't know. Big life/scenery changes could go either way for me. It depends on how they do it. If the British one is just completely static, I don't think I'd like it that much. And I do love lots of characters. You guys make the NBC version seem like a more advanced/complicated version of the original. If that's the case, there is the chance that I'd end up liking it more. It all depends on how they do it. We'll see.

But yeah, I'm probably going to end up seeing the BBC Office first. I'm planning on watching it as they're released on here. The video section on NBC's site only has 5 episodes of The Office, and they're all in the latter half of season five. One of them is the episode with James Urbaniak in it though! So that's tempting.

Yeah, I too have noticed that typically whichever version people watch first, they tend to like more. That's the case with me I know. But I also think it's also partly impacted on your sense of humor. The Office UK is so much more awkward. Steve Carell does have the same sort of instances as well in the US Office, but Ricky Gervais just makes it literally uncomfortable. And it's even more awkward in season 2. But I find that hilarious. To me it just seems more real. The Office US, while still having some awkwardness, relies more so on doing ridiculous things, like having Dwight and Michael drive into a lake.

I'm hoping the BBC one will better. Because the NBC one is really boring for me and not really funny at all. I'm willing to give the BBC one a fair chance, and am even looking forward to its premier, but I'm just saying that the NBC one left at lot to be desired for me.

I just thought of another pro for The Office UK!!! So, first I'll set it up. So I first watched The Office UK before the American version was made, and have since rewatched it. But several months ago it seemed like I hadn't watched it in forever so I rewatched it yet again, in a pretty short span of time. So...

PRO: If you watch The Office UK in a short timespan, the voice inside your head may become british temporarily. (It was pretty awesome) Oh..and this can be a con if you don't like british voices again, but that's just crazy.

Haven't seen the British Office yet. But I didn't like the US version, the characters were obnoxious in a bad way, the acting and the jokes felt very forced(Seriously yelling doesn't make it funnier), the timing and delivery of the comedy felt kind of off too..  I've heard this one was better, so I'll give it a try..
