The Office(UK) or The Office(US) or both..?

After seeing The Office-The Original one from the UK last night I have to say it was alright, but I still like the Office from the US,too.

But which you think is the better, the one from the UK or one from the US? Then again it could be both......? Then again some don't watch it?

Just tell me what you think?

i did get intot he US verision of The Office at one time, but slowly grew bored of it

and ive only seen 1 episode of UK Office atm *been wanting to see this for awhile, but other shows kept getting ahead of this one*

if the UK Office keeps going like the first episode, then ill go with that one

if it slips and goes down a bit... ill call them equal

The Office(US) overdid the whole HUR DURR in  your face thing with the jokes.. Didn't like that at all. I enjoyed the first episode of the British one, can't wait to see the show flesh out. :smileyhappy:

The British Office is absolutely better.  The US office is getting very close to "Jumping the Shark" last season has become the "Dwight Shroot" show.  The less of Rainn Wilson I see the better.

both.

it's funny how closely they stuck to the script of the original in the first season of the US

version, and yet there's a different feel to each.

The British version is a little more drab and sad, which actually is cooler in a way and better

suits the premise.  The US version is a little faster paced and definitely more fun.

The British version is more rye, whereas the US version is sillier.  And I love both those.

So basically, they're technically the same show, and even in some episodes the same script

line for line, yet they are very different feeling shows, and I love both sets of elements.

I very much enjoy that kind of dry uncomfortable feel of the original, but I equally enjoy

the sillier, more manic US version.

I still would rather watch the US version, but in all fairness I must say that the UK office was working against an enormous disadvantage......My incredible dislike for UK shows had me giving this a D at best starting out, and as I watched it I felt I was watching a rip-off of the US office with crappier production values.

Even though I know this one was first I couldn't dissect the part of me that felt they were doing it all wrong, but in the end the show jumped up to a C.......I was really ready to give it an F........Or maybe the less flattering SUPER F, but I had to give the show it's due.....Not too shabby........Geeze, what  cast of the aesthetically challenged though......Ugh.

I like Gervais though.  I just like his work.  I like how, for example those opening

and closing themes are almost sad, almost more drama oriented.  Yet it suits the style

of comedy he's doing really well.

The thing about Gervais is - you can go through this long period of drabness and then he

hits you with something, and if you're paying attention, it's just this one tiny thing that has

you laughing nonstop.

Interestingly, the US Office is much more cartoony feeling.  Whereas the British Office

has more of a realistic undercurrent.  Yet the British version is the one they're showing.

I think they should show both.

But - it's very different.  There's more of a sort of genuine workplace despair  in the British

version that's glossed over in the US version with silliness.

But I think that despair is such an integral part of what they're doing.  It makes it more familiar

to me.

I mean - I can personally identify more strongly with that sense of despair in the workplace

than I can the sillier US version.

But the silly US version is more fun.

I guess in a sense the two versions are different in that - the British is more realism, whereas

the US version is more escapist.  I really really love both of those forms.  I am drawn to

both types of entertainment. But I think a lot of people prefer the escapist approach, which

is appropriate when you think about it cuz mostly people watch to be entertained and get

away from it all kinda.

Yeah I too identify with the mundane feel of the British office a lot more, and that might be why I don't take a shine to it as much.......The escapism of the US office makes me feel more entertained, while the former makes me feel empathetic.......Yes, I will agree that if you were waiting for a "Wake up, here's the joke" kinda thing you would be displeased by this one, but as I said it took a leap in a positive direction with me, and it was fighting an up hill battle in that respect.

As far as ol' Grevais goes I find myself realizing that he is actually pretty funny (he too is fighting that same up hill battle).  His upcoming movie has me intrigued to say the least.  I liked his cameo in GTA4 also.......Had no idea it was him until a few weeks ago.

well ironically, my local FOX channel just started syndicating The Office yesterday (unfortunalely it replaced the Simpsons...) and I was shocked at how much alike the 2 shows were (same plot for both basically... right down to the Jello), but they were so different

The US one did seem a lot more silly, but in a good way

And the British one was a bit more serious, but also in a good way.

I think I might be hooked now though :smileytongue:

I've got to say, AS is sliding down the in the toilet bowl. there are several shows ive been very disappointed in. The Office (UK) is the newest of them. i would like to ask, when the hell dose it get funny?!? the show is not funny in anyway shape or form. you would have to be stoned out of your mind to even start to chuckle at it. to me this show is just plain sad. i found myself 15 minutes into the first episode and just could not handle anymore, so i quickly changed the channel. dont get me wrong i love the BBC. there are a lot of great shows that is produced from it, but the shows that AS is getting from it is just a down right insult. taking shows that are clearly not funny, and calling them funny is not ok. shows that are just so uncomfortably weird is not ok. airing crap on something that once was great is not freaking ok!! i love AS. i enjoyed the quality programing it once showed, but now its just not worth watching anymore. it was great when AS had a balanced lineup of anime and comedy. now AS is airing crapy shows with poor quality. i would ask for them to either bring back old classics, make some more original shows, or find something else that you can air that is not crap. but i doubt they would even give me a reply. at least an explanation into why they are airing crap. simple fix, bring back the balance. add a few more anime shows. i dont care if they are old or new, i mean there are thousands maybe even millions you could air that are good. next STOP AIRING CRAP!!!!! its annoying when your pitching these highly unassuming shows for months on in, then air them for the next month or two, then take them off your lineup because they **BLEEP** and fail so hard.

a list of failed shows:

The Office (UK)

 The Mighty Boosh

 Tim and Eric show

 Tom goes to the Mayor

Look Around You

Marenghi's Darkplace

Fat guy stuck in internet

Delocated

Saul of the Mole men

all these shows **BLEEP** and should be taken off of AS.

It would seem that you have a major distaste for live action......So do I.....We are muy simpatico in that respect, but I just wanna ask, which shows actually keep you around at this moment.

Right now UK office, and Boosh are the only things around for me to find unfitting (both are pretty avoidable, but I'm gonna give The Office another shot), but those other shows have all but disappeared lately........Now I know, I know T&E will be back barring the unfortunate destruction of all the film *WINK WINK*, but literally at the end of the day......What else is there to watch......Personally if some of the bs comes on I hang out here, and bitch about it.

Yeah, I know how you feel though.....We gotta adapt.

the shows that do interest me are many but they are growing fewer. family guy is always good. robot chicken, aqua teen hunger force,  American dad, and the very little anime they do show. no im not a fan of there live action crap. AS should stick to what they know, not try to learn new tricks. i dont plan on adapting to anything. i like what i watch and i guess not everyone dose. we all have different tastes, but isn't that why they set up these boards? to figure out what the fans want? i guess not. if they are going to air crap, the least they can do is admit it is crap. how do they select their programing really? do they just pick random junk out of a hat or what?

RC, AD and Aqua Teen?

If those are the only shows you like then you're just really picky. That's not [as]'s fault, it's yours. And if you don't like a show, then don't watch it, and don't call it crap.

There's actually a HUGE different between not liking something and it being crap.

For instance, I don't like Squidbillies that much, but I won't say that it **BLEEP** because many other people like it and obviously it's popular

Now Saul of the Molemen... THAT could be considered crap because I'm pretty sure the majority of people that watched it hated it.

no there are quite a many shows i do like. just because i dont list them dose not mean i dont like them. if you want i can list my likes and dont likes just to clarify. and i know this, see i made this account last night because im tired of not saying anything. thing is, there are some shows that are quite crapy, but they have there moments of comedy. while others have no comedy what so ever. there is a HUGE difference between whats funny and whats not funny. and if they didnt want people to complain then im sure a lot of use would be banned for sure.

You misunderstood me.......by adapt I mean find something else to do.....I would never recommend watching something you've already decided to hate.....I don't, so I come to the boards and let loose, that's all I meant........As far as the boards go I had little to no faith that they paid any attention to our rants, but I see a little evidence here, and there that sometimes they are paying attention.

I would have to say I like the UK version better it. I rented the entire season from netflix a few years back. Ricky Gervais is so annoying you can't help but laugh. The orignal helped me get into watchign the US version.  I think I would pretty much watch anything with Ricky Gervais:smileywink:, I love the AS commercials for the show. :smileyhappy:

There's actually yet another new live action show coming up called Children's Hospital,

which looks really really funny.

I am a fan of anything potentially.  I don't much see the point of drawing lines in the sand

in terms of like - whether something is live action or animationed, or anime or not, or this

or that.  Just - if it's good, or unusual or has its own distinct voice, I'm usually at least

interested in it in some way or other.

But what I like about AS is how they're always looking for new styles and new looks for

the animation.  I like how - I think it was Southies I saw the clip of.  I like the style of the art

and the animation.  I like how - the early AS flash shows aside, there is such a wide range

of visual styles to AS cartoons.

One of the things I love about the block is everything is at least interesting.

But then again, most of the shows you list, I not only like, I love and am a huge huge fan of.

I tend more to be "eh" toward the more popular/generic humor shows like Robot Chicken.

They're okay, but I've already been where they want to take me, already heard all the jokes

they want to tell me.  Sometimes they come up with something neat.  The animation is always

fantastic.  It's okay.

But really, shows like the Office are exactly why I watch Adult Swim.  I watch it for cartoons

too.  That's one of the big things I watch it for true.  But also just like - shows that are

just, creatively unique, brave in their attempts to genuinely challenge comedy and go

places nobody else will go.  I think the Office is that kind of show.  Tim & Eric is that kind

of show.  Xavier.  Moral Orel.

Don't get me wrong, there are other shows that are wonderful.  Venture Brothers is a great

show.  But it doesn't really challenge or intrigue me on the same level that these wildly

inventive shows that just - totally assault creative conventions and social conventions.

I can't say enough good things about Ricky Gervais, the Office, Tim & Eric, Dino, Xavier,

etc for that reason.  Beyond that it sort of cuts more to why I watch television and what

entertains me personally, I'm just damn happy that there are artists and writers out there

that are throwing bombs.  Especially in these times.  I'm so happy there is subversive

entertainment out there.  So few entities are providing that outlet.  It used to be everywhere.

Even CN, Nick, and MTV were bastions of genuinely subversive work.

It's really kinda down to AS now.  I can't think of any other entity that is out there doing

that kind of stuff and putting that kind of stuff on the air.

God bless em I say.
