Well, I for one love it. But it wasn't always that way. See, I when I first saw it, I already knew I loved Monty Python and Fawlty Towers. I thought I might give this a go. I forgot what episode it was, but all I know is I was a bit young and walked away from it thinking it was pretty boring but that there was something that made me want to keep watching. I forgot to tune in again. *doh*
Fast forward a couple of years later. I like the American knockoff. And I remember the original British version and know that eventually I want to try seeing it again. But then along came [adult swim]. I'm older, wiser, my tastes have expanded, and I love both versions. And now, I personally can't see how anyone can watch this and not like it or at least chuckle.
I hate to say this, but it really maybe an acquired taste that not everyone will get. It may take some time to develop the necessary state of mind to watch this. You need to be able to watch it as it is and not compare it to anything else, but watch it on its own merits. It deserves it just like any other show, and I'm willing to bet that the other shows people have mentioned on this thread are apples and oranges anyway. And of course you're not going to get it or catch everything if you change the channel halfway through. That's just ridiculous, imo. Take the time to give it your all. Patience is a virtue. And I think it needs to be understood that this kind of show isn't written to have you bent over with laughter the whole time and that you can't get the instant gratification that everyone wants nowadays. With this show, it's kind of a mix between comedy and drama. Like real life, there's a time to chuckle, a time to burst out in laughter, and a time to cringe or feel bad (mainly for Davey Brent).
I'm sorry about the long post, just my thoughts.
