Also, who cares about Glodson and Itsa? They can go buy themselves a fancy thread to play in with all those kudos they have. THIS JUST IN: You can buy fancy threads with your kudos.

yeah I dont't even know anymore what sex anybody is.
like sometimes the SN sounds kinda female, but the poster is male, or they have an icon that's a different gender than they are so you kinda think they're that.
so - I just assume they have no sex until such time as they let me in.

I actually referred to meta as a girl at one point and was like "wait, is that right?" and then referred to meta as a boy and was like "oh crap what if meta is a girl and I'm referring to her as a guy?"
I can't keep track of people's genitalia unless it's staring me right in the face.

Wow that got crazy, huh? I locked the thread by the way so people could step back and collect themselves. And walk away.
I'll open it at the end of the day or tomorrow morning.
I usually don't reply in this thread, but I received numerous PMs asking me to check it out so I took an hour or so to read the last 7 or 8 pages. It broke my brain but I rested up and I'm back to the land of the sane.
I'm gonna try to make this post as structured and clear as possible because I want to be done with it after this. I don't think it requires any more discussion than what's already been repeated 300 times. So here's 301.
We all know how this started as has been repeated more than enough, and we know when it blew up--when Meta's temp was changed to a perm for arguing his case in the Why Mod thread.
I believe that the original ban was justified (as does pretty much everyone else). I even think that the ban could've even been made a permaban from the beginning and been justified.
And this probably won't be well received by some people but I do think that the lengthening of the ban after those initial posts by Meta's alt was warranted.
The reason I say this is because of some of the things that were said to make it seem like he wasn't in the wrong. I don't want to give specific examples because I'm not interested in calling out Meta anymore than possible but I can if someone wants to PM me.
Any time someone comes in arguing that what they did wasn't worthy of a ban, they run the risk of the mod changing it to a perma to get the point across.
That's the whole point of bans. To teach the user not to do that anymore. And if a temp doesn't work then a perm might. There's no rule that states a ban can't be upgraded.
When Meta came back after Luuv made the ban, he was more calm and explained the situation and did admit his wrong and Luuv did change it back to a temp which I think he was right to do and I would have pushed for it if he didn't.
So that's that. Really I think it should have ended there. I personally don't think it needed more discussion.
So the people that disagreed with this move voiced their opinions (i know they did this before the temp was re-issued which complicates things) and that's where it got ugly.
First off, I saw lots of accusations that Jeff is treated with kid gloves which I think is unfounded. Jeff has even been banned before. But not often. People have been banned for insulting Jeff, but again not often, very rarely in fact. And definitely not to the point where it looks like special attention is paid to him.
I could name 4 users off the top of my head that get attacked more and get people banned more often. I'm not going to of course, cuz that's not cool.
Maybe the idea that there is comes from the fact that Jeff is so well known here and his posts are immediately identifiable. They stick in people's minds. Kind of like an unconscious meme. I don't know. Just a thought.
But anyway as more and more people posted, as always happens more and more misunderstandings and misquotes and confusion started piling up. From both sides of the argument. Names are called, ideas are attributed to people who didn't have them and so on.
I mean 90% of what was said in there wasn't even about the issue at all. It started to be like a meta-issue. An issue about an issuing being an issue.
There were, however, a few things about the blowup that I wanted to address specifically. I don't personally agree with the condescending tone Luuv took with some of you and I don't agree with him saying that y'all were justifying hate, because after reading it all I don't think that's what y'all were doing.
I apologize for that (especially to you Med). But I can't and won't force Luuv to apologize on that. That's up to him, and I don't run the mods like that, especially when they were just words, and I already stated his actual actions were justified in my eyes.
Because I'm sure he did feel like he was being ganged up on and started to get really defensive and it showed. And maybe I or anyone would've done the same in situation, who knows.
His side was right on points and the other side was right on points. And each side focused on those points to show how they were right about the entire point. Which is the way it goes with Internet arguments (what a terrible way to debate, huh?)
No one was wrong, no one was right. Just a bunch of personal beliefs.
So finally, for everyone's sake, Jeff's, and especially mine, just let this go. It's done. There's a temp ban that's totally justified and all involved parties have accepted that.
I wanna say again I'm sorry that some of you were offended. A lot of it was misunderstanding and defensiveness and people taking this stuff too personally.
So we good? PM me if we're not good.
(replying to the first person I came to that didn't have any stakes in this)

wow I don't know. That's a good question.
Basically mods are volunteer types, which means, they're not punching a clock or anything, so pretty much any time they can throw the board's way I think is appreciated.
Appropriate though. Not sure. We have jobs and whatever else going on. Some mods are on more than others.
I find personally, my time is generally as far as my time and the boards, it tends to just peck at them. Like - maybe a half hour here, an hour there, 10 minutes here, 5 minutes there etc.
My days off work, at least one day a week, I try to put in a block of time. Like a few hours at least of solid board time.
But it just kind of comes as it comes. Like I just log on as needed or as I am available to log on.

I assume that is what you're referring to.
(edit: this post is nothing more than a reference to a long-banned user's tale about chopping a snake's head off with a machete that was possibly some sort of massive esoteric metaphor about being banned. Or possibly just another drunk ramble.)

Back to this, before I was so rudely interrupted by Humbizzle*, it would cost you 113 kudos for time with Luuv. Although really, the pricing scheme should be the other way around... the mods that don't post much should be pricier. Hmmmm.
* that was a joke
