i dunno i just am afraid i'll never reach the top again now that i have to work so much, it hurts a little...i guess maybe just my pride

owl # 90 ment so much to me and i worked hard for it too. now it's just a number, like my car,  like my favorite music, like my job as a DJ on the radio playing 80's music

all a thing of the past that people barley remember

How is that odd? i spent 3 years of my life here attempting to obtain that rank so people would reckognize me as a respected poster

like joining a golf club

along the way i became a member of the adult swim lifestyle and have made many friends, believe me i have no regrets i'm happy i did

but its like you work so hard to get something, then you finally get it and its taken away

Knowing how the boards work, and giving a helping hand to new people isn't rank dependent.

If people know you give the right answer, if they know the name you are using is one that is helpful, if they know you to be someone with posts worth reading, your rank won't matter a bit.

It is your reputation that is far more valuable than your rank. And your reputation is very exclusive, as it is always unique for every poster. And it is part and parcel dependent on how you go about your business here.

I dunno either way, I agree with your take on the ranks in that sure it's fun to rank, but people shouldn't obsess over it.

And I think this will be the first time I type this on these boards, but I personally think it is about due time for another rank. Hell, I haven't even made it to Legend yet and I'm saying that.

thought i never consider myself as a person to be elite i just was happy to be known as a poster who made it to the top of the ranks

who tried to contribute as much to the lifestyle of being a swimmer as possible

and who would be there for future generations as a mentor

the best as in the people who have been a part of the community for a long time and have contributed their fair share

a swimnewbie in my opinion has a ton to learn, he may be a memeber but he's not a full time member, he's not a person whos been in the community long enough to be a part of it. he has to earn his way in, just like everyone has to earn their ways and rights in the whole world

it would be unfair to say "Oh yeah he's a big part of our community" when he only has 30 posts. His rank date wouldn't matter, its the posts and what he's done to make friends and how he's tried to help build the [as] lifestyles that makes him the higher members.

I hadn't thought about ranks in a good long time.

I figure more ranks can't hurt. Especially some of the strange ones that pop up from time to time. Fits the mold of the block. And I think they did a fantastic job on this. As I understand it, this was Ceej's and Humbug's baby. But I could have misread that. No matter who did it, I love it. It brings a level of chaos were we had order. And that goes so well with this block, and site in general.

But my point is who you are, and what you bring to the party, isn't expressed at all with the post count, or anything else. It is your words. Not everyone is going to agree with the poster prowess of others, but in general, the more great stuff you contribute, the more well received you'll be. I'd hope that people pay more attention to what is going on here, rather than what's under my name.

Actually i like this. I mean we all wanted a new rank sooner or later. Its no fun to be stuck at one rank forever. I was nearing my two year anniversary of Owl, so it was nice to have a break from it. I hope it sticks around, and i cant wait to see what other ranks are out there.

Over all i think this is really good for the boards as a whole cause it gives it a fun feel to it again for all of us posters who have been around since the dark ages.

The only thing that represents my personality here is what you are reading right now.

That and maybe my icon and my sig. But those are rather minor. Mostly, here it is. How I feel about a topic, and my reaction to it is the truest sense of my personality you can get. I can be serious, I can be jovial, I can be angry. And so on. It is all those facets that make up who I am. Sure, you interpret the words, and divine your own sense of who I am, but I give you all the tools you need right here. That's the start and the end of it. The rank really adds nothing to who I am.

yeah exactly. I mean i loved being an owl and all, it was great fun, and still an awesome rank. But we were nearing nearly 200 owls, it was past time to shake things up

Order of the Owl has been the top rank for at least a couple years. Now it's not. Why is this a big deal at all? BAAAWWWWW I WORKED SO HARD TO GET THIS HORRIBLY UGLY COLOR AND THAT SO I CAN CALL MYSELF "ELITE", NOW I HAVE TO WORK HARDER, BECAUSE THE COLOR OF MY NAME UNEQUIVOCALLY REPRESENTS MY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BOARDS!!!!

Ranks have always and always will be just a fun feature, and shouldn't be taken so seriously. When it is, thats when it leads to rankism, and i think we can all agree that rankism is just stupid childish and the boards would be better off with out so much of it
