Thread guidelines:

mod edit;  if posting an interview - please replace all IM screen names with the user's Adult Swim Screen Name.

Please remember the 1 week guideline.  If you post an interview, we ask that you wait at least 1 week before posting another, just to keep the thread from filling up with too much stuff.

No real personal questions should be asked.  Only general questions about Adult Swim, the AS message board, and general tastes in politics, entertainment and media, and things of that nature.

Feel free to comment on the interview appearing in the thread.

You may also post questions for the person that was interviewed if you wish, but they are not necessarily under any obligation to answer.

If you want to be interviewed for this thread, drop me your AIM.  I already have a bunch of people lined up and/or in mind to talk to though, so it might be awhile.

There may be a possibility that the thread will be closed up sometimes if it's inactive, but will be reopened for more comments when a new interview is posted.

SwimMods may add things to this list as they wish.

i think it may just be users asking users... if it is it may be better for babbling since it is just about general life.

anyway that was a great interview, good work actually.

Nope.  It goes in .Com because the interviews are generally about the site, the message board, and all interviews are with AdultSwim.Com users.  Granted, it'd probably get seen by more people in Babbling.  But who knows, maybe it will get more people checking out .Com and Culture or something.

and thank you.  I think just about everybody who posted in the thread so far is on my interview hit list actually.

heh, i actually have an excuse for my earliear post [the one about babbling] see you didn't really specify what you were going to do until you did it... so i was just at the loss that these interviews would just like the normal interviews "whats your favorite color" and such like that... see i was typing that while your interview was being made so i didn't notice :smileywink: thats why i edited it to "good post actually".

the SwimMod interviews are being posted in bits in the "Affiliates" thread that Goz made in the Culture folder.

Everybody you mentioned are all names that are on my list of people I want to talk to.

As far as the admins go, they're pretty busy, and these interviews can go pretty long depending upon the distraction level.  So there probably wouldn't be time to sit down with them.

But all the mods are done.

Adult Swim: the User Interviews (Starryjelly)

Reply to Sarteck - Message ID#: 4999973

What were your early impressions of the Adult Swim website and message boards?

starryjelly: Hm... to be honest, when I first came onto this site and the boards, it was my first time having the internet at home. I usually had to go to the library or a friends comptuer to use the internet because my family couldn't afford a connection at the time. So... I was really psyched about this site and the boards because I have never been in one before. I was especially excited since there were people on the boards who had opinions like mine about the animation shows on [as], so I was really glad to have found this site and to be a part of the boards. 'Twas really kewl. :-P. I was also nervous, I never knew something like this existed.

why nervous?

starryjelly: Why? Because... it was my first time being on a board. With people who I shared opinions with. I actually never met many people like this around my area, so I was a bit nervous and shy my first time. But... it grew out of me when I saw how much fun you can have on the boards. Too much fun mignt get you banned though. ;-)

How did you discover the site?

starryjelly: Hehe... I was an obsessed InuYasha fan at the time. I got upset when the new episodes in the Fall went by quickly. So I tried to figure out how I could find more information about the show and when the new episodes were to air.  I even wrote a letter to VIZ. :-D  Finally, I decided to use my friend's computer for research, though I didn't want to, because I knew that the web had rumors floating about.  Even still... I didn't know [as] had a website until they mentioned it on the television, so I decided to check it out for information on InuYasha. I found the information I needed, but I had to register on the boards (they were the Prospero boards at the time).

Do you miss Prospero at all?

starryjelly: Yeah, a little. I liked the simple parts to the Prospero boards: no ranks, no colors, etc., though I enjoy having my own icon. :-P But this new stuff has helped keep the boards in better shape.

plus now we can sit around like we're 90 years old going "yep I remember the good ol' days with Prospero. course times were simpler back then."

starryjelly: Haha... yeah, but I don't like to do that really. I like to go with the flow.

What folders do you find yourself flowing towards then? Where do you spend most of your time as a poster on the ASMB?

starryjelly: I'm a big Action Discussion member. I'm there like 65% of the time I spend on the boards. Then there's Babbling, I glance through that folder; if I find anything interesting in there I'll post. And than I used to spend a lot of time in the [as].com folder, but I grew out of it when more helpers came about. I still help of course, but only every chance I get... and there are not that many chances since Maenos began to take over the boards. ;-) But yeah, I glance through Rants and Incoherent Babbling as well, though I don't post much around there.

You used to be Maenos.

starryjelly: Haha! Yeah, we had our battles to see who can help who the fastest. We usually wind up posting in the same thread at the same minute, but either one of us used to be there a second faster.

There's always one or two people in the help threads that are uncannily helpful and always seem to be around.

starryjelly: You know... I haven't been in the Help thread for a while... okay better yet, I haven't been in there for weeks/months/etc. I'm aware there are many helpers in there and in the [as].com folder; I'd like to congratulate them for all of their helping, they are doing a great job. ;-) I'm usually doing a lot of helping in the Action Discussion folder, since I spend much of my time there.

Yeah there's a whole little group of folks down there too that are really great. Actually quite a lot of folks in the Action folder that are really great

starryjelly: OH yeah! Definitely... I try to keep things neat around there most of the time since the Action Discussion folder is known to be... uh... what's the word I'm looking for... disorganized, boring, full of InuYasha-fanatics, etc., but it's a fun place to hang out at if you like the Action shows of [as]. You just have to try and make the best of it.

What specifically draws you to a thread? What makes a good thread in your estimation?

starryjelly: Hm... I don't know. I guess if it's something that I like or interests me such as music, astrology, bizarre topics, InuYasha and other animes, and stuff like that. I've seen a lot of repeated threads lately, so I haven't been posting much. So until something new comes along I'm going to remain silent and just glance through the boards and continue helping.

To answer your second question, I really don't know. -_- I'm going to be a **bleep**-up and say that a good thread is a thread that stays on topic and follows the rules of the board. My taste is always changing so I can't say that a good thread is like "this" or "that" :-\

What are your favorite Adult Swim shows? Inuyasha obviously.

starryjelly: Of course, but I'm also a fan of Futurama, Family Guy, Furi Kuri, and Lupin the III. I also enjoy Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman, Cowboy Bebop, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the Oblongs and Wolf's Rain. There are a few others, but I think I should keep the list short.

What new show are you looking forward to the most?

starryjelly: I'm not really looking forward to the new shows. I know I won't have time to watch tv in the fall, But I do really want to see the new episodes of Family Guy and the first InuYasha movie. I will watch Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Fullmetal Alchemist when they air.

What would be your ideal Adult Swim Avatar/Icon?

starryjelly: Hm... I'm not sure. I love my Kanna, Kikyo and Fujiko icons... I guess I will say it's Kanna. However, I do want an icon of Cheza with slightly smiling from Wolf's Rain, and Death from Family Guy, and also there was this one episode of Family Guy where Peter and Lois were at the movie theaters and there was a smoking spider sitting next to them talking and spoiling the movie. Peter said he's going to kick his **bleep**! I want an icon of that spider. :-D ... *Cheza slightly smiling from...

hmm

starryjelly: :-P

Any ideas or suggestions for improving the block or the boards?

starryjelly: Hm... for the block, I have no idea, but I do wish [as] would get rid of the Comedy shows on the Saturday night line-up. For the boards... I do wish that we are able to change the color of our screen names like I once suggested to Torrent, but I think he said that the boards are not able to do that. :-(

What are your impressions of the AS mods?

starryjelly: They are great people! I'm glad they volunteer to keep the boards safe from mean people and to assist others like the helpers do. Nonetheless, they are regular members of the boards, except now they get bashed by haters because they are the authority. They know they have support though :-P

If you got a B&W bumper card on the air, what would it say?

starryjelly: Hm... I'm not sure. I know that [as] would give me a sarcastic response like they do to many others. I did get a few posts on the air once from the party thread that went on when there were performers on the webcam. That was fun. :-) I think they might say "You smell". but it also depends what I'm saying :-\

So the bumps intimidate you kinda?

starryjelly: No. :-P

What non-AS type shows do you watch? What are some of your all time favorite shows?

starryjelly: Animation, animation, animation!! Ever since I was a little girl, I always tuned in for cartoons. But if I'm not watching that, I will be watching the news or a movie on tv. I also watched other shows, but they're old. Some of my all time favorite shows are Sailor Moon (yes, Sailor Moon), the PowerPuff Girls, Saved by the Bell, Family Matter, Salute Your Shorts and old Looney Tunes, Merry Melody and Tex Avery cartoons.

so you're just a Cartoon Network girl at heart basically.

starryjelly: Yup yup yup :-D

What about movies? What kinds of movies do you watch?

starryjelly: Movies, huh? Well, I'm a softy so I go for romantic movies. I also like to laugh, so there's comedy. I'm not much of a movie person though. OH! I also forgot to add Sex and the City to the shows list. :-D Oh and a movie with a nice story, too.

girly movies

starryjelly: I am a girl after all. :-D I watch action movies, too, but only if it has a story and some romance.

Any parting words for your fellow AS.Com users?

starryjelly: Let's see... I hope you all do well in life. May you continue reaching for whatever goal you desire but don't forget about [adult swim] and us great board members that welcome you with open arms. (So what if this is corny, you want to fight about it? :-D)

the violence really sells it!

starryjelly: hehe, indeed. :-P I got that line from Family Guy, too

I won't tell. Anyhow - thanks for the time!.

starryjelly: Kewl! Thank you for this interview.
