Yeah, I think you said it best, 55.

Paying homage to ideas and plagiarism are not the same. Venture Bros may have gotten it's inspiration from Johnny Quest and Scooby Doo, but thats totally different from taking the same exact story, props and characters from those shows and claiming to have created them.

How would you like a Rusty Venture?
There are 5 original seasons of Futurama, not 4.

Yes, exactly that.

Venture Bros. makes no attempt to hide the fact that it's drawing from other shows, and it still manages to be immensely creative. Titan Maximum is doing the same thing, except not on as epic a scale. :smileyhappy:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he's arguing more about the Robot Chicken end of the spectrum. Which, if that is the case, doesn't change the fact that it's only plagiarism if they claim the idea and/or original concept to be solely theirs.

Yeah, by using action figures that clearly depict the joke's origional source they're basically admiting they were at least partially drawing their humor from said source and thus can't be heald accountable for plagiarism if they copy one of their lines exactly or something. It's still parody given RC's style of putting known characters in wierd situations and satirizing them based on said situations. If they need to toss out a well known line to help remember what movie X actor was in or whatever then so be it.

Not as epic is right. . .

The show thusfar really seems like a missed opportunity to me. So far, the Voltron-inspired sketches in Robot Chicken are far more entertaining than Titan Maximum, which just seems all kinds of backwards from what I expected out of the series.

Adding my thoughts from another thread:

Aqua Teens was funny... but I don't see how it is more highbrow than Titan Maximum.  It's a lot of stupid-funny humor.  But there is nothing wrong with that.  You don't have to be stupid to like stupid humor.  I'm pretty smart I enjoy some of the most base lowbrow humor at times.

Granted, quite a bit of it is immature on Titan Maximum, but there's a lot of in-jokes too that anime/mecha fans would get.  It's also making the point of how things would realistically transpire if you put a bunch of teenagers or 20-something year olds as our first line of defense, and in such a prominent position.  The result, a total train wreck?  The kind we can't just look away from, and somehow, someway, they manage to win the day (so far).  They pointed out that this a comment on a lot of 80s cartoons, and also mech anime, etc... and a lot of things.

I still don't get why people are saying blah blah poop jokes fart jokes infantile humor when there has been none of either of those jokes, and for all the 'low-brow' stuff there is a lot of clever jokes thrown in as well.

I can see how people would tear down this show as being juvenile... but then the other shows they mention aren't really that sophisticated by comparison.  I don't see how someone could love Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021,  Harvey Birdman (OFTEN relied on random zany events and lowbrow humor, but ingenious parodies other jokes as well, much like Titan Maximum, if less obvious sometimes in TM's case), but hate Titan Maximum and Robot Chicken.

They seem to be things that would, and in fact, do go well together, in my opinion.  Perhaps people are just jealous and bitter over these newer shows, and Fox shows success, I don't get it.

I think more of the problem is that people feel the need to define how and why they like or dislike a show and then want to judge other shows based on that factor.

If you like something, you like it. If you don't, you don't. I absolutely love Harvey and Robot Chicken, I haven't cared for Titan Maximum, and I can't stand Aqua Teen, Space Ghost, or Sealab. That's really all that needs to be said, there's no absolute definition that applies to everyone on why they do or don't like something.

On that note, I consider Robot Chicken, Harvey, and Sealab the only ones on that list that aren't "low brow".

I wasn't really doing all that, though.  Granted, it's probably pretty pointless to discuss the merits of a show with someone who dislikes it, attempting to defend it, and vise versa because neither mind will likely be changed.  I mean, it is one thing if someone won't even give something a chance and you convince them to check it out, but if they don't like it, you likely aren't going to "convince them of its greatness", so to speak.

So, that being said, we should probably just forget about that and discuss the show with people whom like it.  This debate is great and all, and one shouldn't shut someone out because of difference of opinion, but the conversation is pretty much pointless at this point, I've figured, after thinking about this all, and what you said.

That's probably why most people who don't like a show don't go into a board and complain because there isn't a whole lot of a point.  You could do it to vent, I guess, but you aren't really going to make any waves.  I suppose I was guilty of this to some extent with Code Geass, but I didn't post in every other thread, and go on about it for months.  I vented, said my piece, got it off my chest, and that was that.  I pretty much made my point, and like I said... continuing wouldn't really change anything.  But for some reason, people seem to be in dogged pursuit of bringing down certain shows, or at least annoying its fans.

Nothing wrong with voicing a difference of opinion, but you trying to convince me of it's awfulness is about as worthwhile as me trying to tell you how great it is.

Problem, is people who seem to be hooked on one show, never tends to respect another, well the same can be said for anime also, but then I never go near as to trying to reason with them I guess, but in the end get flammed at.
Since this is not much of a sig, I will say this, to anyone who wants to hate Toonami's Return or anything related to it without having to troll members of other message boards visiting the ASMB as well as the member here,

I suppose we'll just agree to disagree. I must admit, the debate was fun! And you were a formidable opponent (Xelrog). Thanks for keeping it civil. I can't tell you how many times I disagree with someone and their first inclination is to completely lose their mind. I guess such is the curse of independent thinkers as ourselves. I will never like RC or TM, but if intelligent folks such as yourself like it, I can't really continue to rage on it. Truth be told, my issue is mostly with [AS] as a whole. It just isnt what it used to be. If shows like Assy McGee keep getting greenlit, I think I am prepared to turn my back on it all together. I just can't stand the drek much longer.Though The Office was a great move on their part...

My favorites:

*Mighty Boosh

*Venture Bros

*Home Movies

I wish they would approach Christian Jacobs, lead singer of the Aquabats! (best ska band ever!) and creator of Yo Gabba Gabba to create a show that caters more to adult tastes. The man is a genius and I bet that show would be golden!

I agree with you in that I think [as] has deteriorated (along with the rest of television, if you ask me) over the years, but there are any number of threads on that topic... most of them ending in flame wars.

I'm afraid that, despite being surrounded by it, I'm not particularly well-versed in western culture. I do enjoy the Venture Bros. - used to love it before The Monarch turned into a soap opera - but not to the same degree I do anime, sadly.

Wow so true I gave this show a chance since it reminds me of Voltron (a total mockery of it) back in the Toonami beginning days and liked it.
