I can't sleep, so, I'm watching TM for about the dozenth time, and, I've made up my mind:

While Rachael Leigh Cook has yet to make a movie bad enough that I won't see it, I just don't buy her Jodie Yanarella. And, I think the show would be better if Jodie were recast.

I like Jodi's voice. It's part of what makes me like Jodi.

Aurally, Jodie (Ms. Cook?) doesn't emote well. Worse, Jodie seems a different character from scene to scene as her voice actor seems to struggle to affect something appropriate. Thus, when Jodie opens her mouth, the fantasy is broken. Actually, as often as not I cringe a little.

I can think of better than half a dozen actresses who can do spunky girl-next-door. I don't know that any of them would do it, and, maybe that's the problem. Some have done TV, some haven't.

Consider, among other great choices: Amy Adams,  Kirsten Dunst, Amy Poehler, Ginny Ryerson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Hmm I haven't really had any complaints as far as her voice.  But, I guess it just goes to show people will complain about anything these days.

Julie, I'm not disputing that she is *a* girl next door... I am disputing the "spunky" part.

I don't know Rachael personally, but, if I am to judge by her movies, she is the weird, hot, damaged girl next door that wants a guy to tell her she's beautiful, and that's the one thing she's not... She's smart, insightful, interesting and she's as cute as a button, which is totally hot and sexy. But, she isn't beautiful, and she seems to suffer because of it.

...It struck me funny, that line about how Jodie *hates* cute, because I don't think that Jodie would, but, I got the feeling her voice actor does

I haven't seen (or heard) anything else that Rachael has done so I'm able to listen to it from an impartial viewpoint.

Rachael makes an excellent Jodie IMO.  She gives a very dynamic performance as the scenes call for it and demonstrates a wide range of emotional inflection; from a soft spoken playful "you wanna know what I wish for?" to a deep indignant malicious "tell them in hell!".

Excellent work Rachael, keep it up!

It's just not normal.

Rachael is doing brilliant!
I couldn't imagine any other female (well, other than myself) doing a better job.

The only bug up my ass about Jodi's voice is the fact that Ms. Cook does not keep it at a constant level I mean in each of the nine episodes Jodi's voice fluctuates sometimes it sounds normal other times it sounds higher then it should then it is almost deep and gravely i.e. when Jodi says Am I the only professional in this entire fricking robot it doesn't sound the way Jodi is suppose to sound at all whereas when Eden Espinosa does Sasha it's always the same never any variation in the tones or pitch of her voice it always sounds like Sasha in each episode same goes with the other actors! Seth Green's Gibbs, Dan Milano's Willie and Breckin Meyer as Palmer. The producers may want to try to get Rachael Leigh Cook to work on her voice-over skills otherwise dump her from the show and get a professional voice-over artist who can do it right.
