Titan Maximum: What hell hath ye wrought?

Everyone's pretty excited about this Titan Maximum thing right? If you've been watching the bumps, you probably already know what it is. However, if you stop watching [as] after Family Guy is over or something, here's the skinny on this show. It's a show made by the crew of Robot Chicken, and the concept is a mecha anime parody. Anyone's who's ever watched Robot Chicken ever can do the math.

Personally, I see chances of not only mecha anime parody, but parody of anime as a whole. The staff seems to think that's hilarious all of a sudden. Parodying Inuyasha like it was still current? Two tentacle hentai jokes in a row? I know this is Robot Chicken's M.O., but I have to ask again, WHY??? Seth Green, maybe, Senreich, maybe. But Tom Root? Don't anime parodies seem a little dated to anyone on the crew? Pointing out the eccentricities of anime got old years ago. Where in the Robot Chicken molecular composition does it mention any potential for beating this dead and unfunny horse to death? Is anyone still laughing at this? I mean for the intended effect. The punchline they're trying to deliver - is it still funny to anyone?

I have the feeling that this parody is a taste of things to come.

From what I can tell, [AS] ratings have been fairly mediocre. PHF aired, and was cancelled back when anime started to decline. Perhaps this is an attempt to get comedy fans interested in anime, and thus attract some of their old rabid fanbase.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. People think that parody exists to insult, and defile a form of media, but I believe it is more of a tribute.

Of course... I could be wrong.

No no, I ,too, think parodies are tributes to what you love. Thats why I always wanted Family Guy to do a Pokemon cutaway. That would be so boss.

It depends on the punchline. I have yet to see a "tribute" parody from anyone on the Robot Chicken staff as far as any anime goes. The Gatchaman sketch was far from flattering.

What's more, they don't need to get comedy fans interested in anime. Is this supposed to present anime in some "more appealing" light, or from some different perspective or something? Comedy fans should like or hate anime for what they see of it now.

Maybe this Titan Maximum isnt a parody show. Maybe it's just a homage to an already existing idea from long ago (Like how Venture Brothers is a homage to Johnny Quest and Scooby Doo).

Venture Bros. is a nice nod to Johnny Quest, but they aren't really that amicable with Scooby Doo. At least not enough so that if Titan Maximum were to take a page from them and treat mecha anime the way Venture Bros. treats Scooby Doo (the few times it shows up), anime fans would cry foul.

The Johnny Quest treatment is nice enough though. Maybe something like Megas XLR, something people can notice and just brush off, maybe watch it once in a while if something interesting is going on. But the delivery of the concept in that bump doesn't bode well for me. IMO, it sounds like they're making a formup mecha anime parody that parodies the character style.

Often enough, parody makes people comfortable with a convention they were not squeamish with before.

Most who hate anime do it for prejudice, and ignorance above all else. It could poke fun at the prejudices, and make people realize that watching anime will not cause you to contract a fat, hairy, basement dweller disease.

I'm a VB fan and I don't know what you're talking about. There has only been one episode that parodies "Scooby Doo" and it doesn't do it any worse than VB parodies Jonny Quest. Seriously, did you see Action Jonny?

Anyway, if anime fans "cry foul," then they have more delicate constitutions than a four year old girl because a parody is a parody is a parody and it's supposed to make you laugh and enjoy yourself. Go look it up in the dictionary if you don't believe me.

I don't like the sound of it just from the bumps and I'm sure that I'm not the only anime fan thinking that.

All in all I believe the anime fans will think this, "Well just more garbage from [as] making fun of anime in general."

Who am I kidding the anime fans don't watch [as] and haven't for the past three years now almost. Saturdays are the only days some watch.

I'll give it a chance, but....yeah I just don't like the sound of it at all.

With all that [as] does poking at anime fans do we really need another Perfect Hair Forever type skit comedy making fun of the fans? Come on [as] has been making fun of the anime fan demographic since 2003 every sunday night.

The bump last night made it seem to me like it was spoofing the whole 'teens get a giant robot' show than anime as a whole. I don't know why anyone would get all butt-hurt about that, unless they beat it to Gundam.

Nobody is "butt-hurt" as you geniuses of the internet like to say.

I and a lot more of anime fans are tired of the way [as] treats anime and anime fans as a whole that's all.

You think six years of bashing a fanbase every Sunday night would be enough, but I digress.

Sounds like Titan Maximum will have the problem Perfect Hair Forever had if you ask me. Too comedy for the anime fans too anime for the comedy fans. Low ratings will be it's doom more than likely.

Maybe it is, because they'll be playing the teens in the robot saga.

I loved PHF because I've seen anime and I know what they were making fun of yet I don't take it so seriously that it's an affront to me. Let the show air and let the ratings speak for themselves instead of bashing the show prematurely. Really, why are you so angry if you haven't even seen the show? Why are you so anal about someone making fun of a cartoon? Please, chill out as your ranting is making you look like another rabid, angry otaku without a cause.

I'm liking where this is going. It might be weird to see a robot chickenish show that actually has a plot though.

I'm steadily losing interest in this show, and lowering my expectations, but I still intend to watch it at least once. Give it a fair chance, ya know? I hope everyone else does the same.

Besides, it's gotta be somewhat good, at least, if they greenlit it without testing viewer response, but that's probably just because of the success of Robot Chicken.

Haha, do they like each other? Because there was that one sketch on Robot Chicken where Seth Green and Matt Senreich totally killed Mike Lazzo.
