Spoiler***********Spoiler*************************

Okay, the civilization on Gunsmoke is based off of western values. So, if you use that as your basis, Vash and Knives first names would be Vash and Knives. If you continue with the western civilization theory, that would make there last names whatever their Father's last name was....which we don't know. If they are part plant and part human then at some point they were either genetically engineered by the humans, the plants, both, are the product of imaculate consception within a plant bulb(kinda goes with the religious theme) or at some point, the reproductive genetic material of a Plant and a Human were mixed together either, artificially or naturally and Vash and Knives became the result of that union.

If the mother or father is a plant....they may have no last name at all. Also, if the father is a plant and the mother is human...they may have too different last names( one in plant and one in english).
Or if they were a result of immaculate conception within a bulb...maybe there names would be Vash and Knives Plant.

My personal opinion is that Rem is their real mother and that their father was a plant. Wether that happened as a result of an experiment by the engineers or through over exposure to the plants or........whatever.......I think Rem lied about exactly were they came from to protect them from the other humans and to explain where two babies with extraoridinary powers came from all of the sudden. So I think there real last name, if their father isn't human, is Sevarem.

This is my theory. Wolfwood was supposedly working under orders from Knives, as mentioned later in Episode 23, Paradise. Knives wanted Vash to be alive, so when the bandits saw Wolfwood traveling with him, maybe they knew some kind of connection between it all...? I don't know. It's just a theory. <.<

***SPOILER***
If you watch the second episode *Out of Time* Legato is very much involved in it, so in Knives, they are watching it through the eyes of Lenoff so yeah they had a lot to do with it. If Vash knew it was a farce, why did he get involved? I can understand in Flying Ship and Out of Time. The thing is, if Vash would have seen that killing Legato was inevitable he could have taken him out sooner and more lives could have been saved. I do not think the GHG would have attacked without a leader. I do not condone the killing of people but for some people, it is the only solution.

**Sorry for the double post***
I agree with that, Lenoff points out that *he is traveling with a minister clad in black, i suspect this minister...* Legato cuts him off. I guess they realize that as long as he is with Wolfwood, Wolfwood will protect him, and I think Wolfwood's skills are up there with Vash's and together they are a very deadly team.
Oh BTW i think i surpassed obsessed, i can now do quotes on demand (:

"The very last still frame of the credits....Is that Vash smiling or is it Knives? I had trouble telling since Vash isn't wearing his standard stuff and I only saw it for like a second. Thanks." - It's Vash smiling, look at the left eye, you see his trademark beauty mark below it.

I read this earlier, but didn't read all the posts since I last checked... so...

Millions is just a name Knives affixed to himself. Vash doesn't have it, because it isn't their birth name. Rem picked their birth names, Knives and Vash. If they were to really have last names, or surnames for the Japanese, it would be Saverem, after Rem's name. (I.E. Saverem Vash and Saverem Knives).

Good questions.

I don't think Vash really does have a last name. He's like one of those people who only have one name like Cher, Fabio or Aristotle. Also, no, Wolfwood is not stupid. XP

The "lost technology" I think refers to the plants, which provide energy for the humans. I don't even think the people who discovered/invented the plants know what they really are. It's kind of like cold fusion I think. So due to the "Great Fall", most of it was destroyed or literally lost and only a few people can somewhat comprehend it.

Anyway, those are just my untested theories.

Ahhh more like me YAY!!! (:

Vash does have a real name, he refused to tell Wolfwood so that *he wouldnt take it to the grave* Yeah that was paradise. What is his real name? No one knows, another mystery in Trigun. Maybe it will be explained later in the magna, isnt Maxium still going on in Japan?

I don't know about Maximum still going on, but I never fully understood the whole name thing, I mean, Rem named him Vash, but did was he born knowing his true name or something? Because otherwise he'd just be Vash, right? *confused himself*

*MORE SPOILORS*DAM IT*MORE SPOILERS

i doubt that Rem is their biological mother. if she were why would she have to save them from the crew if they knew they were hers. Plus, in a conversation with the captin, Joey. he says,"im no good at this. ive never been a father" Rem answers,"that goes doubly for me" saying shes never been a mother. but she being a mother to them, an adoptive mother.

i do beleive she knows what they are though. in "Under a sky so bluw" Vash finds records of a realtive of Rems the suvived the crash. at the bottom of this mans profile, it says hes a plant bio-engenier, or somthing to that effect. which leads me to beleive that Rem may also have been this and had a hand in creating the plants themselves. Which would then make her Vash and Knives creator.

now, what does all this lead up to. the Rem was Vash and Knives mother. so they would be Vash and Knives Saverem. whew!!

*SPOILERS*AGAIN*SPOILERS

are you refering to "Goodbye for now" when the pig-guy was going to shoot Vash but then sees Nick and changes his mind?? if so, i really dont think they knew each other. the ugly bandit wasnt a GHG and i doubt many people knew of them outside of Legato and them selves till they made the scene in the anime. i think that it was just from the way Nick looked at him, he know he was a killer and shooting Vash would get him killed on the spot. Wolfy's probly rather intimadating ill bet.

dude, thats just gross. why in the world woulld Vash be romanticly in love with Rem?? he was 1 when she died for goodness sake, i couldnt know anything about those types of feelings yet. also, if he loved Rem in a romantic way and idolized her and her values as much as he does, he would not be chasing tail through out the series.

Rem was there unoffically adopted mother, adn when you adopt a child you would customarly give them your last name. so thers would be....*drum roll*.... Saverem!! and whats wrong with that??

Hey Milly :smileyhappy:
That remark you make about him chasing tail through the series is true BUT... have you ever noticed that he doesn't actually hook-up with anyone. He even had some hookers provided for him one night, and he pretended to be passed out drunk. I'm sure he could have persuaded Meryl to be intimate if he had wanted to. (I would have seen that coming instead of Milly and Wolfwood. Now that floored me.) Anyway, this may be out in left-field, but have you ever suspected that Vash might be a virgin? He was alone in the desert with Knives for years. Later on he was trying to keep others safe by being a loner. He also doesn't seem like the type to go for one night stands.

I think Vash, having the life of a tree, could stave off his most basic desires, I.E. the need to procreate.

StnGnMilly - "i never thought she did. i always thought they fell out by accident somhow and she stopped the other crew memeber from killing them." - They were intentionally spawned to be ambassadors, a link between the plants and humans, a hybrid.

They weren't, in fact, the first plant/human mix to be spawned, there was a girl who came out before, and they experimented on her, which led to her demise. This tid-bit of knowledge is what made Knives go crazy in the manga (or at least the largest contributing factor).

This is why Rem stepped in to save the boys, and stop the experiments to continue.

Vash never saw Rem as anything but a guide through the wilds, someone to lend an ear to, and nothing really romantically involved.

Yeah he was 1 year old, but look how much he'd grown in that time period. Anyway, in the episode Rem Saverem
Vash is quoted saying "You have me... I wont leave you alone. I promise because I love you!"

Now I'm not saying Vash fully understands those feelings. I felt romanticly toward people when I was a young child, though I didn't fully understand all that entailed. Just as little children ask grown-ups to marry them. Kids can feel that kind of love, though they don't fully understand it.

Rem was their adoptive mother in a way, but also much like, say, a baby-sitter. It is very common for children to become enamoured with a baby-sitter. :smileyhappy:

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with their last name being Saverem. I just (personal opinion) don't think it is, or if Vash claims that name, I dont think it would be anything more than just a way for him to remember her or honor her spirit.

I know Knives wouldnt take Saverem and there is a scene in Rem Saverem where she is protecting the new infants once they come out of the pod when the others are trying to kill them. Vash might of, but i think he would have showed it off as a memorial to her, no i think their names are something else. Maybe the Millions Knives added is to replace something, like a human name, and so is The Stampede because in Murder Machine Vash does say * I hate it when you call me by my full name* Then again, maybe if Vash is a loner, The Stampede is a perfect fit because if everyone is scared of you then they tend to leave you alone. I mean who would be afraid of Vash, not that scary but add The Stampede and people run. I mean think about it, the only people NOT afraid of Vash are the evil guys, Wolfwood, people who have no idea who he is *think back to the first episodes* and Milly and Merly *they are not afraid of him because they didnt know who he was either but kept on bumping into him in the begining too* and they were afraid everytime some idiot pretended to be Vash or they thought someone else was Vash *Once again those important first episodes* Even in Goodbye for Now, once the townspeople realized that Eriks was Vash, even though he was a member of their community as soon as they found out they were talking about getting rid of him. It is all in a name.

Hey Fire!:smileyvery-happy:
yes, this is true. he also doesnt have a very good aproach either("you remind me of my poor, dead girfriend"?what?). whats Vash's motto. come on, everybody now! LOVE&PEACE! meaning love is very important to him. the "working girls" would have given him one night of pleasure, but it wouldnt be love. plus ill bet the scars are a contributing factor at this point in the story. and as far as the girls he asks out. well, theres no harm in asking, even if you are shot down 10, 20, 357 time in a row. but you never know from whence ones mayfly of love will flitter from.
